[Coil doesn't ever smile, of course... but this might be the closest he's gotten in a while.

seeing that little bit of suffering seems to be enough, because he finally goes easy on his poor crewmate after that. stepping closer, he obligingly reaches down, braces a knee, and huffs the barbell up and off of Arthur's chest.

there you go, friend--rescued by a teenager.]

[Huh... Awesome okay. He sits up and rubs a hand across his chest.] Thank you.

[It's not sarcastic. He means it seriously. But that's as much thanks as he's going to get before-] Enjoyed yourself?

[He means to look completely put-out, but somehow, a little humor creeps in.]

[he doesn't answer directly, but another slight lift of his chin might imply a yes. because he absolutely did enjoy letting Arthur squirm for a minute.

and then, since he really had walked in on a ridiculous image, he gestures questioningly between the barbell and Arthur. what in the world had he been trying to accomplish there?]

[Arthur turns even redder, if that's possible.] I... I wanted to impress Syeira.

[YEAH he walked right into that one, didn't he? in fact, he stumbles into it so unexpectedly, the pieces don't quite click together in his head properly.

his eyebrows knit down in confusion, and he draws a question mark in the air with one finger.]

[Fidgeting] Um... I wanted to gain muscle so Syeira would find me more attractive.

[he blinks a few times as some looming dread begins to descend down onto his brain. it is the feeling of a certain realization dawning...]

[--and when it finally hits, there's a choked, voiceless sound of surprise in Coil's throat, and he flinches half a step back from Arthur as though he's infected with something contagious.

a perfectly reasonable reaction. he is obviously happy for you both.]

[Blinking...] Hey, I'm not that bad. I do care about her. A lot.

[oh no... now he's making it worse. Coil grimaces as Arthur goes on, and starts to shake his head.

nope. no thanks. he'll pass.]

[He stops, his eyes narrowing.] You... Seriously, Coil? You can't listen to a little relationship talk?

[oh, gods. first "care" and now "relationship?" what is he trying to do to him??

alarmed, maybe disgusted, he hisses a breath between his teeth and his hands go up like he's considering clamping them over his ears. just totally grossed out by the whole idea.]

[His lips twitch into a smile as he realizes he's got Coil squirming.] I kissed her. A lot.

[--NOPE. no, he's done. he's had enough. he surrenders. Arthur wins.

there's another (probably very satisfying) sound of strangled disgust, before he really does shove his palms over his ears.

he doesn't want to hear another word. he's already backpeddaling toward the door, like the mature adult that he is.]

[Trying to hold back laughter.]

Coil, I'm sorry! I'll stop!

[Because really anything beyond that is between him and Syeira. And he doesn't really want to torture Coil anymore.]

[he hesitates, looking back before he actually flees, but it's mostly to shoot Arthur a childish, dirty look. he'll wait for a second or two, but that's it. he is more than ready to escape this atrocity.]
