Who: Krista Kingsley
Broadcast: Video, to the whole network!
Action: Bishop, if applicable...
When: Right now!
[your resident jaded teenage goth is looking particularly cheery today! soft-spoken as usual, but pretty excited about something! she's holding up her communicator so that everyone can see the inside of her personal office--the only perk of being a Personnel Officer.]
Hey guys! So, Chris just gave me the best idea... I know that some of us are already stocking up on as many books as we can get our hands on while we're near civilization, and I've already got like, three people I'm going to end up swapping reading with, but what about this.
[she swings around to show the desk and couch, showing the space.] I've got this room, right? Part of whatever my augment's got going on... I could turn it into a library! You guys can shuttle books over to the Bishop when you're done reading them, and then anyone can check them out.
[she starts listing things off on her fingers...] I can catalog them, sort them by topic, make a system so we know which books are going where... Maybe keep stuff like blueprints and maps, too, so that it can be accessed from one place. Oh! And I was thinking of making physical copies of all the network entries and stuff that's stored in the ship computers, in case, I don't know, the network becomes irreversibly corrupted and we need to look up old shit.
[she's so excited. she's so excited. it's probably boring archival work, but she looks like a kid in a candy store.]
In the reverse, if someone out there can make me some kind of a scanner, maybe we can create digital copies of all these books, so I could just send them out to the ship computers if there's a request. Like, someone could just say, hey, do you have anything about giant space wasps? And I'd be like, bam, files sent. That'd be so cool.

Oh nooooooo, the books.
[What did he do with all his books? Did he make a nest? HE CAN'T REMEMBER!!!]
Anywa, count me in. I'm always supporting of us having access to a giant library.
...I think I stashed my maps somewhere on the Blue Fish....
[SOMEWHERE] I can try and work on a scanner. I should still have parts left that I didn't weld together to make a giant statue of my girlfriend.
Video
Yeah, that was kind of silly. No worries! You'll find all that stuff eventually...

Ugh, I really hope so.

That sounds like a pretty good idea, Krista-chan. What would I have to do to get access to this library? Donate a book or two?
[That was about the extent of Adachi's willingness to exert himself towards this project, but he had to make it seem like he'd be willing to do more.]
Video
[she's just in such a good mood! maybe she would have said something a little more self-beneficial if her augment wasn't malfunctioning her full of dopamine.]

Hmm... can't say I have any books on me. Are there specific books you'd want, or books on specific topics?
[He'll keep an eye out for anything that looks easy enough to obtain. He wants to put forth just enough effort to not seem like a complete free-loader. Sigh, it's hard always following the path of minimum effort.]

I wonder if I could get someone to write some sort of text recognition program... It would be so awesome if we could look for keywords in multiple documents at once...

I can ferry mine over. And maybe make some targeted purchases, if I can scare up some more income.

[she fidgets with her hair... she really burned through her bank account with that last visit to the vanity moon.]
I think you can bring things over whenever, I've just got to make sure our captain actually lets you in.

That sounds like a good idea. I don't think I can help you copy anything, but I'd certainly like to use something like that.

[a little laugh.] And if you're looking for something to do, I'm sure I can think of more weird little book projects, or whatever.
