Captain's Log 04 - It's a Rock Party

[ Hello, fellow Drifters. Today you shall find one Captain Kirk, currently of the Tourist, smiling into the camera - perhaps a bit to delighted for everyone's comfort, so if you know what's good for you turn off the broadcast now. Or stick around. It's really 50/50 with him some days. He clears his throat, for a moment attempting to look serious outside his obvious delight. ]

So, first things first, some house keeping -

For those who don't know, I'm James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Tourist, newly minted a few weeks ago. Please just call me Jim or Kirk, though. Any problems with the Tourist or her crew can be directed to me, or if I am not available you can relay a message to my first mate - Fenris.

[ Let that sink in everyone and then think real hard about if you want to go that route ever. ]

Now, with that out of the way...

[ His face resumes its delight. ]

Since we're all sharing what little treasures we've been getting from the planet we're all on, I thought I would join in the fun.

[ He messes with something off camera, and everyone will be treated to the dulcet tones if the The Beastie Boys. Kirk is bobbing his head and every now and then either strumming an air guitar or beating on air drums.

The song ends and his grin is so very pleased with itself. ]

_{[ He made an incline of his head meant to simulate a bow. He can't bow while he runs, Natasha, he's not that good. ]}

[That gets half a laugh out of her and she'll pull up to a stop in the sand.]

Maybe we'll start with letting you catch your breath.

_{[ He took a step ahead before realizing she had stopped, shifting back and panting, hands on his hips, glad for the chance to catch his breath. ]}

Thank you, you are far to kind. For a minute I was worried I would make a horrible conversation partner.

It's usually better when you can breathe.

_{[ He started walking again, able to catch his breath at the same time without to much trouble. ]}

So, did you have a place in mind for that drink?

Not in mind. I'm just seizing the opportunity here.

Well, I like a woman who takes the initiative. Very alluring.

Plus it takes the pressure off me having to choose.

So what you're saying is I should take the lead.

[She returns his expression, playful.]

I think I can do that. We might just end up with whatever looks good that way, though.

That's fine by me. Like I said, lady's choice.

[Natasha inclines her head, accepting this responsibility.

Luckily, they don't have to go far before they come across a small bar beach side. The locals know where their acorns come from.]

This looks good enough to me.

_{[ They sure do, and Kirk has to appreciate excellent business acumen. ]}

If it's good enough for the lady, it's good enough for me.

_{[ He followed her up to the bar, taking a seat with a happy sigh. ]}

So, what's your poison?

We're at the beach. Whatever has an umbrella in it.

[She's less pleased than he is, but she's here, and she can use a drink and some company.

She's still getting used to the idea of being here rather than back home, where she needs to be.]

Think they have that?

Or whatever passes for one here. Not sure they have the concept excatly - but I'm sure we can find something to decorate it.

Heh, I didn't think something like not having umbrellas would be enough to thwart you.

I can accept it as long as the umbrella is there in spirit.

[She signals the bartender for two, satisfied that whatever they get wll be good enough.]

So you seem to be enjoying your time on the planet.

It's nice to be someplace with real sunshine and air to breath. That and it's a new world to explore. Not quite the way I'm used to, but still. Who wouldn't be enjoying an opportunity like this?

[Natasha shrugs, surrendering the point.]

I guess I'll appreciate it more after being cooped up on a space ship for longer. For now, it's just where they dumped us. Could be worse. It's definitely not Siberia. But it's still hard to really enjoy it.

Compared to the last planet? It's easy for me. I like these sorts - where you can just enjoy yourself and explore. The last one... well the last one was no picnic, let's put it that way.

For a little bit we get to pretend we're actually free instead on very long, very loose leashes. I know it's just a way to placate us, probably, but - there's nothing wrong with indulging, just a little, is there?

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. A comfortable prison is still a prison, though.

Hard to forget that.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy it...

[Just makes it hard to relax entirely.]

The bars are invisible and wide, but they're there all the same.

_{[ He took his drink when it came and sipped, making a soft sound. ]}

I try not to think of it like that. Don't get me wrong - I know we're captives. But I always tell myself it's finding the way home, not an "escape".

[The drinks have good timing. This just got real.]

Makes sense. Especially since just escaping would probably mean being stranded on one of these planets.

Getting home has to be the end game.

[That's part of what makes this so very effective as a prison.]

More likely stranded out in space with only the barest hope of a distress signal being heard.

For some people, anyways.

In between worlds doesn't seem like the best place to plan an escape. At least somewhere like this there's a population to blend in with.

[Not that it makes a huge difference, since neither is particularly actionable, at least not based on what she's seen so far.]
