Hey, um... [He rubs the back of his neck, trying to figure out how to say this]

Listen, I know lots of people have been having problems. You know, like trouble with the gravity or powers switching or water splashing, or...other stuff. People are saying it's the augments, but...

[He swallows] Truth is, it's me.

Something's up with my powers and they're setting off on their own. I'm working on getting them to stop, and I know anything that happens will probably wear off after awhile. I mean, it usually does! Not that it fixes anything or excuses it, but-

[He stops himself with a sigh. This is not what he wanted to say. He clears his throat and tries again]

I'm sorry. That's all what I wanted to say. I'm sorry. For all of it.

[And with that, he reaches over and turns off the feed

[ he nods, he has so many issues with the augments, he'll blame them for anything. but this one, well, it fits. ]

Uh...no, but I only had this for a year before I got here, so I'm still kinda learning 'em.

[That's personal Winn! There's a pause where he looks positively uncomfortable about telling a perfect stranger that story, and there's even a sound coming from off-screen that sounds like something shattering.

Right after that, he seems to opt just to focus on the second question.]

They're "Enlighten" powers. There's these creatures back home, called Pokemon? Anyway, they all got powers, and they can be really strong. But sometimes there's humans born with the same kinda powers.

People usually get 'em younger, I was just ... a late bloomer, I guess.

Pokemon, as in - gotta catch 'em all? [ so tempted to dig his phone out and play the theme song right now. good job, he's completely forgotten the first question for the moment. ]

Ahhh cute little -- pocket monsters, electric, fire, water, rock, ground, grass, bug, poison, ghost, psychic, fighting, flying, steel, ice, dragon, dark, fairy, like to battle?

[ all comes out very quickly. his hand twitches at his phone. and he was being a serious responsible adult just a second ago, dammit. the power of nerd is always stronger! ]

[.... Oh boy. Maybe this guy knows someone that's from the distant past like Nightingale does, because that sure sounds like it matches up. Yeah, that sounds like the most plausible explanation to Sora. ]

Yeah okay, that's them. [It's pretty impressive this guy can just name all the types off like that...]

But I wouldn't say they fit in your pocket? And they really don't like it if you capture them just to fight your battles. Okay?

Yeah, that sounds more realistic. [ even if his inner child is dying a little inside. so all those it's animal fighting and it's wrong arguments were right. well, at least where he's from, they're only cartoon. ]

Wait, they don't? I thought that was the whole point of the name - you catch them in a pokeball and carry them around in your pocket...guess the inter-dimensional hive mind connection has some kinks to work out...[ that last part is almost muttered to himself, it's one of his many theories - about how things that exist as a reality in one world exist as fiction in another. ]

[there's a pause and there's a look while he's both trying to figure out what Winn's getting at, and thinking the guy's pretty bizarre

Oh right, those things! Yeah, I guess a pokeball could make 'em fit in your pocket...

But no one's really used that tech for long time? Least, where I'm from. They're ... really ancient.

[ that's a totally fair assessment. ]

What do people use where you're from? Or have they stopped with the catching?

[ yes, morally it would be better if they stopped with the catching. but the geek within him is so excited to hear about the fantastic tech that replaced pokeballs! ]

Well ... We use Warp Bands! They're- [He pauses and gestures as if he was going to show it on his wrist, but then he notices he's not wearing it] - Oh right, I left it in my quarters. But they're these bracelet-wrist-watchy kinda things!

Anyway, with a Warp Band you can talk to Pokemon, so you can try to convince 'em to join your side. If you do, you can then use it to teleport them to and from the Pokemon Habitat - which is basically like a much bigger version of the fox park.

People call it "bonding" instead of catching, but it serves the same purpose. Just ... less forcing Pokemon to serve you.

That's awesome, you can actually have conversations? [ maaan he wants one! and a pokemon buddy! ] So people who have their powers, it just happens? And they can have the full range, or just a few specific types? Is it one power per person? [ why did he reply to this guy again? something about a glitch? oh, who can remember! ]

For a few minutes, yeah! You can try it out sometime if you want. [Because showing potentially powerful tech to a guy he just met seems like a great idea!!!]

[But yeah he's getting the feeling this guy's totally forgotten about what's going on. Which you know what, he can live with that. Better than having to apologize a millionth time to someone]

Uh ... basically? Every place's got their own beliefs for why it happens, but all that's for sure is it started happening after the fall. [he didn't care what the answer was really, that sorta talk usually went over his head.] And most Enlighten get powers from one or two types along with an extra small ability ... you know, like a Pokemon.

Really? Don't play with me --

[ it'll break his heart to shreds if that promise isn't lived up to!

hey, look, if he's keeping him calm supposedly that's helpful, right? so let's just keep talking about awesome things! this logic is flawless! ]

What's the fall?

Yeah, really! The teleporting mechanic doesn't work here, and I don't really need the talking thing, so not like I'm using it.

[It's just gathering dust at this point.]
