[Tyrion, on the other hand, rarely eats at all. He's as thin as a cat, but he's fine with that. He can subside on coffee and books, after all. He hobbles in, early one evening, nodding at the young man sitting there experimenting with food gel.]

I think you'll find you want to put in a bit more of the red paste, if you are looking for a kick.

[Kaidan eyes Tyrion as he enters, but keeps most of his focus on his cooking. He hasn't much of chance to speak to the man since he's been here, largely because Tyrion's been sequestered in engineering. Being the polite Canadian that he is, he's left his second captain to his own devices]

How much of a kick are we talking? On the scale of 'pleasant tickle' to 'someone just punched me in the solar plexus'?

[Tyrion puts a measure of sugar into his coffee, twirls it around, looking thoughtful.]

More like ... 'I have been suddenly slapped in the mouth but I enjoyed it'.

[He chuckles as he continues to stir]

That might depend on who did the slapping.

[That said, he'll reach over to the dispenser after a moment of deliberation and switches the mode to 'powder', letting a small amount fall into a small cup he had handy. Might as well make it interesting, he supposed.]

[He smirked again, as he sipped his coffee. Breathing in deep as he started to feel his brain awaken.]

I have become fond of it, with my time overseas and here.

Overseas? Where?

[He can't immediately place where Tyrion might be from, so he doesn't entirely make the assumption that it's something like India or South America]

The city of Meereen. Of course, I have only recently gotten to taste the local cuisine ... my former master was grudging of his food staples outside of gruel. [Tyrion mused, before he gestured around.] And of course, here, is a perfect example of how one must broaden one's culinary background.

[Kaidan takes these details in with careful consideration and doesn't answer until he click off the stove burner and moves to dump his concoction onto a waiting plate]

I haven't heard of Meereen, but it doesn't sound like you traveled there on vacation.

Yes and no. I had planned on travelling there to meet with Daenerys Targaryan. I was first, alas, kidnapped and then thrown into slavery, but then I was freed by the luck of a plague.

[He shrugged.] The Gods like to lead us to our fates through the hardest paths.

I don't know if I believe in gods, but...that feels more than a little bit true.

[He moves to the table and settles across from Tyrion. His plate bears something that looks and smells at least vaguely like a mild curry, and he stabs a fork into a bit of it]

...yes that's usually the way with gods. They feel a bit more true than anything else.
