[After the mystery and isolation of their last destination, the Marsiva seems determined to head to brighter, busier territory. After a long journey through remote, nebula-painted space, speeding along at a brisk pace for the Host ship, the Marsiva brings her Fleet to a sudden and prominent point of traffic.

It seems that the Fleet has happened upon some sort of vacation destination! Maybe Atroma thinks that the passengers deserve some rest and relaxation... or just wants to distract them with something huge and shiny.

Welcome to Hotel Corona! Feel free to enjoy yourselves and enjoy the sites! If a hotel resort isn't your thing, you can head on over to the nearby planet and explore it's icy wonders.

[ He shrugs, moving his chair. ]

I'm not sure we have a choice, given it belongs to the hotel.

[He picks up his bag, swinging it over his shoulder.]

How are you finding it?

[ Charles glances at Erik as he mulls over the question. ]

I guess it's . . . all right? I can't say I have any expectations either way.

[exothermia]

[Erik nods, satisfied with that. At least Charles is less on edge than he had been immediately after the attack. It's been a couple of weeks now, and the time off the ship seems to be doing him good.]

There's a cafe not far from here that I thought I'd try, if you want to come. It overlooks the beach.

[axiomed]

[ He hesitates briefly before nodding. ]

Why not? I do like cafes.

[exothermia]

All right. Let's go.

[Erik leads the way out of the meditation centre and across the walkways to the beachside cafe. The place is done up to look like a beach shack, with wooden furniture and fake palm fronds everywhere. Erik takes a table near the balcony, glancing at the plastic fruit jauntily placed on the railing with some amusement.]

It's a bit more excessive than I was expecting.

[Very normal.]

I am very glad to be adult again.

It is a space hotel.

[ He maneuvers his chair around, pushing one of the chairs aside. ]

I imagine they need to make up for it by having a little of everything.

I'm sure your friends are too.

They've certainly made an attempt that that.

So... you believe in heaven?

[ That's . . . a hard question to answer. ]

In a way. I suppose I believe that loss tends to go both ways.

It's like the Iskaulit in a way, but with a constant flow of visitors and changes. It makes me wonder what kind of places they've been to. What they've seen.

How difficult it must be, to keep moving.

[She frowns.]

I don't understand.

I think it must have hurt, to know they'd leave you behind. That's probably how they felt.

I don't know that this hotel moves far from the nebula... it's their reason for being here. [He sets the menu aside.] But you're right that everything would be transient here.

[It's the nature of a hotel, to never have permanent residents. Whether it's difficult or not... he's of mixed feelings.]

[axiomed]

I guess all of these places are. The ones that uproot us and put people into closed spaces.

I'm sure about that. I'm not sure I'll be inviting them along for a while, though.

That's for the best, I imagine.

Mmm. Only this one does its own uprooting every few weeks.

I suppose that lends it some predictability.

[exothermia]

In a way, yes. [Not as constant as games, but it's a regular marker. An event that's expected, part of the fabric of the place.] Whatever the reason for it is.

[ A waiter comes with his tea and Charles calmly takes a sip of it, watching Erik. They've had this discussion before, but they're both feeling the strain of it. The hotel helps, a little, but not by much. ]
