[While they're at the resort this month Apollo's been juggling a dozen jobs--but he actually comes back to the ship every day! He still sleeps there, and right now, anyone can catch him on the sad lone treadmill.

Today tho, as he walks, he seems to be..........nodding off? Yep, he is definitely nodding off. Someone wake your lawyer up before he falls on his face on the treadmill.]

[...how about Nami breaks his fall with a hand planted indelicately in his face as he starts to slide. Will that work? V. delicate, v. caring.]

Maybe you should try sleeping somewhere more comfortable.

[SUCH GENTLE, VERY EFFECTIVE. Apollo snaps awake with a startled yelp, grabbing the sides of the treadmill for balance]

--GAH! I wasn't sleeping, I was. . .meditating? Sure, yes.

This must be some new version of meditating I haven't heard of before. [Dryly. But at least she takes her hand back.] Then meditating some place you won't hurt yourself is probably a better idea.

How many jobs do you have right now?

. . .multitasking meditating. Great for lawyers on the run. [A light snort and he rubs at his head.]

Five so far. . .six if I count the one I'm not being paid for. I didn't mind at first but in retrospect, I probably should have protested a bit more.

Why do you need so many!?

I don't necessarily need them, but I also don't like being broke. Lawyers aren't exactly TV material, you know. [Aside from the occasional ratings boost due to having Too Many Feelings with Clay, he doesn't do squat to attract attention.]

I'm going to cash in my pay and stock up on some things before we leave. Besides that. . .it feels weird not to work after such a long stretch of time.

You still get a weekly stipend from them. Between that and one or two jobs, that'd be enough to get by surely. [Maybe lawyers are just. IDK used to living the high life. But feeling weird not to work she gets.]

If you want a regular job, I can help with that. Provided you're not a klutz. But working like a maniac every time we touch down on planet is gonna burn you pretty fast.

[Pfft, THAT'S A GOOD ONE. Apollo practically lived off ramen and sleeping in the office.] True, but finding suits in space isn't common or cheap. I've got to keep up appearances somehow!

But anyway, floating through a void of space is what's burning me out. Before I came here, I had 300+ clients waiting on me. . .the break was nice, but now I'm just fidgety. [He tilts his head, curious.] What did you have in mind, though?

[Apollo, that's just sad.]

I run one of the bars on the Iskaulit. It's busy work and rowdy, so if you ever want to, y'know, space out the work earning to more reasonable times, look me up.

Busy work is my middle name. We had to do something between cases back home, after all.

But. . .huh. I'll think about it, thanks. I've never actually been there, the bar I mean. Or most other places connected to the ships. I'm just getting to the point where I can look out windows without fainting.

[Grin.] I'm not crushed if you don't take me up on it. I'm just trying to find alternatives to you falling flat on your face, that's all.

...is it the space or the flying or both?

Thank you for implying that I wouldn't fall flat on my face in a bar. It'd probably happen.

But, uh. . .both. I hate heights, and floating around in dark voids isn't exactly my idea of a good time, either.

Join the club. Clay seems to be in the minority when it comes to people who do enjoy it. [But more power to him. It's hard to fault his enthusiasm.]

It does get easier. If that helps. Space travel wasn't even a concept in my world, and I'm doing fine now.

Even in my world, this is a bit fantastical. Astronauts that go into space are crazy prepped, just like Clay! Tons of safety precautions and procedures--we would never imagine being able to roam so freely like we do here!

Which you'd think would help me appreciate it more, but no. . .how long did it take you to adjust?

Hmm... a week or two. But I'm used to constant travelling and crazy stuff, so it helps.

T-that's a pretty quick turnaround time! I guess this was just a change of scenery for you. . .

I'm just a boring old lawyer. Anything outside my office is a bit too much for me.

This is also the second place I've been stuck, so I guess there's only so many times you can get shocked before you throw your hands up and just roll with it.

You work that much, huh? Ever take vacations?

I don't really qualify for vacation time at the moment. [Being the only lawyer in the country, sob.]

Wait, this isn't your first dimension hopping gig?

Nope. I was at a place called Adstringendum before this. It was on the ground, but they messed with your head a lot more. So all in all, this place is lightweight in comparison.

Okay you're at least the second person that's been somewhere else before. It's mildly terrifying to think we could just be scooped up and plopped into another universe just like that.

Try not so much the second as the fiftieth, probably. [She smiles wryly.] There are a lot of weird places out there. It lends credence to the idea that there's just one organisation transferring us around, though.

Don't get me wrong, though. There's plenty of people for whom this is a first time. I'm not sure if I envy them or think I'm better off.

[He practically goes pale at that]

N-no way. . .I don't have time to go on a multi dimensional cruise! I'm all for getting older and wiser and jaded as time goes on, but I'd like to do that in the comfort of my own apartment! You must be really homesick.

[Very homesick. But she puts up a hand.] Don't panic! I haven't heard of a single person who's gone from here to another of these places-- mostly people just seem to go home. So I don't think it'll happen to you.

You severely underestimate my bad luck.

Ugh. But you're right, no use of panicking. At the moment, I'm stuck in space, and it is what it is.
