sure, back then she was twelve, and it was mostly so that they could go, "look how darling, smart, and well-behaved our children are!" to their business associates, and back then she wore little pink and blue dresses with big, embarrassing bows in her hair, but... we can all just pretend that's history, right?
she's wearing a specially tailored dress. it's been infused with a little Glamour, so something about it just seems especially nice for some reason. she's done her hair up stylishly, unlike her usual lifeless and lanky affair. her makeup is even toned down--more of a mysterious smoky eye rather than the full-shadow thing she usually does. her cute necklace might have a small bird skull as the focal piece, but she can't go completely un-creepy, right?
she's hanging around, talking to people she knows... seems like she's having a fun time, but she still hangs around the edges of the room and listens to other conversations more than she actually engages in new ones. if there is dancing, she places herself strategically far away from it. that, and the punch bowl.]

Well, don't we shine up nice~?
no subject
Who, me? [she giggles, absolutely taking one of those little cocktail weenie toothpicks and immediately stuffing it in her mouth. and trying to talk around it. mumbling, really. she may look prettied up, but she's as loserly as always.]
no subject
[He pops one of the little weenies and fiddles with the toothpick.]
Quite the soiree, isn't it?
no subject
Yeah, pretty fancy shindig. I might have, uh... Dragged someone I know along with me, so that I'd at least have someone I know... It's mostly just faces on the network, yeah.

Still, he's at a loss for what to do. Dancing doesn't interest him and people-watching is even less enticing. He'll never admit it but he's desperate.
That's when he spots her. His savior from boredom, lingering on the opposite side of the room. Grabbing a cup full of punch, he cuts through to crowd to her, standing in front of her awkwardly. Now that he's here, he can't think of anything to say. Socializing was never his strong point.]
Hey. [A good start.] You're wearing a dress. [A good observation. He rewards himself with a drink.] It looks... [Uh.] ... black.
no subject
the good news is, no matter how prettied up she gets, she's not very good at socializing either.]
Uh, yeah. You're not wrong. [she nods a little, looking down at her dress as well.] They haven't invented a color darker than black yet, so I had to go with this one.
And you look... nice? [she tilts her head a little?] Is that the right word? You're wearing a suit.
no subject
Yeah. [He loosens the tie as he speaks.] Lost the jacket, though. Don't remember where I put it.
[Tie loosened, he glances behind him as if looking will make the coat magically appear. It doesn't. No surprise. Sighing, he nods back to her.] Why aren't you dancing?
[Don't girls like that sort of thing?]
no subject
[she squints at him a little. she knows what's in that punch. she might be trying to decide if he's tipsy or if he's always been this silly and prone to losing jackets. ...maybe. he kind of seems the type.
DANCING, THOUGH, she looks out at the dance floor.]
I don't like dancing with strangers. That's creepy.

[That's so rude, Zoro. At least he doesn't seem to mean much harm by it? Just points at her dress a little bit before letting the point fall to the wayside.] You came here without knowing anyone?
[He can't call that weird because he did it too BUT STILL: it's weird.]
no subject
[she reaches up to smack him in the arm, which is largely ineffectual, because she has the strength of a lazy starfish.]
And I came here with a date. His name's Kaneis. He's over there.
[POINTING TO WHERE KANEIS IS he's over there somewhere probably also being unsociable so there.]
no subject
Zoro follows where she points, giving Kaneis a brief once-over.]
What's with you two and black?
[Is that a popular color now? Well, whatever. He crosses his arms and nods in Kaneis' direction.] So why don't you dance with him?
no subject
[she's trying to be aloof and cool about this... but she's... starting to get more awkward than apathetic, what with all of the questions. it's hard to make excuses under all of this scrutiny!]
Well, I... Don't want to. So there.
