Hey guys! So, Chris just gave me the best idea... I know that some of us are already stocking up on as many books as we can get our hands on while we're near civilization, and I've already got like, three people I'm going to end up swapping reading with, but what about this.

[she swings around to show the desk and couch, showing the space.] I've got this room, right? Part of whatever my augment's got going on... I could turn it into a library! You guys can shuttle books over to the Bishop when you're done reading them, and then anyone can check them out.

[she starts listing things off on her fingers...] I can catalog them, sort them by topic, make a system so we know which books are going where... Maybe keep stuff like blueprints and maps, too, so that it can be accessed from one place. Oh! And I was thinking of making physical copies of all the network entries and stuff that's stored in the ship computers, in case, I don't know, the network becomes irreversibly corrupted and we need to look up old shit.

[she's so excited. she's so excited. it's probably boring archival work, but she looks like a kid in a candy store.]

In the reverse, if someone out there can make me some kind of a scanner, maybe we can create digital copies of all these books, so I could just send them out to the ship computers if there's a request. Like, someone could just say, hey, do you have anything about giant space wasps? And I'd be like, bam, files sent. That'd be so cool.

That sounds like a pretty good idea, Krista-chan. What would I have to do to get access to this library? Donate a book or two?

[That was about the extent of Adachi's willingness to exert himself towards this project, but he had to make it seem like he'd be willing to do more.]

Hmm... can't say I have any books on me. Are there specific books you'd want, or books on specific topics?

[He'll keep an eye out for anything that looks easy enough to obtain. He wants to put forth just enough effort to not seem like a complete free-loader. Sigh, it's hard always following the path of minimum effort.]

Krista is just as quiet in person as she is over the network, but she still sounds hyped.] Yeah, you would? I mean--it's not a very big room, but you think maybe it could work...?

Not a bad idea at all! The digital copies, especially. You'll run out of space in there eventually and need to take in new stock, so having a copy that didn't take up space on hand would be useful!

Yeah, I was thinking about that... I can space-manage with the best of them, but this little room is going to fill up pretty fast, and pulling up a digital copy would be easier than digging around in storage...

I wonder if I could get someone to write some sort of text recognition program... It would be so awesome if we could look for keywords in multiple documents at once...
