[ In truth she doesn't want to wake, she wants to sleep for weeks or months. Avoid the deep ache in her bones, the bile rising in her throat, the disgust that twists her insides into knots. That way she doesn't have to look at them then, doesn't have to look at him, and watch them recoil from her like some sort of thing - some sort of monster. But she does wake slowly, muscles protesting at even the slightest movement, jolts of agony dancing across her every nerve. Curling in on herself she clutches the sheets around her, hoping to shut the world out for at least a moment longer.
Good job Marian, you blew it. Just had to go and screw everything up, didn't you? Couldn't be happy with being bloody happy!
An ugly pit coils in her belly making her pull her sheets around herself some more, eyes clamping closed tighter. The smell of blood sharp in her nose, the taste of cooper lingering on her tongue. Reminds that cling to her like a wet blanket, that refuse to let her forget her own idiocy. If she hadn't rushed in like she had, if she hadn't stumbled and allowed herself to get caught. It'd be nice if they could all pretend nothing happened. Everyone going back to how things were when no one knew about Marian Hawke's dirty little secret or how much of a giant hypocrite she is. The woman that who damns blood magic and the very people who practice it a bloody blood mage herself. Maker's balls it is so painfully ironic.
It'd be nice really, but there is no going back now, no way to run. All there is to do now is watch her approval ratings plumett into the red. No way she's getting that special Wicked Grace scene now. ]

[ She moves closer to the bed, picking up a couple of pieces of fruit without hesitation and tossing them into her mouth. In a perfect world she would have come back to the ship without anyone noticing, grabbed her things, then found somewhere to hide until the proverbial storm blew over. But it isn't a perfect world and there aren't that many places she can actually hide. ]
If I said yes, would you believe me?

[Whatever her reasons were for dodging them, Dany wasn't going to press her about them.]
I only wish to see to your wellbeing, nothing more. You need not tell me what happened, I've heard some talk of dragons loose on the surface already.
[Which bothers her, honestly. What if someone took issue with Drogon because of it? He had come to a dangerous place, it seems.]
You confronted it, I assume?

Picking up another piece of fruit she pops it into her mouth. ]
Yeah, I thought to distract it long enough for people to get away. [ Just thinking about the creature makes her skin crawl. ] It isn't a normal dragon, there is something off about it.

[Dany folds her hands in her lap as she makes herself more comfortable at Hawke's bedside, looking at her questioningly. She had barely any experience with magic but what little she did have was not exactly good - save for her dragons. She would have been lost without them.]

Just being near it made me feel like I was about to barf. Not to mention it seemed to be more interested in destroying public property than it was in actually eating people.
[ Without warning she picks the plate up off the bed and sits herself down, legs crossed and food resting upon her knee. Any thoughts of spiriting herself off to some dank corner put on hold in favor of stuffing her face. ]

That is odd. The public property bit... ah- when Drogon was much larger... he was fond of tearing apart livestock. He'd never eaten a person before but... once he mistook a young girl for food.
[She hesitates while telling her story, hoping to express that she understands the distinction Hawke is making between the Dragon's behavior and normal behavior that she has seen. Hawke is the only person she's even been remotely comfortable explaining the story too at the moment, purely because she loved Drogon so. It was her hope that such a thing would not dampen her view of him.]
I still regret it. Very much. But I suppose it's better he isn't nearly large enough to carry a person now - he won't become a problem like this other dragon you met.

Dragons are predators, Dany. It is natural for them to think we're food as it's for us to think venison is delicious. [ She shrugs her shoulders, popping more pieces of fruit into her mouth. ] I'm sure he you could have taught him that eating people is bad but, well, you're a Queen. Would you have had time to juggle political nonsense with reining in a temperamental teenage dragon?
[ Mayhap she shouldn't be so casual about it but... well, she is casual about it. ]
At least now you have the time to do it. [ Chew, chew, chew. ] And he won't be like that dragon, I can stand around him without feeling sick.

[She shakes her head, as if she can shake that thought away.]
You're right, though. My hands were tied after that. I needed my people to trust me so I tried to have him and his brothers locked away where they could not hurt anyone. It didn't feel right to me, but then letting them hurt other people didn't feel right either.
[Still, she smiles for the fact that Hawke has faith that she can change things.]
I wonder why that is... that ill feeling you got from the other dragon.

[ At least speaking from her sad wingless experience. Many a tantrum was thrown in her young life, a few of them definitely fiery once her magic made itself known. ]
You did what you had to do, though I most certainly do not envy you. I could barely stand all the politics and backstabbing amongst the nobles when I was Champion, I can only imagine it's worse when you're a Queen.
[ Too many noble parties, too many son trying to court her, not enough free hitting things and free food. ]
I don't know, but I'd rather not experience that again.

[Nor did most men.]
