[McCoy has a blanket wrapped around his shoulders when the broadcast flips on; he's still cold, by God, and he's not above looking a bit silly in an effort to warm up. There's unoffensive music playing in the background and McCoy's eyebrow is fairly twitching in time to it.]

Two questions, for whoever's listening. [He's read everything he can get his hands on, but some things are better from people he can actually question. He holds up his index finger.] Where in the hell are we? I can't make heads or tells of what I'm seein' here.

[He holds up a second finger.] Where can I get a drink? Doesn't have to be good; it just has to burn.

[ McCoy has the right idea, because it is cold and nothing like how it gets chilly in Georgia. The music playing nonstop is a little creepier than total silence would be. Not one to stay still in an unfamiliar place, Carl takes to roaming what parts of the Marsiva he can get to. Which is how he comes across McCoy.

Carl doesn't encroach his space, keeping distance, still holding the piece of ship that he managed to break off. It's probably not very threatening even if he were a threat right now. ]

How can you be sure someone's listening? It might be static.

[ He's still not convinced that this is real. ]

[This kid needs to sit down and take a breath. McCoy's not exactly relaxed himself, but at least he's not carrying around bits of the ship. He shrugs one shoulder at the question.]

I can't be but this is a sort of technology that I'm used to. There's no indication that the call's not going somewhere.

[ No you sit down!! It's all well and good that someone on this ship is acting only moderately inconvenienced by this, but he's freaking out a little on the inside. No walkers are good, though... But it's weird. All of this is insane. ]

Who do you think is listening? Just the other ships outside?

[Look, kid, it's not his first rodeo.

... or his first kidnapping, go figure.]

Safer to assume anybody in range is listening.

Do you know how far the range is? It can draw attention to people you don't want to hear, too.

[ Well at least someone's ridden this horse before. ]

I don't. I'm familiar with technology like this but not this system exactly. [He shrugs.] Gotta take that risk if I have any chance of contacting anyone friendly.

How can you tell? All I could see out the window are a bunch of stars.

Any ship out here has to be equipped with communications of some sort. Unless there's some active jamming going on, somebody's getting what I sent out eventually.

Do you think that's what happened? Or might we get lucky?

We're not lucky, but at least it's a start.

No, I guess not with being here. At least we're not dead yet.

[ There's always the possibility. Maybe they're going to die when they leave this ship. WHO KNOWS. ]

[Wow, a kid after his own heart. It's mildly disturbing.]

You got a name, kid? [That Pessimistic Kid With a Makeshift Weapon seems a long moniker.]

[ McCoy don't open up that can of worms, you will be horrified. ]

Well, Carl. Nice to meet you, I guess. I'm Dr. McCoy.

Yeah, sure. [ Sorry if he looks a little skeptical. ] What kind of doctor are you?

[You go right ahead and be as skeptical as you want, kid.] Medical. Trauma surgeon and pathologist, in point of fact.

[ He knows an apocalypse in the market for one of those if you're interested. ] Lucky us.

What do you mean by that, kid?

If someone loses a limb or gets shot, you're a trained doctor.

[ They haven't been so lucky to have one of those, lately. Hershel had been a vet, at least. ]

You're a hell of an optimist, kid. But yeah, say someone loses a limb. I can probably help in that situation.

[ He shrugs. ] Shit happens. You do what you need to survive.

[ Sometimes you just have to lose a leg so you don't turn into a walker. IT HAPPENS. ]

I'll give you that. Look, you need anything, you call me, right?

I'll be fine, but I'll let you know.

[ Hell, someone else may need him, and it doesn't hurt to know a doctor, right? ]

You don't know what'll happen, how fine you'll be when shit starts going down.
