[hey droot flooters! how are those new augment glitches going? how's your crew? what fresh trouble have you been getting into? how are those jobs paying off? whether you're in your ship, on one of the moons, stuck on Marsiva, or hiding out on one of the waystations in-between, your audience wants to know what you're up to!

note: there are an unusual number of shoes on sale in the shops today. the ones on Abeo are pretty ugly.]

I think he'd hit his head three times before he could fit. But that's just my opinion.

[He grins a bit.]

I'm doing my best. He's pretty sharp, though-- he'll complain if I keep giving him easy jobs. But he's in no real danger as long as he doesn't run through the cities screaming, "Look at me! I'm a smuggler!"

If he scrunched up a lot, I'm sure he could fit without hurting himself.

[It's an amusing mental image, to say the least and Cole's grinning widely at the thought.]

You know what they say about the smart ones, they get bored if you don't give them something to challenge them. There's no worry about him shouting that in the streets. He's good about keeping things quiet, too good if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.

[That is pretty amusing, and Varric imagines it.] Haha, maybe.

He can't keep his mouth shut when he's around me, but he's-- [His smile softens and he catches himself, looks and feels a bit awkward.] -- he's a good kid. I'm glad he's got parents who look out for him.

[Maker knows Varric didn't. And neither did any of his friends.]

You're lucky then. He doesn't open up to people outside of family and even inside the family, it can be difficult.

[Which he knows from experience. For once, Cole loses the lighthearted expression that seems to be permanently stuck on his face for something a bit more somber. He wasn't there for Chris because he died, but that's not a topic he'll get into with Varric.]

Yeah, he's a good kid and I'm glad to be his father. I try my best to look out for him, but it's difficult, especially with that stubborn streak of his.

[Varric has a feeling there's a bit more to this story. Chris' reaction to Cole's lullaby when they'd been appointed to the ship, and the whole 'I'm not mentioning my tragic backstory' thing. But he doesn't pry about these things unless it's necessary. It's better to just let them come out on their own.]

Does that run on both sides?

['cause seriously, Chris is STUBBORN.]

[The only way Cole would reveal Chris' tragic backstory is after quite a few drinks and a melancholy mood and that's not happening any time soon, so it will continue to be a mystery for quite a while yet.]

You have no idea. His mother and I are both incredibly stubborn and that seemed to pass down to Chris.

[Charmed One + half-demon trying to be good = impossibly stubborn child.]
