[The face that appears onscreen might be familiar to some Fleet members- except her hair is brown to Jennifer's blonde, and this gal definitely has a different accent. Also, she looks pretty crabby.]

Okay. So. I barely wake up in bed on this strange ship afore I appear on another one, and all I get for my troubles is a cup of pudding? No "hello, here's a recording explaining everything"? A nice dinner, maybe? 'least it tastes like actual chocolate... [She sighs, then softens up.] I been watching the network a bit, so I'm just gonna skip the part where I demand to be taken home. So, uh, I guess I'll just say hello. I'm Kaylee, I love ships n' engines, so at least I'll feel a little at home here, but other than that, I ain't quite sure what's going on.

ACTION - SS Golden

[As she waits for responses, Kaylee can be found exploring her new home, poking at the various bits of protein available in the kitchen, looking around her new quarters, but she spends the most time in the engine room, enthralled.]

Well, I'll try my best, Sorey! What sorta favor do you need?

I'm mostly wonderin' what they think makes a person entertaining. Like, what do we do on this show?

From what I've picked up, they seem to like it if something goes wrong. Up to you if you want to play along with that.

The sort of favor I need is some engineering help. Are you pretty familiar with how these ships work too?

Well, that don't sound very appealing to me. Wouldn't it be better to watch nice things happening? Romance and adventure...

Hmm, I ain't seen ships like most of the ones in the Fleet, but I've always had a knack for figuring things out, too. Machines talk to me, y'know? So I can try!

Those get positive responses too, but it's not until something goes wrong that they seem really happy.

I'd really appreciate it. I haven't had any experience with technology before I came here, so if I could get an expert's eyes on the engines of my ship I'd sleep a little better.

Sounds awful mean of them, to tell you the truth.

What seems to be the problem with 'em? Or don't you know enough to tell for sure? ... and how can I get myself over to your ship?

Ah, there's a shuttle bay in each of the ships. The shuttles all have autopilot on them so you can just pick the Huntress from the list. Or I can come get you, if you're unsure. [but given that she's a spaceship-familiar type of person, sorey's pretty sure the lady's got it on lock]

Shiny~ I definitely know how to fly a shuttle by myself. Be there in a few!

[He's sitting on a crate just past the airlock, waiting for the docking bay to pressurize before getting up to greet her.] Hey, thanks so much for coming over; I appreciate you going to all this trouble.

[Kaylee waved in greeting as she emerged.]

No trouble. I can't promise I'll be able to fix it, but I'll give it my best shot. Workin' on ships is just about the best thing in the world to me.

Really? [That's nice, at least if she's kidnapped she can still do something she likes.] Did they give you an engineering augment? Or did you end up getting something else, since you're already so good at it?

Augment? That this thing they put in my noodle? [She taps the little lump behind her ear.]

That's the one. Some of them dump a lot of info into your head if you need it for your job. Do you know anything you feel like you didn't before?

... well, if that ain't one of the creepiest things I've heard. [She shook her head.] Not so far, but maybe at the right time I will.

It's definitely invasive. Won't hear any arguments out of me. [Sorey sighs and feels back for his own augment just behind an earring cuff.] It's been useful so far since I didn't even know spaceships were a thing before coming here, but it's like handing someone a translation dictionary and expecting them to learn a new language. I'm still floundering a lot.

Whoa, whoa- you never had no spaceships back home? [From Kaylee's tone, she doesn't sound skeptical, just... not really able to wrap her head around such a concept.]

It's hard to believe, huh? [Probably especially for someone who has lived with them her whole life.] Nope, no spaceships. We had seafaring ships, of course, but I'd never been on one before. In fact, we really didn't know very much about the sky past our own world.

Wow... I... I can't really picture that. I mean, I know it took humans some time to have the technology to build ships and all, but that was so long ago...

That's me, ancient past guy. [He gives her a faint smile as they round the hallway corner into Engineering.] Okay, so this is Engineering. Life support hub is over there, engines and core here. Diagnostic panels over there.

Goes to show ya we can take things for granted, I guess.

[However, that subject was gone from Kaylee's mind as she saw all of the panels and engines and was almost overwhelmed.]

Oh, oh, gosh... it's all so pretty...

[Sorey's not sure he'd personally call it pretty, but then again he thinks dusty old tombs are super neato so he recognizes the sentiment.] Is this the first engine room you've seen since you got here?

I seen the one on the Golden, but this one's just as exciting! [And she sounds genuinely enthused about that.] Every ship's got its own story to tell, after all.

You can tell that just from looking at the engine? [Sorey rolls over the tool chest for her to poke around in, if she wants. Go on, get in there. There's totally no way she's a bad or suspicious person; she said she loves ships! And just look how she's glowing.]

[And Kaylee begins digging in the tool chest eagerly.] Well, not completely, but it makes sense, don't it? Every ship's got a different crew and been to different places and had different people workin' on it... if only they could talk in a way all of us could listen to. Now, where's this hiccup you were tellin' me about?

Ah, this in here... [The crawlspace beneath the engine is barely large enough for two people, and Sorey has to point from a distance to show her exactly where he's talking about.] Do you see those moving parts in there? On every fourth rotation, the one all the way on the left catches. I checked for anything stuck in the way but there's nothing, all the way up the shaft. So I think it must be a mechanical error, but darned if I can figure out which part it is.

[Kaylee rubbed her hands together eagerly.]

Let me go take a look at it- I'll be back in a jiffy. [And without waiting for a reply, Kaylee's on her back, underneath the crawlspace, checking out the problem. She'd never been on a ship of this type before, but when had that ever stopped her? And soon enough, she was back, standing back up straight.]

I think I can see what the problem is- something's out of alignment and it's gumming up the whole works.
