note: there are an unusual number of shoes on sale in the shops today. the ones on Abeo are pretty ugly.]

[Shirley's reading a book when Chris comes in, and once he catches her attention she stands up. It's not really unusual to see Chris here, especially as of late, but they are something like coworkers and that warrants some extra courtesy.]

Chris! How are you doing today?

[ Chris offers a half-smile, looking a bit awkward to be caught. Not that he's doing anything wrong, he just has this aversion to people seeing him working. It's weird. ]

Same as usual. Have you been... shopping lately?

Shopping? Yes, I have. Has there been a problem?

[Shirley's not sure what to make of the question, although she hopes it doesn't mean her lack of experience with budget-handling is showing.]

Huh? Oh, no. [ He's a bit distracted now that he's noticed some of the new books, picking one up to inspect the spine before he turns it over to check the front. He shrugs before he looks back to Shirley. ] I just noticed the decoration, too.

You've been busy.

There's a lot to do here. It's a nice change from from last month.

[She sounds pretty happy about that. You can only go to the spa so many times, and the shopping opportunities in January were limited if you didn't want Froot Loops everything.]

Tell me about it.

[ He definitely agrees with that, even if most of his time has been spent reading, stocking up on ingredients or otherwise learning how to smuggle with Varric. Oops. ]

I'm almost going to miss it once we're out of range again.

We're going somewhere new, once that happens. I wonder what it'll be like.

[Shirley looks thoughtful as she considers where they've been so far. A giant forest and a triangle of moons...]

Something cozier would be nice. It would almost be like at home.

Are we? I mean, it's pretty weird that everything is just out of range of each other if you think about it.

[ He's not going to be surprised if they end up in an empty stretch of space for a while. ]

Depends on your definition of cozy. Or... what other people think of as home, I guess.

It would remind me of home, anyway, or at least as close as I can get without being there.

[She gives a wistful sigh there.]

But while we are here, I want to make the best of things.

[ Chris considers that, gives a bit of a shrug. ]

Yeah, I guess I can see that. Feels almost like giving up to me, but... [ That isn't a judgment against you, Shirley. He's just bad at people. ]

I don't think it's the same as giving up, but I understand. I don't want to be here forever.
