[And the night has arrived! Dorian put out an open invitation, and anyone who is interested is welcome to dress up and meet up for a night of dancing and fawning over each other. Make sure to wear your best, everyone! It's a very special episode of Drift Fleet!]

((OOC: There was an open invitiation, but even if your character never replied or has had personal contact with Dorian, feel free to assume he's let them come along or be dragged along by someone else! I'll be tagging some threads, but if you want a thread to be closed, please just say so in the header.))

HELLO DEAR

[Dorian flits about the party, imagining himself as much of a serpent as is printed on his robe. It's a ruse, like everything else about him, and when he spots Nunnally, he pauses. He had no idea she had need of something like the chair, and he frowned a bit. Well, he couldn't very well ask her to dance.

He approaches, sauntering toward her, and drops own to a knee with an extravagant bow, and then smiles up at her.]

Miss Nunnally, good to see you could make it. Your dress is quite charming.

[ah! She starts, surprised by his approach, but quickly covers it with a slight smile. She picks up one corner of her dress and lifts it ever so slightly while dipping her head-- simulating a curtsy]

Do you like it? [haha, she picks at one of the buttons for a moment before she realizes she shouldn't fuss with it, and deliberately holds her drink with both hands again]

It arrived on the ship from the viewers. I wonder if I should send them some sort of thank you letter. [there's a tiiiiiny tinge of sarcasm in there]

[Dorian chuckles softly.]

I'm certain just seeing you in it is all the thanks they could want for.

[hehe, she looks him up and down]

You look quite dashing. Where were you able to find clothes that matched the style of your world?

[serpentis]

I had them made. It would seem, on a moon devoted to vanity, there are many ambitious tailors. I asked shortly after we arrived.

[He smiles a bit, standing so she can see the full extent of his outfit, the gold ink printed snake coiled around him.]

I've been planning this gala since we arrived, you see.

[it is a nice outfit, so she gently claps her right hand against her drink, it's the closest thing to applause that she can do. And she really does hope that it's seen as a genuine motion! Nice fashion should be appreciated :')]

Planning this whole party..l What was your end goal with this party? Do you just really enjoy gatherings like this? [not as if she thinks that he has an ulterior motive to this party, but many people enjoy different aspects]

[He notes the gesture, and smiles a bit. She was a very gentle girl, and nice to speak with. She was charming, in her own way. A bit like Josephine, if Lady Montilyet were a touch more innocent.]

Perhaps I just enjoy a party, perhaps I have ulterior motives.

[He says it, the smirk evident in his voice, and then he chuckles.]

I thought perhaps we might have good use of a night to prance about and show ourselves off. I am a terribly vain man, you see, and I rather enjoy useless frippery. It suits me.

[hehe] Mm, yes I can tell. Quite vain! [she's tries to make it obvious that she's joking, so she laughs lightly and smiles]

Well, despite your ulterior motives... Thank you. Everyone seems to be having a truly wonderful time. It was a kind thing to do. [and even if she's being a downer, she wants to take the time to make sure that people who do nice things are appreciated]

[The problem with Dorian is that when people call him things like that- nice, kind- when they compliment him on his morals, on his character, rather than his looks or his studies, he can't let it sink in. It feels odd, wrong, and he knows that though he often does the right thing, and sometimes the wrong thing for the right reasons, he's not the best person.

Possibly one of the better men in Tevinter. But outside of that den of serpents?

So he scoffs and waves a hand dismissively.]

It was not kind. I assure you, it was entirely selfish. It drove business to my little side project as they all came clamboring for makeup and haircuts.

[a funny smile pulls at the corners of her mouth, but she just replies with an 'aah' sort of noise. It's true, she doesn't know him well, and shouldn't make bold claims. If it's something that is true (which her gut tells her it is, but...) then it will surely come up at a later date. So she lets the matter drop]

Your run a hair styling business? [ooh... she's so impressed with people doing business on the side] Is it a hobby of yours?

More like a public service.

[Dorian chuckles. THE SHADE.]

We do have some travelling companions with... interesting traditions when it comes to hair style and color.

Indeed. Charming, in an odd way, for some. For others, well. I am here for a reason, it would seem.

[He smiles.]

Thank you. [she sheepishly touches her own hair] I'm certainly used to taking better care of it back home... The showering situation here leaves something to be desired.
