[ today, winn is coming to you live from the tourist's cargo hold. clearing his throat, he offers the camera a little smile ]

Sup, Fleeters, Winn Schott here, hope space is treating you well today. I got three things to run by you today, I'll try to be quick.

So one, I got - [ he moves the camera away from his face to focus on a box of 10 bears, on the large side. they have been dyed, and colorful patches have been sewn decoratively all over their torsos and arms. when he got them, they were covered by straightjackets, so this is his fix ] these. If anyone wants one, you're welcome to them. [ unless you're a tourist crew member. they will have magically run out if one of you tries to get one. he doesn't care if you can see them, they're not staying on this goddamn ship, ok. ] If any are left over I'm gonna leave them in Discovery One on the Iskaulit for public use in case anyone turns tiny.

[ he turns the camera back to him ]

Two - for those of you who don't know, Cisco and I have been running lectures, concerts, and whatever else people have been willing to volunteer their time for on the Iskaulit, and we're running low now. If you've lectured before and you wanna go again - you're more than welcome to, if you're a newcomer - likewise. Just drop me or Cisco a line with your name, topic, title if you have one, and availability if you actually have a schedule to keep - and we'll add you to the roster.

Three - Hank - don't let it be said I don't pay my debts.

[ turning on the karaoke machine he built with cisco, he proceeds to offer the network his rendition of the dire strait's walk of life. once he's done singing, a little flushed and embarrassed because last time he did this it was with cisco this is so much more terrifying on his own!! he gives the camera a little nod and signs off. ]

[And yet once upon a time she did because she believed he could never hurt her. That their love would protect her. There is something almost cruel about having to live to see it didn't. But she's long past any regret that she was sparred by mysterious benefactors in the prison or here. She's on a path, not of her own choosing, but one that's led to some pretty great things like meeting Winn. Someone she would hate very much to be stabbing with little pins to the heart.

She sits beside him and when he speaks it's nothing like she expected. She thought he would admonish her after all about the network. There's a flicker of shame for worrying about herself when this is what he was carrying with him. She sinks in against him to pull him close.] I'm so sorry. He's not. They're just [don't say toying] messing with you.

I know. [ quietly, as he allows himself to be pulled and wraps an arm around her. ] I know. [ and it's working. ] I didn't wanna say anything, because I didn't want them to know it's getting to me but, [ he shrugs ] I want you to trust me more.

[ he cares more about kitty than he does the folks at home, is the bottom line. it's not easy, but he wants to be worthy of her trust. ]

[She pulls back just enough to look at him. To slide a hand up to his cheek.] Oh, Winn... [That feeling of shame is back.]

You deserve someone so much less damaged than me. [Stay with me anyway?]

[ he shakes his head and with a small smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes, answers. ]

That's my line. [ he didn't used to feel damaged. college, catco, they made him feel normal again. helping kara made him feel like he mattered for once in his life. but his father's escape, life on the fleet, having to talk about everything that's happened, being controlled, attacked, comatosed at will...in some ways, he has grown stronger for it, more confident and secure. in others, he feels like he's gone backwards, back to that damaged little boy who couldn't understand how and why his perfect family had fallen apart and abandon him to the wolves. ]

[Her hand slips to rest over his heart.] I want so badly to always do and say the right things for you. You always seem to for me. Any idea what that is? Give me hint? How many vowels?

[ that gets a more genuine kind of smile, and his thumb brushes her cheek lightly. ]

That sounded about right.

[ just that she cares, that's all he really ever needs to hear. ]

Really, I'm okay. I'll be happier once they're off the ship, but it's not that big a deal. [ maybe if he doesn't acknowledge it too much, it can really just fade away. ]

[If he needed a mountain moved she would MOVE THAT FUCKING MOUNTAIN. He really needs to make greater demands so she can show him. So far it's mostly that she never says a peep about always having the lights on.]

I could go get rid of them now. [Unless he'd rather keep her here.]

[ what can he say, he's all about a mountain's right to pick its own place. keeping what little pride he has left intact is much more important to him. ]

Mmhm, tempting. I might take you up on it, later. [ not having to load them on a shuttle and take them to the iskaulit himself does sound better, and he knows she wants to do something for him. he knows that feeling, that need to act, to do a thing that would make the person you love feel even a little better, or at least make you feel even a little less useless. it's a little thing, so he doesn't mind letting her take it. ] I'm waaay too comfortable right now.

[ leaning more and more against her. if she resists, he'll slide to lay his head in her lap. if she doesn't, he'll push them both down. ]

[She takes the leaning as him wanting to accept her support. So she doesn't think of it as resisting so much as giving him the freedom to relax. She smiles softly at the familiarity once his head is in her lap and her fingers curl lovingly into his hair.]

Also a good thing. [If he'd rather have her with him than removing bears that works for her.] I know you already announced where the rest would be but I could talk to Stefan about housing them in the interfaith center if you'd feel better about that.

[ he's really getting used to this position. it's comfortable and comforting. ]

...you think he wouldn't mind?

[ not having to see the box containing them every time he goes in for a lecture or an activity would be nice. he picked discovery one because that's his and cisco's space, it's a place he feels comfortable making decisions about, but if someone else wants to take them off his hands, he'll happily accept. ]

Only one way to find out. I could also see if Tyrion would let me keep it in the bar he manages, but interfaith center felt like a better fit. [And a place Winn is less likely to go maybe?]

Yeah - no. I don't wanna send kids looking for a toy to a bar.

[ and he also doesn't want to ask tyrion for any favors. he's getting progressively more and more uncomfortable with the man. ]

So, no teddy bears and martini specials for grade schoolers? Such a square, Winn.

[Stefan makes the most sense to her.]

Once a nerd, always a nerd.

[ he doesn't know him well, but he makes a hell of a lot more sense to him, too. he's never set foot there, but the guy seems level headed and nice, and it sounds like a safe space to send kids to. ]

You knew what you were getting yourself into.

I have a thing for nerds named Winn. What could I do?

That's a very specific type. [ quirking a brow at her ] So if my name was like, Jeremy or something, you'd pass?

Sometimes you have to date a little off soulmate, so you might have still had a small chance.

It's a good thing I never changed my name then.

[ he smiles, because small chances never really work for him, unless you're talking non-augmented hacking. then even a 1% chance is something he can work with. ]

[She looks at him thoughtfully, still brushing his hair.] Why didn't you? [It was his name after all.]

[ it's been a long time since he got asked that particular question. he didn't miss it. ]

It's my name. And if I started with that, where was it gonna end? I have a lot in common with him. Was I supposed to change my hobbies next? My interests? My strengths? He already killed so many people, Kitty, I wasn't about to let him kill me too.

I'm glad. [She doesn't want him to think she thought he should change it. She wouldn't have judged him if he had, but she's glad he stuck to it.] You've made it all your own.

And you have a hero's name, Glitch. [To oppose his father's villain's name he listed before.]

[ so many people have judged him for that decision over the years, or felt entitled to force their opinion on the matter on him. it's still a sore spot, but he holds true to his decision. he's always been winn, he can't imagine going by any other name, no matter how silly and punny it is. it's his name. ]

And it's way cooler, too.

[ even if the augment glitches are kind of killing it for him. he doesn't feel like 'glitches' or 'malfunctions' are really apt names for them, either. they're obviously purposeful. ]

[They can start a new term for it. She'll support him.] So much cooler. Just like you. [Leaning down to kiss his forehead.] You know you're a lot braver than you give yourself credit for.

[ best girlfriend. ] It's more habit than courage. [ he shrugs. ]

You could just say I'm right instead of proving you don't give yourself credit.
