[The book snaps into his hands and that's it. There goes Mattias' attention. Gone. Utterly shocked, he stares blankly as the book snaps closed and disappears again. Determined to find it, he clamors onto the table and rummages through the pile before finally finding it. In the exact place it was before. Opening up to the crumpled page, he stared at it, then back to the culprit, gaping wide.]

How did you do that?

[Oh, that's always a fun reaction to his magic. Was he one of those poor people from worlds without magic or was stuck merely mortal with those around him having magic? Either seemed like it would be terrible in Cole's opinion, having been a powerless mortal for a short period of time and it leading to him being possessed.]

It's just one of the many neat tricks I have as a magical being. A demon, to be precise. [He sounds really proud of that fact.]
noctiphile: (ok or we could not be dumb)

[personal profile] noctiphile 2015-03-04 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[That earns a snort. Mattias looks him over, lip curling slightly. After a long stretch of time, he shakes his head.]

You're not a demon. [With a sigh, he shifts positions, one leg pressed against his chest, while the other dangles off the table.] A magical being, though. I can believe that. So what are you really?

[Wow, rude. Cole takes offense to that.]

You know, a lot of people say that, but when I do this--[Without any flourish, Cole changes into Belthazor and when he keeps speaking, it's a weird double voice, one deep and one light overlapped over each other into one voice.]--people say differently. Demons don't always work how you think they do in other worlds. I've had a couple people say that I'm possessing this body, but where I'm from, only possessor demons and the Source of All Evil can do that.

And where I'm from, demons look like this. [He picks up a bottle of ink between his thumb and forefinger, jiggling the liquid at him.] So you can forgive me for my skepticism.

[Setting the ink down, he crosses his legs, resting his elbow on his leg and his head on his hand.] But let's say you are as you claim. It'd certainly excuse the rudeness. [Ah, but he's straying from the point.] What brings on the change? I'm assuming you're a human or something lesser when you don't look like that, yes? So what brings it on? Surely, you can't control it.

Oh, we have some like that back home too. Not nearly as common, but they exist. There are a lot of different kinds of demons in the Underworld.

[He's just going to grab a chair and sit down since it looks like he's going to be here a while.] The change is completely controllable outside of major injuries or certain spells. It's one of the perks of being only half demon instead of a full blooded one. While I'm in this form, I gain great power but at the cost of possibly reverting back to my demonic ways of killing people. [And here he changes back to his human form.] But while I'm in this form, I have a drop in strength, but I also can hide from other magical beings and not have to worry about the possibility of becoming evil.

So it's camouflage. [Mattias spares two fingers to point, nodding solemnly.] You're changing your scales. It makes sense.

[With a thoughtful noise, he leans back, freeing one hand to gesture.] And what type of power do you get from it? Any particular sort of magic or... [He searches for the words and finds none.]-Forgive me, I'm rather new to the concept. I'm afraid I don't know any of the terms.

That's it exactly. Demons breed with humans so that their children can blend in with humans and take over their organizations or hunt down witches and innocents with less difficulties.

Magic works since that's what it is. I can do basic things like cast spells and make potions and most demons have the ability to throw energy balls and shimmer or, if you're a powerful enough demon, flame. You saw item summoning, but I can also cause weaker beings to burst into flame and I have telekinesis.

[There's a short pause.]

...You want a demonstration of the less murderous stuff?

[personal profile] noctiphile 2015-03-06 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Witches"? [He blinks, then waves it off.] Nevermind. Later.

[Sliding off the table, he lands neatly on his feet, brushing off his hands.] Provided they're not destructive, I'd love a demonstration. [Clapping his hands, he holds them out.] I'm assuming it'll be telekinesis? As you've said, you've already done item summoning and anything with flame would be too violent.
devilsinthedetails: (♟ I can't remember how)

[personal profile] devilsinthedetails 2015-03-06 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Later then.

Telekinesis isn't all that interesting. I just do this [and he waves his hand slightly so that a book on the top of the pile goes flying into the air and into his hand] and that's not very fun to watch. Now shimmering is a bit more exciting to watch.

[Cole shimmers away and after a long moment, shimmers back into his chair, looking genuinely amused.]

It's definitely more flashy.

[He sounds distracted, mulling over an issue he can't quite find justification for.] But what's the purpose of it? Why not simply appear there without the effect? It wouldn't change much. The action would still be the same. Is there some reason why you have to-[he sways his hands, mimicking the motion of the shimmer]-in order to do it?
