[If Nami sounds tinnier than usual on this audio feed, there's a good reason for that.] We're both still here. Luffy's here, too. Come home.

[And click. There's a series of beeps, and then it starts again-- this conversation, or the first fifteen seconds of it before she stops it again.  It's a recording.

Pause.

And playing it again.  It's safe to assume Nami doesn't know she's broadcasting, but the point becomes moot when there's a clatter and the voices cut off again.  We return you to your blessed silence.]

[So yeah, Nami's holed up in her room for the day.  She'd take the night off from bar work, only the Shuffle informs her Remy has gone, so she's down a staff member as is, but until then... taking some space.  She's not sure whether listening to old conversations is to make her feel better or just another form of twisting the knife-- can't work out which. 

Either way, eventually she addresses the network proper, because she may as well get some productivity out of this whole shit show.  Her voice runs hollow.  It wasn't a good night.]

This might be a stupid question-- I don't know.  Computers aren't my thing.  But you know, every planet we go to, it seems someone runs into trouble and needs a bail out.  That's par for the course, I know.   Happens all the time at home, too.

...in Adstringendum, our communicators had a built in-- GPS, I think it was called?  You just hit a button on your comm, and it'd send your coordinates to whoever you were talking to at the time.   People could go straight to where they were needed.  The Fleet comms don't have that, or at least not that I can find-- if someone's found it, point it out.  Like I said, computers aren't my thing. 

But if it's not on there, is someone tech-savvy enough to add it?  I just think it might help people out.  I see people put games on this thing all the time, so I figure it might be possible.  You could borrow my Adstring comm if it'd help.  [She still has it.  It's what she was listening to earlier.]

Anyway, just thought... I'd ask.

On a more simple note, the Space Bar is down a chef.  I guess that means I have a job opening.

[The enthusiasm just jumps off the page, doesn't it?  Another friend down.

Until evening, she'll be in her room.  And then she'll go into shift and be her usual cheery self.  Because when it comes to making money, she's always been able to fake it.

I've got one offer come in, but he's literally fresh off the boat-- might take a while to break him in, if he still wants the job. So a week would be pretty much perfect.

[Also, maybe assess this guy's skill in the kitchen, because "fresh off the boat" may also mean "wants to keep busy for the heck of it," rather than any actual cooking talent.]

I'll go mad if I don't keep myself occupied - and cooking is at least something I'm confident in continuing, even with the... concerning presentation of the kitchens around here. I'm sure I can make these gel-based supplies into something worthwhile.

I would be worried about being able to keep up, but the fleet is decently sized; I think it may be manageable. It's certainly better than living in New York or Los Angeles.

...well, if it helps, our kitchen is stocked with real food. It's not the healthiest stuff, given it's a bar, but it's a lot nicer than gels.

He hadn't commented on the initial accidental recording; it felt wrong to bring it up in that moment, where it seemed like she'd been revisiting something, recollecting. But not that he's had the chance, away from the Corsiva and the busy-work there:]

[Nami sees the worry and almost asks Sam what's wrong. Force of habit. But he's a canny guy, and she's not stupid. She probably sounds as tired as she feels.

She answers lightly. It's not important, but at least if she picks up her mood a bit, he can stop looking at her like that.] Your computer savvy extends that far, huh? I didn't know how complicated it would be to do.

He frowns, and he can't help but be pretty on the cuff when it comes to concern.]

[Vash was going to message Nami and let her know he could cover some extra hours tonight, but when he hears the recording over and over again he decides to give Nami some space for the moment instead.

So when she shows up at work he's already there even though he wasn't schedule. He turns his head with a smile and waves when she comes in.]

Hey Nami, you doing alright?

[She's fine. Look, here she is at work turning up all smiles and cheer, though it wavers in surprise when she sees Vash.]

Great! I wasn't expecting you in-- [--oh. Of course, Vash isn't stupid either, no matter how much he acts it sometimes.]

I'm going to have to rearrange the roster a bit, but I do have someone else who was up for the job. Stefan's gonna come give you a hand for a bit while he learns the ropes. You okay with that?

Communication augment. [That's a good idea. Mainly she repeats it while stalling on the question. Even so, she can give a reasonably simple answer.]

He does. He came from Adstring and knew more about the comm than I do, though I don't know if he's as good with computers as you are. [So it's a tradeoff. It's also just Nami thinking of ways to maybe divert Sam off her back, ahah. >.>]
