Captain's Log 04 - It's a Rock Party
Who: Jim Kirk + You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Yes - either on the Tourist or the Planet (this post will be functioning as a semi-overflow)
When: Nowish
[ Hello, fellow Drifters. Today you shall find one Captain Kirk, currently of the Tourist, smiling into the camera - perhaps a bit to delighted for everyone's comfort, so if you know what's good for you turn off the broadcast now. Or stick around. It's really 50/50 with him some days. He clears his throat, for a moment attempting to look serious outside his obvious delight. ]
So, first things first, some house keeping -
For those who don't know, I'm James Tiberius Kirk, Captain of the Tourist, newly minted a few weeks ago. Please just call me Jim or Kirk, though. Any problems with the Tourist or her crew can be directed to me, or if I am not available you can relay a message to my first mate - Fenris.
[ Let that sink in everyone and then think real hard about if you want to go that route ever. ]
Now, with that out of the way...
[ His face resumes its delight. ]
Since we're all sharing what little treasures we've been getting from the planet we're all on, I thought I would join in the fun.
[ He messes with something off camera, and everyone will be treated to the dulcet tones if the The Beastie Boys. Kirk is bobbing his head and every now and then either strumming an air guitar or beating on air drums.
The song ends and his grin is so very pleased with itself. ]
Words to live by, my fellow Drifters. Words to live by.
[ ooc: Inside this post will be a section for continuations of planet mingle threads if we have not already started one somewhere else! Feel free to add one here if I miss yours or if you would like to start one since I'll also be putting up the original starters from the mingle. ]

"The Klingon - a humanoid species from another section of space. The area they control is called the Klingon Empire, and they are highly militaristic and aggressive. They place high value on their version of an honor system," he explained, giving the thirty-second lesson on them. "Earth spent several decades fighting them to keep them from conquering Earth."

"It's a strange thing. I respect certain aspects of their culture - it takes a strong people to adhere to and prosper under the strict conditions their culture imposes. But I definitely don't agree with their methods of conquering and enslavement," he shook his head, following Tyrion. "Luckily we don't deal with them all that often - just a few disputes here and there."

He gave a half-shrug, because he could offer no real explanation. He did not think that way, and he never planned too.
"But yes, I have to agree. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

"Honor, all that. Being better than my ancestors."

"Frankly you sound like you're doing half a better job than they were, so..." Another piece moved, still comfortable with the current board.

One corner of his mouth twisted, "I live, I learn. I drink wine. That is what I do.." He rubbed his beard once more, before shifting another piece.

He gave him a sad, tired little smile. "Oh, believe me Tyrion, I have."
He didn't elaborate though, pushing another piece forward, the movement quite aggressive in terms of chess.
"Might need some of your wine now though."

"Not really. I tried the revenge route. It just didn't turn out quite so good," he waggled his hand, moving another piece, keeping up the aggressive tactic. "I just decided I wasn't going to give them more thought and energy than they deserved, afterwards."

The same aggressive manuevering, his movements confident and precise, decisions coming quickly.
"I don't know if I call it forgiving. I don't think I can forgive Nero, Khan, or Marcus for the things they did. I just decided I wouldn't let them determine the path of my life," he said, his brows turning in slightly at the thought. "It takes a much better man than me to forgive them. I'm not nearly so good as that."
