[ Matt hates confetti, there's nothing worse for upsetting his senses than over stimulation. So he stands, waiting for the 'celebration' to pass. He'd only been in the last room (ship?) long enough to be moved along to the next, so now here he was, trying to get his bearing through a snowstorm of flying paper.

Once he does, at least a bit, he can focus on the refreshments. It's clearly party food, which seems safe enough, so he assembles his stick and moves forward. ]

I, uh, hello?

[ He clears his throat. ]

My name's Matt Murdock, and I think you all are expecting me.

[ Later, Matt sits in front of the monitor, dark red glasses covering his eyes. He's calm, but it's clear that he's holding back stronger emotions. ]

If anyone seeing this knows me, I need to know you're here. Suffice to say, I have a few questions.

How about 'how does a doctor get assigned to be a cook'? Sounds like an incredible waste of resources.

[arfvader]

You are "preaching to the choir", as they say! In any case, we already have a healer on board who considers modern medicine "archaic", and so I have been relegated to the kitchen on account of my cooking augment. Que sera, sera!

[avocadoatlaw]

[ Chuckles. ]

In that case I suppose I should be thankful they left me in my own field. Sort of a consolation for being kidnapped.

[arfvader]

And what was it that you did again?

[Because Ravi has noooo idea. None.]

[avocadoatlaw]

Legal consulting, but I'm not sure a lawyer is going o do anyone any good here.

[arfvader]

Hey, you never know! Could be some big, intergalactic court cases going on that we know nothing about. Besides, I've heard we sometimes get the opportunity to land on other planets, and who knows what kind of trouble people could get into that requires a lawyer to bail them out!

[avocadoatlaw]

[ laughs ]

Somehow that's the most normal thing I've heard today.

[arfvader]

[ He takes a deep breath, ready to switch gears. ]

So how do things work here, then? What's the day to day?

[arfvader]

I've only been around about a week, but it sounds like we drift in space until we encounter some kind of planet or pit stop. Your day is your own to plan a routine around, as far as I understand. I'm pretty convinced it's what you make of it, but that's probably because I'm determined to make the most of being in space!

[avocadoatlaw]

It does kind of sound like all this could be worse... you know, relatively.

[arfvader]

I still say it's an improvement on the zombie camp I was trapped in, food situation aside.

[avocadoatlaw]

Excuse me, "zombie camp"?

[arfvader]

It's a long story.

[He pauses for dramatic effect, but the enthusiasm kicks in and takes over again.]

Hear something weirder than what I've experienced today? Absolutely.

[arfvader]

So basically this is not my first rodeo when it comes to inter-dimensional kidnapping. The first place I ended up masqueraded as some kind of zombie summer camp based in France, and it was populated with purple gorillas and other fascinating creatures - like Marcy the tentacle monster and the mind-reading toucans.

My only regret is that I didn't manage to get my lab up-and-running so I could do a little research there!

If you had told me that yesterday I probably wouldn't have believed you.

Does that mean you have a lab here?

[arfvader]

Sadly, no. Being a cook means the laboratory is technically not my jurisdiction.

[avocadoatlaw]

Does that mean you hypothetically use one?

[arfvader]

Yes, but the problem is that without the lab augment, all the machinery might as well be alien technology that requires me to be fluent in gibberish to operate.

[avocadoatlaw]

If that's the case, what does the cooking augment do? Help you read labels?

[arfvader]

Your guess is as good as mine. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a complete dunce in the kitchen and my crewmates are liable to become victims of food poisoning, at this rate.

But not so far. See, that's not a bad start.

[arfvader]

I think people are less worried about the start and more about the possible "end" that could accompany my cooking, but fair point.
