You are cordially invited to Cisco and Winn's Not-Too-Terrifying Halloween Costume Party!

[ on the night of the 28th, the lecture hall will open its gates though it'll look remarkably different. Winn and Cisco would have decorated the corridors leading to it with Jack-o'-lanterns made from the pumpkins gathered at the little patch on the planet. The hall itself will be similarly decorated, along with other traditional scary Halloween decorations made from paper and fabric ( don't ruin the little paper spiders, they took hours to make! ). There will be music from various times of Earth-1 and Earth-3, so don't be surprised to find Lady Gaga playing alongside the Spice Girls! Feel free to make requests or otherwise, just show your skills on the dance floor!

There will be a bar run by Nami offering free sodas, though you'll have to pay for your own alcohol ( remember, don't drink and fly! ). Alongside the bar, characters will find a few tables offering candy from Earth-1 won by Cisco at the game room with a little sign reading TAKE ONE, LEAVE SOME FOR OTHERS and quite a lot of space chips and protein dips as well as various candy from all over the different planets ( cleverly hoarded by Winn! ) and a large selection of pumpkin pies and pumpkin treats. Characters will also find a line leading to Cisco's trusty ice cream machine, though it'll only offer peanut butter flavored sorbet.

At the corner of the hall there will be a karaoke machine with a little sign-up sheet. Characters could sign up solo or in groups and list the song they'd like to sing. Keep in mind though, the entire hall will be able to hear your rendition of Sexy and I Know it!

Adventure-seeking characters will be able to follow signs reading HAUNTED HOUSE and reach a large hall that was turned into a maze by large cardboard blocks painted black or covered by dark fabrics. Making it out of the maze won't be too hard and the maze itself won't be too frightening but will be mildly startling. It'll include some nifty engineered animatronics of witches, scarecrows, scary clowns and skeletons as well as holograms of ghosts! The song featured in the invitation will also be heard here, on repeat. It's a good break from the dancing and for some private conversations and moments.

Remember, costume are mandatory! you don't want to be caught by tonight's pumpkin kings, do you? ]

[ If her eyebrows climb any higher, she's not going to have any anymore. ]

[ Now that her initial fright has settled down and she no longer feels so much like her heart is about to hammer its way out of her chest, the urge to snark right back at him flows a little more freely. ]

You said it yourself: charming.

[he gives her hip a little pinch before he pulls away, hands slipping into his pockets. he tilts his head and eyes the entrance to the haunted house, nose wrinkled]

[Kaito don't be mean!!]

But I'd be willing to give it a try, if you're too afraid to go alone.

That was sarcasm, you idiot.

[ She gives him a quick jab with her broom – and then another for his comment about the maze. ]

Kaito! Don't be mean. They must've spent a lot of time on this! [ The look she gives him is Grade-A Dirty. ] Besides, it's not like you could do any better.

[this time, he takes the jab, lifting a hand to rub his ribs where she got him afterwards.]

Haunted houses aren't my specialty! And I wasn't trying to be mean.

[grumble grumble]

If you don't have anything nice to say about somebody else's hard work, keep your mouth shut. [ So there, you big butt of a boyfriend. ]

But, you know, I bet you'd make a great attraction in there. We could put some wings on you and call you a cockroach; everyone'd run screaming.

[ … Apparently "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all" doesn't apply when Aoko feels like bullying him. ]

You're really scraping the bottom of the insult barrel, if you're falling back on ones you've used before.

[nevertheless, he reaches for her hand and gives it a tug as he nods at the haunted house in all of its Halloween-y glory]

[ Like he's any more original!! ]

[ With a long, heartfelt (not really) sigh, she twines her fingers loosely through his and bumps her hip against him. ]

Lead the way.

[HE IS EXTREMELY ORIGINAL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!]

[the noises of the party die down as they slip into the haunted house area, though it isn't completely silent thanks to the annoying Halloween music playing on repeat. Kaito gives Aoko's hand a light squeeze and continues to hold it as he walks towards the first bend in the maze]

Sooooo. . . having fun?

Hmm …

[ Contrary to her earlier sass and snark, Aoko's hum is distinctly thoughtful. She leans into him as they walk, companionably not-quite underfoot. ]

It's been a really long time since we last got to enjoy a proper party. I'm glad we came.

[she'll feel his thumb brush gently over her knuckles as they walk. nothing's leaped out at them just yet, although there's some light flickering just ahead of them. Kaito seems unconcerned]

Hn. . . a proper party that didn't have some kinda ulterior motive, anyway. Be it memories, or to provide energy for an Echo, or. . .

[he trails off, also thoughtful]

Feels weird, doesn't it?

[ Aoko, on the other hand, tenses just a tiny, tiny bit, barely noticeable save for a slight stiffening in her shoulders. ]

Weird … [ Another hum, this one lower. ] That's a word for it, yeah. But it's not a bad feeling, for the most part.

Heh. . .! Definitely not. Just takes some getting used to, s'all.

[he flashes her a grin, visible even in the darkness. he could totally get behind "fun for fun's sake," honestly]

[also as they approach the flashing light a HOLOGRAM GHOST SUDDENLY POPS OUT IN FRONT OF THEM!! oooooooooooo. . . spooky. . .]

[ HOW … TERRIFYING … ]

[ Aoko kinda twitches a bit, but (fortunately?!) that's the extent of her reaction. ]

It's ... kind of cute ...?

[FORTUNATELY!! . . . Kaito doesn't react at all (always smooth, that poker face of his), and just. ducks underneath the ghost, even though it's a hologram and he could just damn well walk right through it]

Since when have ghosts been cute?

Wah! Kaito! That's ghostist.

[ That's a word, right? Right. It's also absolutely, definitely a nice distraction from how silly she feels for being startled by a dumb hologram ]

Plenty of ghosts are cute. Haven't you ever heard of Casper?

What? You made that word up!

[he says with a scoff as he leads her further down the haunted house's makeshift hallway. at least he isn't picking on her for being startled??? but there is something else moving underneath a black cloth up ahead. . .]

And 'course I've heard of Casper, but I wouldn't call him "cute."

Fine, then I'll just say you're prejudice against ghosts! You should be ashamed of yourself.

[ It's really, horribly tempting to pick Kaito up and throw him at it. ]

[ But because she's still feeling nice for far, she refrains, instead settling for tightening her grip on his hand and on her broom. ]

What would you call him, if not cute?

[. . . THROWING HIM AT A JUMP SCARE WOULD TOTALLY RUIN THE MOMENT. at any rate, he has long since noticed the stiffness in her stance, and he shoots her a concerned sideways glance even as he gladly snarks back at her]

[ That's blatantly untrue, throwing him at a jumpscare would be a memory for the ages. She catches his glance and raises him a smile, lifting her eyebrows questioningly. ]

Round things are cute! It's a scientifically proven fact.

[he totally opens his mouth to argue with her, when suddenly--]

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

[that is the sound of a screaming witch animatronic jumping out from underneath the cloth that was moving earlier]

[the sound is SO LOUD and SO SUDDEN that it even gets Kaito to yelp in surprise and stumble back right into one of the boxes flanking the maze. it causes a couple to topple over on top of his head-- thank goodness they're only made of cardboard!!]

[the real problem here?]

[. . . he never let go of Aoko's hand, so he's probably taking her with him]

[ They yelp and a stumble in stereo, and combined with Kaito's grip on her hand – it's pretty much a recipe for a flailing, uncoordinated disaster. ]

W-Waaaaah!

[ Aoko falls, half toppling with her own poor balance and half yanked down by Kaito, landing with an oomph right on top of him. Her knees and-or elbows may end up digging into unfortunate places. ]

["unfortunate places" being his ribs, of course. he wheezes painfully, head covered by a box and voice muffled, as he tries to squirm to escape]

Ack! Can't breathe, can't breathe. . .!

[this is so dignified]

G, Geez, Aoko's not that heavy …

[ There's more than a hint of whine in Aoko's voice as she struggles to extricate herself, shoving boxes this way and that to clear the way. ]

Are you okay?

[ She pauses once she's managed to sit up, carefully plucking the box of Kaito's head. ]
