At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

I wish you could have known my nephew, Celebrimbor. He would have liked you, I think. Both of you keen-eyed and clever, with generous hands.

[winn]

[ winn's expression softens at the face of maglor's melancholy. ]

That is some high praise there. [ he smiles, trying to get back the more lighthearted atmosphere.] I like him already.

[ Maglor smiles back, melancholy banished for now ]

If he is ever drawn here I will have to introduce you both. And then step back to avoid any explosions.

[winn]

[ ah ha! melancholy doesn't stand a chance against the power of excitable nerd!!!

he laughs ]

Probably smart. [ he hasn't blown anything. big. yet. but he and cisco definitely come close sometimes... ]

[ cute adoptable excitable nerd! although Maglor thinks Winn would probably get offended that he thought he needed any form of looking after, so he won't say ]

The two of you would make something fit for song, I suspect. [ Maglor teases ] If you do not accidentally break the ships first!

[winn]

[ it's okay, winn's spent a significant part of his childhood wishing he would be adopted, he's happy there are so many people who want to look out for him now. ]

Oh no - no ship breaking, the lecture would never end. [ jim is too good at being the disapproving dad, tourist kids are fairly well behaved on that front, at least. ]

[bythewaves]

My father said something like that once. [ Maglor says in fond memory ]

Just before he and my brother Curufin managed to make the forge explode.

[winn]

[ he laughs ]

Your family sounds awesome.

[bythewaves]

We were more than a little crazy. [ Maglor sighs softly ]

But those were good days.

[winn]

[ that word does things to him ] The good kind.

[ his family's the bad kind of crazy. ]

[bythewaves]

At first? Aye. In those days we were innocent still.

[winn]

Come on, man - [ he pats his back ] it's a party. You want a drink? On me -

[ Maglor starts and smiles at Winn ]

My apologies, I wandered into dark waters.

I should be happier, on your birthday. And I think that drink is on me.

[winn]

You should be happier for you. [ he knows how complicated families can be. but you can't let that drag you down! ] Not gonna argue with you there - [ he grins ]

[bythewaves]

[ A wry smile and Maglor reaches across to ruffle Winn's hair briefly. ]

Very well then, 'name your poison', as they say.

[winn]

[ he smiles at the gesture, that's usually a jim thing to do but he doesn't mind in the least. ]

I think I better go for something weak, it's a long night ahead. Rum and cola? [ in hank's honor, he's wondering how his friend's big night is going, so his favorite drink comes to mind. ]

[bythewaves]

Space it out with plenty of water and do not mix the types of alcohol. [ Maglor advises, flagging down a waiter to place the order ]

Just a red wine for me, if you please. [ He adds ]

[winn]

I'll try.

[ he smiles, the advice also reminding him of jim. ]

Can we get some water too? Thanks - [ see? trying! ]

[ Maglor chuckles softly ]

And in that simple gesture you prove yourself far more mature than my brother at the equivalent age, who took that advice as a challenge.

[winn]

I have excellent hangover potions but I'd like to actually remember this party.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor chuckles softly again ]

No memory is every truly lost. Just. Um. Well supressed. Or drowned.

[winn]

Well this isn't one of the ones I want to drown.

[ shrug ]

Then I will have to pace you, hm?

[ Maglor grins at him and salutes him with his glass when it arrives ]

[ he salutes right back with his own ]
