Politics. Certain alliances must be maintained and encouraged.

No one in my family line could marry for love. My mother was a concubine and my grandmother before her.

That does not mean they were not loved. But marriage wasn't feasible.

It helps to have a frame of reference. Otherwise it becomes too cryptic and bizarre.
