[ the video feed turns on to a child, no more than ten. he doesn't say a word at first and spends a few minutes curiously poking and prodding, shuffling the communication device around. he opens his mouth wide and the camera gets a nice view of his tonsils.

there are more pokes and shuffling when it's his full face again. ] This is so new and weird, it must be from the Core. I've never seen anything like this before...!

[ he yells into it. ]

Hello! Is this thing working? Where is this ship heading?

[ ACTION; on paisley ]
[ he has to be very quiet. and he's good at being quiet. he's snuck around watto so many times now, sneaking around is practically a honed skill. it's really cold here, though, and he's not used to that at all.

as he makes his way through paisley, he tries to find the warmest spot on the ship. he bumbles through the kitchen quietly, trying not to get caught by anyone that might be in there. and he eventually ends up finding the crew rooms. he doesn't know who's is who's. all he knows is he's in space, onboard a ship traveling in space! off tatooine! he enters the first room and wraps himself in the blankets found there. hopefully no one misses their blankets.

he takes off with the makeshift wrap and works his way through the rest of ship, making quiet pitstops here and there. he marvels at the pilot station, gawks at the engineering lab a bit then scurry quickly to the cargo bay where it's big and spacious and no one could possibly find a kid there. ]

[ oh. this man - watto must have sold him then. this must be his new master. he ducks his head a little. ]

I'm in a room. It has a lot of scrap metal on the floor. I woke up here! [ in case his new master thought he wandered around ] Is this supposed to be my room, sir?

[ Obi-Wan winces. He had hoped that there'd be some small spark of recognition, but that seems unlikely. ]

It is your room. It belongs to you.

I have my own room... Wow

. [ he contains his excitement for a more important question ]

Uhm. Can I ask you another question? Where's my mom?

[ Obi-Wan stops to a dead halt. He should have expected that question and yet the simplicity of it stalls him completely. No cleverly worded answer seems to come and he knows every second he wastes thinking about it would only feed into Anakin's unease. ]

She's - all right. She's waiting for you on Tatooine. You'll be back there soon.

Oh. [ that's disappointment in his voice, but he feels somewhat relieved at the same time. thanks obi-wan. ]

I'm going back to Tatooine. Why am I even here now if I have to go back anyway?

[ whines ]

[ He tries to keep talking as he moves. ]

It's a temporary . . . mistake.

[ Please let it be temporary. ]

[ a loud huff ]

I guess that makes sense...

[ who wants a scrawny little slave boy. ]

I'm a good mechanic! If you let me stay, I can fix your droids or any parts you need repair.

[ His lips twitch despite himself. ]

I'm sure you are.

Either way, you'll have to stay here for a little while before we can go back to Tatooine. Is that all right?

[ another little huff. ] Yeah, that's okay...

Can you take me to see the stars though? I've never seen them from a starship before. Please?

[ He pauses, but his answer comes soon enough. ]

All right. I'm bringing a shuttle over.

[ They were currently orbiting small waystations. Nothing much, but they boast large windows and bright nebulas. ]

[ he grins brightly. a large window and bright nebulas is more than enough to distract a child for a while. ]

Okay! I passed by a cargo bay earlier, I'll wait for you there!

Excellent.

[ and he arrives promptly, straightening his robes as he surveys the cargo bay. He tries not to look anxious, but Obi-Wan is quite sure that he's going to be able to keep a perfectly cool head. Honestly, Anakin, when he was younger, seems like a distant memory and hard to reconcile with the man who always had his back.

Obi-Wan feels oddly bereft. ]

Anakin?

[ he was excited to meet this man. he seemed to know a lot and he was kind, although he was a bit weird.

anakin hops off the crate he was sitting on and jogs up to obi-wan. ]

You're here! [ he looks up and kinda wish he was taller right then. ] Are you my new master?

I am a master of sorts

[ No point confusing Anakin with the truth. ]

I'm a Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Whoa!

[ a jedi. a real jedi! he can barely contain his excitement and he doesn't bother to, has no reason to restrain himself. his fists gathers at his chest level and he looks up at obi-wan with expectation and hope. ]

You must have been all over the galaxy!

I have even been to wild space.

[ Not that he'll be sharing those stories. They were fairly traumatic. Still, he smiles, trying to look as unimposing as possible. ]

And you can be one too, someday.

You think I could be a Jedi too!?

[ he has dreams about this. an angel from deep space and a jedi, coming to free people of tatooine from the hutts. ]

Sometimes, I dream about that. I'm holding one of your light swords or I'm flying in the fastest starship. And someone's making me laugh! Even though I don't think I should be laughing...

I'm sure you'll become a Jedi soon enough.

[ Sooner than he thinks. He watches Anakin with bemusement. ]

[ his nose wrinkles ]

Watto has to be willing to sell me first. And my mother. There's no way he'll let go of two slaves.

[ Obi-Wan knew that all too well. ]

We'll find a way, Anakin.

[ he stares at obi-wan for a moment, then shifts restlessly ]

Can you take me to see the stars now? Please?

Of course. I have a shuttle nearby that can take us to the station. Just follow me.

[ he looks uneasily at obi-wan but follows along ]

Can I pilot? I'm a good pilot too, you know.

. . . Maybe not just yet.

Aw, man.
