At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

Wow, [ her laughter toes the line between wry and bright. ] Real smooth. Kudos to you.

[ her fingers slip from the back of his neck -- kate grabs securely onto his shoulder as a way to root herself in place as he eases her backwards. ]

[He misses the touch of her fingers behind his neck as soon as they slip away and it isn't long before he brings her back up to level.] Daxamites have some talents.

Alright -- [ she aims to keep things light. she knows not where she treads. ] Tell me something about your home planet. Tell me anything.

We were ruled by a king and queen and their son. [Hard to feel light when past tense is happening. But he keeps a smile on his lips.]

[ she hears the past tense -- feels like a dolt -- but she's already come this far. and kate doesn't do embarrassment, so she sticks to her guns. but now that she's standing straight again, she does make a point of ghosting her hands back to his nape. they're a steady, confident presence against the collar of his shirt. ]

Monarchy, huh? How fancy.

[There's no blame here. How is anyone supposed to know his planet would just be gone? ~~And it does give him a wonderful reason not to talk about the thing I have next to no canon information on!~~

Only the fanciest. Do you do a lot of dancing back home between avenging? [because he's noticed she's good at it.]

Whenever I can. 'Cause that's the other thing about great responsibility: it comes with a pretty great need to blow off steam.

[ gotta cope with all that do-gooding when it wears you down. ]

Are there places to dance on the ships when we aren't here?

There's a jukebox at Malum. [ ... ] And plenty of space to move'n'groove. But it's not quite the same without the crowd, you know? [ or maybe he didn't. she puffs her cheeks and tries to articulate it. ] The more bodies the better.

[ it's not even something saucy. just -- anonymity, freedom, flexibility. these things don't exist in the fleet; she craves them. ]

[He looks kind of amused as she continues.] I understand some things. I think wanting to blend into a crowd is universe. Then again this karaoke seems to be very important here.

[ she breaks out into sharp laughter before confessing: ] Oh, gee. I did the karaoke thing once. Never again. Rest assured, this is not a representative sample of earthling pastimes.

[ not nearly enough sexting, crossfit, or jar salads. ]

I mostly had Kara and Winn to guide me on earthling pastimes. [You can probably see the problems?]

-- So they're grooming you to be a giant dork. Like them. [ LOOK, she loves them. truly madly deeply. and kate's a real big fan of dorks. her favourite people are dorks, generally.

but still. her point stands. ]

[That earns a full laugh.] I think I know exactly what dork means. [He's even right.] You should have seen me after Kara dressed me. There were glasses.

Oh, futz. [ she steps back -- grabbing him by his upper arms and narrowing her attention at his face. ] I dunno. You'd look great in glasses.

[ probably. ]

But probably even better in sunglasses. [ hmm! ] Yeah.

Depends. [ she smiles. ] Are you saying you want me to?

Kate, would you do me the honor of taking me shopping? I won't even make you pay for it all. [Is he teasing? He's probably teasing but he does have a history...]

I'd love to. [ and it's utterly sincere. actually? it sounded fun. and kate always embraces fun. ] Your first pair is on me. Promise.

[Embracing fun would be his middle name if Daxamites had middle names.]

Tomorrow? Late. [He laughs. Waking up is HARD okay?]

Sure. Sounds feasible. [ but! ] You bring the pancakes.

[ nevermind that she's the cook. ]

[ this is where people might beam and say it's a date. but frankly, kate's too self-aware to go stumbling over an amateur word-slip like that.

[And there are no chumps here! Just a guy who is lonely but also hung up on a kryptonian who doesn't trust him and having a really good time with a dancing Avenger! Nothing could go wrong!]

[ twirling! she keeps her poise. impressive, really, given how much wine she's already had. in fact, she announces with a laugh: ]
