[Finrod kneels down, offering his hand for Kiter to inspect before complying with the request for belly rubs- and grinning up at Riona.]

Your friend here is quite charming.

[Oh!! A new person!! Kiter barks excitedly before sniffing his hand because yes, must inspect first. New person doesn't smell funny and Kiter can sense he's a good, so he rolls onto his back and takes in that belly rub.

Meanwhile, his mistress laughs a little.]

It's almost rather confounding. Just a flash of the puppy eyes and he has people wrapped around his little paw.

Never doubt the power of puppy eyes- on puppies or people, for that matter. [He laughs a bit in return.] May I ask his name?

[And then, as he rises to his feet-] And yours, of course, my lady.

Truer words were never spoken. I've never been particularly good at them, but I've been on the receiving end enough times myself to know.

[She gestures to the pup.]

The belly rub whore down there is Kiter, and I am Riona. And yours?

I am the eldest of five; I count myself something of an expert on the topic.

[He blinks a little at her word choice there, but doesn't say anything of it, just continuing to smile and giving a little nod of his head.]

A pleasure, Riona. I am Finrod.

[Kiter lives up to his nickname when, feeling ignored already, he rolls onto his back and bares his belly to Finrod, hoping for some rubs.]

Pleasure to meet you as well. The eldest of five, you say? Goodness. Brothers and sisters, I imagine?

Feeling ignored already, are we? [But Finrod complies. Because he's a complete sucker.]

Three brothers and one sister- and if that strikes you as a large family, you should speak to my cousins. They come from a family of seven sons.

[Most are when it comes to him. Kiter's tongue rolls out happily as he enjoys his belly rubs.]

Your poor sister! I only ever had one brother; I can't imagine having four or six siblings.

My poor sister? Poor us, more like! She may have been the youngest and the only girl, but I assure you, Artanis caused more trouble than the rest of us put together. She was entirely too clever a child for her own good and determined to prove herself our equal, if not our better, in most things. [But, however much that may sound like a complaint, his voice is incredibly fond.]

I am sure you never gave your brother such difficulties. [The grin he gives her says otherwise. All sisters, he suspects, are at least a little bit of trouble.]

As she should have! Look at the odds stacked against her. [Riona's tone is teasing, and she's glad to hear him talk so fondly of his sister, all things considered.]

Well, not to my brother, for the most part. [She smiles a bit sheepishly.] He and I are rather far apart in age, so we didn't have quite of much of a sibling rivalry. I did, however, terrorize my mother a fair bit.

Ah, it was not so different with my sister and I, in truth. I had already reached the age of my majority by the time she was born; there are about sixty years between us, give or take. [Since, you know, the sun wasn't around back then to measure time by.]

It was less of a rivalry than- Artanis feeling the need to assert herself, I suppose.

[Riona just... slowly raise an eyebrow.]

You, ah, look awfully spry for someone over the age of sixty.

[He just laughs and pushes back his hair, revealing pointed ears (as if that answered everything).]

In fact, I have seen well over a thousand years; the elves of my world do not age in the manner of men. As long as I have been here, I still forget at times that this is not common knowledge, as it is in Arda.

[An elf. And one who speaks of immortality - or that's what it sounds like to her, anyway. Her confusion turns to curiosity as she takes in his explanation. So it wasn't just in Thedas that elves were immortal. Or had been, anyway.]

Well then. You look quite sprightly for over a thousand! [She laughs a little.] The elves in Thedas were said to be immortal once, though those days are long gone.

[He gives a little nod] So I have heard. I know only a little of the elves of Thedas, unfortunately, but from what I gather we are as different as we are similar.

They... do not always have the best lot in life. [Poor alienage elves. Maker, she hopes she and Alistair can help turn things around for them in Denerim.] What have you heard about the elves from my world?

Precisely that, for one. [He looks a little more somber at that.] Relations between races are not quite so...strained in Arda. But I have also been told something of the- 'Dalish,' was it not?

You are fortunate, then. At least in that regard.

[She nods at the mention of the Dalish.] Yes. They wander in their clans, preserving the old ways of their people and try and reclaim their heritage, much of which has been lost over the ages.
