Likewise. [There's little call to talk about those old games now, besides. Erik can't remember the last time he even discussed one. He plucks the toy out of the water, and tosses it to Charles.]

Did you see the food in here?

Hm? All junk food from the looks of things. The kind my students would like to eat day and day out. Why?

[exothermia]

It's real food, even if it's junk. [He's going back in for another duck.]

[axiomed]

I suppose I can't discount that.

[ He's not particularly motivated though. Food is food and Charles no longer cares all that much for what he eats. ]

[exothermia]

It's noteworthy. [In terms of what the norm is. For Erik's part, he doesn't care much either. He's eaten the proteins almost exclusively since coming back.]

Even if it is all rubbish.

[axiomed]

I can't deny that. Anniversaries must be quite the event here.

[exothermia]

That is the idea behind them. [He's distracted, aiming for a yellow duck that keeps bobbing away from his hook.]

[Erik could, because he still distrusts what could be behind it. It's a vague feeling at best, though, with no real ire. And he's here anyway.

Another duck is retrieved, and Erik hands it over to Charles to join the first one.]

[ He blinks in surprise before looking up at Erik. ]

[Charles is now the duck depository, sorry. Erik sighs before shoving the rod back out to look for another duck.]

Can you imagine having to supervise this game for a living?

It could be fun. There's plenty of enjoyment to be had in watching the frustrations of others.

Are you speaking from experience?

I do run a school.

[exothermia]

[Speaking of, Charles receives another duck. This one's orange. Now he has three.]

I'm sure I can trust you to keep it a secret.

[ He keeps them on his lap, hoping they don't fall over. He was running out of space. ]

I'm afraid I'll have to write a letter to every parent.

[Erik rubs at his chin, observing the duck pool. He isn't certain what number of ducks he's aiming for. The prize board wasn't all that interesting, beyond a few suspicious looking items like "Photo" and "Lucky Dip".]

That's a lot of effort to invest in.

Mmm. Perhaps it's overkill.

[axiomed]

I would say it definitely is.

[ Glancing at the pond, Charles adds. ] You're becoming an expert at this.

That's hardly a compliment. [An expert at hooking plastic ducks isn't something to aspire to.]

Nonsense. This is the level of mastery children can only dream of.

Five year olds, maybe.

[He slots the fishing rod back into the stand with the others, finally. The duck hunt is at an end.]
