Hello everyone. I know this is rather sudden, but this Saturday I've rented out a space in the Hotel to hold a Holiday Party for the Fleet. It seems that a lot of worlds have celebrations around this time of year, and I thought it would be nice for us all to get together and share them, and just be able to enjoy each other's company in a space that feels less like a sardine can. Even if you don't celebrate anything, please come and grace us with your company.

The party will start at 7, but by all means come as you can. There will be a buffet and a bar - please get yourself a hotel room and not use the shuttles to go home if you do drink, by the way.

So come out and enjoy yourselves. I hope to see you there.

Saturday - The Party
<sub>[ The party is held in a large and spacious club-like space, but it is well lit and there is a mix of small tables and an open area for dancing set up. Music drifts over some speakers, with a pre-selected list already programmed in, and not so loud that one couldn't talk to your neighbor, but loud enough to sway to the beat if you desired. The space is decorated in tones of white and gold, a touch of festivity without really nodding towards any one particular celebration.

A bar is staffed by two of the hotel bar tenders and alcohol is plentifully stocked along with non-alcoholic choices. The buffet ran along one wall, piled with meats, vegetables, fruits, and sweets - everything to suit anyone who might come.

Olympia. I've been to Seattle a few times, though. It's okay, I guess, but the weather really doesn't bum you out?

Fair enough. I don't know if I could do it.

I mean, I'm from London! The weather isn't exactly stellar over there either. And I can't say I make it south of Tacoma often, anything worth recommending in Olympia?

Can't say I've ever been to London. Is the weather as bad?

Not really, actually. It's pretty boring. I was planning on leaving for college soon, but... As you can see, a lot of bullshit got in the way.

It can get pretty gray, cold, and wet, but the football teams more than make up for it!

Well, there will be an end to the bullshit someday, presumably! Tertiary education is really where it's at, anyway!

Are we talking American football or everywhere else football?

Yeah, if we ever get out of here.

Proper football. The American game is fine, I guess, but it needs a new name, if you ask me.

I'm not really into either of them, so I have no horse in this race.

Sports enthusiasts are apparently sorely lacking amongst our population.

I bet you could find some if you tried. It might be like, weird alien sports, but still counts.

[arfvader]

But it doesn't matter if there are alien sports if I can't get a reliable broadcast and someone to watch it with.

Maybe the next place we go will have, like, an alien sports stadium. You can make friends there.

I can only hope I'll get converted to the superior team.

Just cheer for whichever one seems to be winning and you'll probably do fine.

It is not just about who's winning. It's about team culture and history and the fan-base!

It's not like you're going to be able to understand that every time we visit a random planet, though, is it?

... I guess I can live without sports. But video games and--

[He looks around surreptitiously and lowers his voice to a whisper.]

[a soft laugh, glancing towards the host for a moment]

It was coming out in like two months. I'm so mad.

[He looks absolutely delighted at her response!!! But an important distinction has to be made.]

Wait, are we talking "Trek" or "Wars"?

[robitussin]

Uh, Trek.

[she says that as if it's obvious, before the implications of the question hits her and her eyes widen.]

Wait, were they making a new Star Wars movie where you're from?

[arfvader]

Oh, young padawan, there is so much for you to look forward to.

[robitussin]

Oh my god. What year did it come out?

[arfvader]

[Are you ready for this, Opal? Are you sure you're ready for this level of geekery?]

2015! But I'm waiting on the newest movie which is due out around Christmas of 2016! Basically, ever since Disney got their gainful little hands on the franchise, we're expecting a new movie every year!

[she is literally dragging her hands down her face a little]

Ohhhhh they're making new Star Wars movies and I'm never going to see it. Was the first new one good?

[she is never this vocal about her own nerdery, but this is the Worst Fate and she can't help it.]

[arfvader]

Better than "those movies we shall not acknowledge" by a long-shot! I'd probably say it's better than "Return of the Jedi"!

[He is being so good about not telling her about the new characters being part of the fleet! Because spoilers are the worst.]

But you'll see it eventually, yeah? I mean, eventually you'll get to go home.

No, I'm going home with someone else from a very different universe where Star Wars isn't a thing.

[the most dramatic sigh. this is the hardest day of her life, clearly.]
