At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

It's cooked fine, it's more... [He gestures towards the fried pieces. Those aren't typical rings, or well, anything an Earthling would associate "calamari" with.] I don't think that's an octopus. Or squid. Or anything we're used to.

[Stefan takes this as his cue to inhale the calamari whole. As soon as he swallows, he lets out shallow, low breaths. As if what he had just eaten was - ] Y'Allah, that was spicy.

Here, this is theoretically supposed to help soak up the capsaicin.

[He accepts the bread, though he holds off for a couple of seconds - it's not bad, once he adjusts to that SUDDEN HEAT and everything.]

Like milk, you mean? [He'll munch on it, just in case.] Yeah, it wasn't bad, just. Spicy.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, how spicy would you rate it? I have a friend back home who would probably love it and I have half a mind to ask for the recipe!

Hm. If you're talking American people spicy, it's an 11, but otherwise... 6? It's not bad, once you account for the fact that it's spicy.

[He grins, almost cheekily, as he elaborates - ] I'm from Jordan, so uh. My tastebuds are a little skewed.

If my friend ever ends up trapped here, I am absolutely sending her your way for a spice-off!

You'd better. I wanna know who'd win.

[spoilers: probably his friend. Stefan can only handle said spice because he's a cheating immortal.]

So, where exactly do you call home? Since the last I heard was uh, zombie camp?

[His friend is pretty much in the same camp, so it's anyone's game!]

That was just a pit-stop! Home is actually Seattle, Washington! Although if we were to define home as "the place where I'm originally from" then technically home is London, England. Home is definitely less exciting than the aforementioned zombie camp and being in space though.

[This is only a half-lie, really!]

Okay, but London and Seattle are still eons more exciting than my hometown. I'm from this super tiny place in Virginia - Mystic Falls? - with like, six thousand people.

[He pauses, just to amend,] But I was in Amman, Jordan before the Fleet got me, so. I know what city life's like.

It's always good to travel around a bit, yeah? Where you there for school or just a bit of fun?

Uh, the former. My grandparents live there, so I just stayed back with them when it was time for medical school.

[Also, "my hometown got destroyed after an alien invasion," but that's a much more depressing topic of conversation.]

Right, I remember you mentioning medical school. How's the studying going?

Not bad. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it - like the augment helps? But there's nothing like making that diagnosis on your own.

Well look at you! You're going to have me out of a job in no time!

... okay, probably not, unless you want to go into forensic pathology. But you get the point.

I hadn't given that much thought, no. I wanted to practice, in uh, a clinic and everything.

[Even if he's stuck practicing in outer space, it's still closer to his goal than he envisioned.]

So that's what you did? Forensic pathology?

That's exactly what I did, but I was in epidemiology prior to that. Not the first things people think of when it comes to being a doctor, but there's a lot of opportunities outside of general practice!

Also, now that I think about it? Epi would be super helpful with our current group - we could easily map out the population, figure out what glitches happen more often, and -

[He coughs.] I swear, this isn't how I usually spend a party.

No, go on, you're basically preaching to the choir here.

Okay, well - it's easier with a lab augment, but let's say we track all glitches in the past month and figure out that it's all from people on the Tourist. We could then narrow it down further and see what everyone on that crew has in common, and bam?

Maybe we're a little closer to figuring this weird situation out?

I think it's definitely worth a try! However, given that we're at the mercy of an unseen audience and likely meddling producers, it's hard to know if the data we gather would be entirely meaningful. But we wouldn't know unless we tried!

Exactly. I'm not expecting it to amount to much, unless the audience actually likes science. [You never know: they could accidentally host some strange version of Ravi & Stefan the Science Guys.] Plus, it's better than sitting around and being caught off-guard.

If you can create a good theme song, I'm in!

I'll get my people on it. [He laughs, holding out a free hand for a fist bump.] In the meantime, I should let you enjoy some of this... whatever it is.
