[We're drifting, so it's a perfect time to make use of the many fine establishments on our common ship.]

Then I shall take the opportunity to move about more. I've spent too much time on the ship anyway.

[As someone who stays on the ship most of the time now, Erik knows there's merit in that. So he nods.]

Why not join me?

[He blinks, then smiles a bit.]

...sure.

Splendid.

[ He pats his armrest. ] I made sure this thing got a full charge as well.

I noticed you've been avoiding it. Hard to recharge without a sun, I expect.

[Erik starts to walk down the hallway, towards the garden area.]

That's one of the reasons, yes. But I was also afraid of the overload, so I kept to the Heron.

Fair enough. [No reason to pry further into that, knowing what he does now.] Now that everyone's confined to the ships, it's a bit harder to avoid.

Mmm. Well, it can't be helped.

But the meditation has helped?

[They reach the garden as Erik asks the question, and it is blessedly quiet.]

[ He nods. ]

It's like being in a quiet meadow. It's not so quiet that it's unnatural but silent enough to be soothing.

[It's interesting to hear it spoken of that way. Erik wouldn't say his experience is the same. For him, meditation is more akin to going somewhere dark, only it's a comfort. He sits down on one of the chairs in the garden.]

That's good, then.

[ Charles tentatively smiles. ]

It has been helpful.

I think so too. [Erik's calmer than he was before he started taking the lessons. It had helped to keep a routine, something to anchor him through the tumultuous first days and weeks back.]

I'm glad. Truly.

[He lets out a breath, smiling briefly.]

[ He smiles before ducking his head. ]

It's nice that we have the Iskaulit, at least.

I can't imagine what it was like before this ship was brought in.

I'm sure some of the others would know.

Yes. [He passes his gaze over the plants, feeling the faint breeze from the ship's air ducts.] I don't much care to find out, though.

I suppose it doesn't really matter.

[ Like the library. Or Kyriakos. ]

[It was before their time here, and he feels no need to think about how cramped it would have been before a communal ship was available. It serves no purpose for him, other than to make him uncomfortable.]

It doesn't, no. It's not the case now.

[ He nods. ]

I suppose space could never be called ephemeral, compared to a planet or some distant star. Sometimes, I find it to be a strange juxtaposition, the way change or lack of it clashes.

No. Space will be around long after everything else is gone.

[He pulls a leaf off a nearby plant, rolling it between his fingers.] The more things change, the more they stay the same. [It applies to a lot of things; darker things, that he won't raise here.]

Maybe so. But you can always change things for yourself.
