At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

Me and Clint. [ her clint. ] We're neck and neck. He'd never tell you this and -- hey, I don't like admitting it either -- but on any given day either one of us could be the greater shot. Maybe he had a better breakfast. Maybe I had more coffee.

That's impressive. Assuming he's as good as I expect him to be.

[And she sees no reason to assume he won't be.]

Especially considering he's got the edge in experience.

I blame those stupid trick arrows. [ ... ] They make him soft.

Oh, is that how it works? No exploding arrows or tracking devices for you?

Not if I can help it. [ a crinkle of her nose. ] Sometimes a boomerang tip or a smoke bomb comes in handy -- but otherwise? Seems like way more trouble than they're worth.

Believe me, it never hurts to have a few tricks up your sleeve. You can't always count on them, but sometimes a surprise or two makes all the difference.

Sure. Just as long as they don't veer towards the gimmicky.

[You think that's gimmicky, try the Widow's Bite, the Widow's Sting, etc.

Natasha doesn't bring that up though.]

Right? And that line is drawn inches away from having to spend my Saturday afternoons labeling arrows just so I can remember which does what.

Never seen Clint label his arrows. I'm not sure how he knows which one is which, really.

Weight. Feel. God knows how. [ kate shrugs. she's witnessed it in action, but she still considers it to have been a crashing burning failure. ] I don't even know where he finds the things -- unless he has Iron Man whip them up.

[ she can't call him 'tony' she just can't. ]

Suppose anything's possible. Arrowheads seem a little below Tony's regular output though.

[Natasha, on the other hand, has no such problem.]

Maybe. Maybe not. [ kate can't really say for certain. except: ] He made Clint's hearing aids.

And someone did it without adding lasers. [Impressive, really.]

Here and I would have bet Clint was the one watching over Tony's shoulder to make sure he didn't get carried away.

Maybe. Maybe not. To be honest, I can't much speak to what he's like around the other -- uh OG Avengers. We don't mingle like that.

OG Avengers. [She might like that. She's not sure yet.] I guess we haven't had the chance to have old Avengers and new Avengers yet.

Avengers, Unity Division, A-Force, Great Lakes Avengers, Young Avengers. There used to be a West Coast Avengers for a little while there -- Clint was the team leader.

[ she doesn't know the specifics but things seemed to have ended badly. ditto the thunderbolts under clint's lead. ]

We haven't diversified that much. Which might be a big part of the difference. Your versions are more experienced.

[Natasha isn't sure how she feels about that, even as a joke.]

Not even a little bit. They saved me. Once. I was eleven and I got in over my head with these two-bit kidnappers and -- oh, jeez. Cap, Iron Man, Thor, and Hawkeye. They showed up and saved the futzing day.

Call it cliche but I'm pretty fond of that roster.

Sounds like a good group, yeah. [Core group, even.] A lot of boys in that one though.

[True of her Avengers too, though.]

Things always used to be a bit of a boys' club. [ understatement of the century. ] But they just happened to be the ones at that warehouse on that day. It was so long ago -- I can't remember who else might have been on the roster back then.
