[And the night has arrived! Dorian put out an open invitation, and anyone who is interested is welcome to dress up and meet up for a night of dancing and fawning over each other. Make sure to wear your best, everyone! It's a very special episode of Drift Fleet!]

((OOC: There was an open invitiation, but even if your character never replied or has had personal contact with Dorian, feel free to assume he's let them come along or be dragged along by someone else! I'll be tagging some threads, but if you want a thread to be closed, please just say so in the header.))

[her face gets a little red as she starts getting minor worked up. SHE BUSTED ASS FOR THIS BOTTLE.....]

The bet! When I first woke up here we made a bet if this place was real or not!

Oh...

[yep, it takes a second, but all of the pieces suddenly click together a moment later. he does remember, and an abrupt grin marks the moment!]

--Oh! Yes! Excellent... So, I suppose this is where I get to say 'I told you so.'

Yeah yeah, geez I shouldn't have said anything. [she sits down heavily in a chair that's close by]

Since you're 'Mr. Who Knows What's Going On', what is this party even for?

[he settles where he stands as if they're good acquaintances, perfectly comfortable.

and once he takes a glance to make sure that no guards are looking their way, he opens the thermos again and swirls the contents, taking another sniff.]

The same thing that every party is for. Someone wanted to show off, and pretend for a night that the world is perfect.

[and then he... offers the thermos in her direction?]

[hm? she shakes her head]

I'm not old enough. [ah... although they are in crazy space, and as she says it she knows it's a dumb reason. So she shrugs as well] And it was cheap, so it probably tastes like crap.

[and something about that makes him laugh--quietly but kind of suddenly.]

...Would you like to know a secret?

[....the suddenness makes her look at him directly, although he doesn't seem to be holding her breath for a great revelation]

Sure.

I don't drink either.

[and he holds up that thermos, which he'd bet for and so soundly won, in a mock toast.]

W-What? Then why would you ask for that?

So you would come find me again, and we could talk.

I'd originally assumed we would have a drink together, you see.

[and he smiles, lightly, as if this could be considered normal in any way at all.]

[she's just like..... squinting at him, unsure of what he's up to. After a measured pause she replies with]

You know, it my world they make informational videos about people like you. "Don't accept presents from shady strangers. So no to drugs, kids."

[but if the sentiment is true, it's actually kind of sweet. So despite saying that]

Fine, I'll try a bit.

You were the one who approached me with illicit substances first, you know. Maybe I'm the one who should be wary of you.

[he's joking, of course, and hands the thermos her way.]

...So, how disappointed were you when your life wasn't returned to normal after a week?

[this is by far the weirdest and yet the most normal conversation she's had in a long time?]

Pretty disappointed. [but she shrugs, and as she heads towards a certain topic a certain glittering determination can be seen in her expression] But there's no sense in dwelling in disappointment. You kind of just have to trust that this is part of fate, and make it work in your favor.

[hmm... she grimaces as she takes a sip and passes it back] Maybe I'll find a crazy laser gun here, or I can bring weapons from the fleet to blow up Haven before it ever existed. That ending would be worth the detour.

[ah, and he likes that look. the words that go along with it just make it even better.

he pauses to think something over as he takes a sip of the drink. his own grimace is much more subtle--purely over the taste. he's used to much sweeter drinks.]

It sounds like a resonable goal to me. ...And, you're one to put stock in fate, are you?

[offering the thermos back in her direction.]

[she can't help but wrinkle her nose at the offer but she nods as she takes it. It kind of just... makes this conversation make sense.]

Yeah. I think everything has a purpose. Or it can, if you do work hard enough.

[it's a twisted view of fate, but it's hers and she says that with conviction that comes from talking about a belief that has been held for years. She coughs at the seconds swing and holds it back to him]

What do you think? [it's not a question that implies that his view will change her own, she's just curious]

[he doesn't often make a habit of drinking with minors, but every once in a while, it just fits.

so, he continues the round, taking the thermos from her again.]

I think that there aren't enough people who think that way. I believe that the idea of simple luck is a myth.

[and he takes a little sip, but mostly uses the thermos to gesture with as he speaks.]

Where I'm from, there were once even entire temples built to Fate. And it was all forgotten somewhere along the way, until people stopped believing in the concept at all.

[she leans forward, elbow resting on the table and her chin resting on the back of her hand]

Really? No one wanted to believe that there was a plan watching over them?

[It's always been a thought that gives her great comfort, it's weird to think that an entire culture would abandon it so completely]

Mhmm. [and he eyes the liquid in the thermos as he swirls it around, as if the conversation means nothing to him.]

You see, Fate had a name in my world, and she had guardians that helped carry out her bidding. They were visible proof that she existed.

...When they disappeared, however, everyone lost faith in the idea.

[huh, this conversation took an interesting and unexpected turn. Ringo look right at him, obviously interested in his story]

What kind of guardians?

[and before he can respond another thought occurs to her] Did something happen to her?

[...and he hadn't exactly expected her to seem interested. so, this is a pleasant surprise indeed. he is more than happy to delve into greater detail.]

Oh, they were grand, mighty creatures. It was once considered a blessing to even lay eyes on one of them.

But, she and her creatures were attacked, and the guardians were locked away for many decades. Mankind's memory is very short. In only a couple of generations, man forgot and became jaded, and belief faded into myth.

[he finishes with a little shrug.]

[People. She looks distant for a second as she thinks about a lot of things at once. Dad getting married, everyone turning against the Takakuras without seeing them, people at Haven running around like chickens with their heads cut off...

She leans back in her chair and sighs heartily]

People sure can be stupid sometimes.

Yes, they can.

[and he nods in her direction a little.]

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders, though. It's refreshing to see.

[she blinks in surprise and raises an eyebrow. Huh... she doesn't get told that very often, at least not back home. Maybe it's a sign that she's growing up a bit? Either way, she looks a bit pleased]

Thanks. [there's a moment's hesitation before she replies] You seem pretty interesting too.[not what he said, Ringo, but okay]

We should chat again, and not at some weird party. [it seems like she wasn't decided on that idea before this conversation]

[he'll take being called interesting over sensible any day. the compliment is appreciated.]

Yes. I would like that.
