At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

Heavens, no. I wouldn't want to steal your thunder and the new year's thunder. All in one fell swoop. [ she shakes her head. ] Keep it.

We have plenty of thunder to go around. But you're right, you should get a day that's all yours.

[ pish posh. she'll never celebrate it. not for any adverse reasons -- but merely because it's not a priority. more an inconvenience than a sore point. so she waves it off and focuses back upon winn. ]

Would you change the date? If you could?

Not with parties like this -

[ there are so many things in his life he would change if he could, that one doesn't even make the list. ]

Fair enough. [ a flash of a smile. ] Some people don't have the right temperament to share. I take it you're not one of them?

[ a good thing. a very good thing. a bit of personal hoarding (and even jealousy) isn't terrible, but peggy clearly would think little of someone sour over something as unchangeable as their date of birth. ]

[ he can definitely get jealous, even pettily so, but he's spent most of his life being jealous of people who have loved ones to share with. he gets jealous when he feels excluded. more people to party with? that sounds like some awesome inclusion to him! ]

Sharing is caring! [ he nods ]

Good Lord, that sounds as though it's lifted straight off a propaganda poster.

[ she gets a curious little frown at that ]

Who wrote your propaganda posters, care bears?

[ honestly, she was thinking more along the lines of the salvation army. ]

Cartoon, doesn't matter. [ he shakes his head ] D'you know the ponies? Kinda like them.

[ kinda like the ponies...? ]

But bears, I take it.

[ heaven help her. ]

Mostly bears, yeah. I think there was a lion too...and an elephant? I could be wrong on that one, it was a show about cute bears talking about feelings, I wasn't exactly the target audience.

[ the target audience. it possibly says a lot that she (clever though she is) doesn't think about television programmes aimed at children.

why bother? ]

Uh, little girls, mostly.

[ hey he will defend children programming til he's blue in the face. just. not that one. ]

...What are they doing in front of the television set? [ it could be that she's underestimated how much time people spend with these things. ]

[ why does it feel like he's gotten caught watching tv after bedtime? ]

And bears that both care and share are the best they can do? [ poor children. if you're going to spent an hour of your evening in front of the wireless, for example, it'd better be something worth listening to. she's applying that logic to the fabled television. ]

Absolutely not, the bears are just you know...they fit the conversation. They're cutsey and say stuff like 'sharing is caring'.

When does anyone [ even a child! ] have time to spend on something like cute bears?

[ OR PONIES for that matter. ]

After school, weekends, holidays? [ he knows tv wasn't wide spread in her time and programming and quality were lacking, but cute bears? those shouldn't be that hard to understand, right? ] Didn't you have toys when you were a kid?

[ toys? certainly. broomstick horses and wooden swords. but she doesn't imagine this television as being anything like those toys. she's always imagined it to be more like the radio.

and to that point: ] We were never allowed to listen to the wireless for more than an hour, at home. [ ... ] And never in the boarding rooms at school.

[ though you can be damned certain peggy found a way to sneak in a show or two. ]

[ the question was aimed more towards her remark about cute bears. he always thought of care bears as an animated version of playing with your stuffed animals. ]

Some homes have that rule. [ he nods ] Though I'm thinking a lot fewer my days, there's programming on the internet for a very low or no cost, and a lot of kids have a laptop in their rooms, if not a TV set.

Oh, I don't know. [ a crinkle of her nose. ] Still sounds rather dull to me.

[ but her word should never be trusted on such matters. the woman doesn't even much care for the cinema of her decade. let alone anything else. ]
