[He shakes his head and grimaces. He still doesn't like talking about it, so his voice lowers.]

[There is a moment of surprise before it all becomes more clear than it had been. The way he seemed secretive at times or spoke about certain topics. It fit.]

Oh. [Softly.] Are you okay? [She can tell it's not something he wanted or something he's proud of. She doesn't need to make him feel more guilty about it.]

[He'd wanted it well enough, as it was the only option ever presented to him - until he realized what it really meant. And then he'd ditched it as soon as he could.

Based on what I heard about them? I can't blame you for that. They sound like exactly the kind of people you want to keep as far away from as possible.

[That's a good point, but the facts would be even less impressive to her than the unknown.]

Yeah. How much did you hear about them?

They're from a pretty recent history to most Earth people here, and they killed a lot of people for really stupid reasons like what they look like or where their ancestors were from.

My people were one of the groups they targeted, but it was before I was born. Does the First Order target people like that? Based on religion and ethnicity or something specific?

[He shakes his head.]

Politics. There's a side of human supremacism, but that has more to do with who gets in command than anything else. That said, even being loosely connected to someone with the "wrong" politics can be a death sentence--like, living on the same planet.

[His posture seems to relax a little.]

We'd taken a Resistance pilot as a prisoner, so I broke him out and we escaped together.

Rey? [He did speak highly of her. ~~And Kitty hasn't seen the movie. Though she should because it's amazing.~~]

[Just the mention of her brings out that soft smile of his.]

Poe, actually. Didn't meet Rey till the ship we stole crash-landed on her planet and I got lost.

Bumpy escape. [She doesn't know the circumstances, but she assumes it was impressive enough they got away at all.] Glad you made it.

So... Are you a clone? [Omg, Kitty. You can't just ask people if they're clones.]

[He shakes his head.] Hux actually argued against clones - said it was better to use soldiers conditioned from birth. There hasn't been a sizeable clone army since General Kenobi's time. Too costly.

[And now she's wondering if he was part of a "breeding program" like he mentioned.] You were with them since you were a baby? You never knew anything else?

[Nope - worse. His tone gets a little lower.]

[Finn blinks. Now there's something that honestly hadn't occurred to him.]

I don't know if the First Order would keep that kind of thing in their records or not. Why would they?

I don't know. Maybe they're just record keeping kind of people? [He'd know better than her.] Maybe to know when to avoid or go back to certain places more frequently.

[It's not like Stormtroopers ever get to see their own files, so while he still looks thoughtful Finn shrugs.]

Even if they do, it's not the kind of thing you can exactly waltz up and ask them about when the biggest thing on your file is traitor.

Hack the files? [Okay, probably not an easy task, but it's where her mind goes at least.]

[Luckily, the augment translates that to the term he's more familiar with.]

Have to infiltrate a base again, and find out where they're kept. It's not like here, where most things are just on the network. Be too easy for an enemy to take remote control of a ship that way. Data's stored locally and sometimes hard copy only.

[That's the whole reason a single piece of data BB-8 took had started Finn's whole adventure.]
