Hey everybody, this is Sorey. I'm just checking in, seeing if everything's okay. Oh, and paperwork for new upgrades will be coming in soon, so if there's anything anybody would like to see upgraded, cast your votes now!

Oh also, we don't have any lab support personnel. I know Mikleo's been doing some stuff but if you know anybody looking to transfer who'd like the use of the lab, could you let 'em know? I'll include a call out in my public broadcast in a sec.

I'm kind of curious; so there are a lot of different kinds of forces or energies here that are a lot like the ones back on my planet, but they don't seem to behave the same way here. Like the rules are different. Is anybody else running against that?

And as an aside, if there's any potential lab personnel looking for a place, the Huntress has an unoccupied lab, for now.

Yeah, like that. And I've been to some places where there was some sort of power dampening field? So it wouldn't work at all.

Are your powers working alright?

No no, my powers are fine.

It's more about malevolence than anything. I'm beginning to wonder if it's not the same thing at all, even if it looks the same.

Hmmm...it's possible, I suppose. I can't think of many worlds where Hellions as you've describe them really exist.

I was one, though. I was definitely a hellion.

[this is a worrying thing that he's trying very hard not to worry about. having more information might help.]

...you told me about Innocence; is there anything like an antithesis to it, back home?

I know. So whatever it is actually out here, you still can have the same reaction to it as malevolence. But people from other worlds don't have the same reaction to it as you do.

[He had some theories on possibly why, but...nothing conclusive. ]

Antithesis? That'd be Dark Matter.

[That's a thought he hadn't considered; that maybe people from his world just react to this same thing differently than everyone else. It makes sense, that the way malevolence 'behaves' isn't different, but the people it's affecting.]

Mmm. Have you seen any of that here?

[A pause as he thinks about it.]

Rarely, and thankfully it's always been very diluted or a milder form of it than what Innocence's made to handle.

Dark Matter's extremely volatile. Just the slightest bit of skin contact to it can kill a regular human within seconds.

Oh. [yikes] I guess some of that stuff floating around would be difficult to miss. It's a tangible thing?

Mm, it's a substance that can get used as a power source. But when it is used, it's very destructive and feeds on the sort of things that'd generate malevolence as you know.

It's like...people in my world? We don't have to worry day-to-day about generating malevolence or becoming Hellions. We can be as miserable as we'd like, and nothing would happen, not really.

But the moment Dark Matter gets brought into the equation somehow ... well, everything can very quickly go to Hell.

That seems worse than malevolence. At least malevolence can be spotted at treated; this Dark Matter stuff sounds more like a weapon.

That's because it is. The Millennium Earl is using Dark Matter to create weapons so he can destroy humanity.

Before him ... Akuma, Exorcists ... none of those things existed. Innocence and Dark Matter did, but ... no one used them or even knew what they were.

[This Millennium Earl is Allen's Lord of Calamity. Was he once a human being too?]

Then...I hope we don't see him here. Even if malevolence doesn't affect everyone the same, it could still be disastrous if he learned how to use that too.

Actually, what ended up happening to that Dark Matter you saw here?

It...depends on the situation. Sometimes it's safely contained in a proper host, and if they aren't causing any problems, I leave them alone.

Otherwise, I do what I can to purify or destroy it.

[So same as what he suggested they do regarding malevolence.] The people who have that Dark Matter...do they know they do? [It seems so improbable that they could be unaware, but people generating malevolence usually have no clue until it's too late.]

Most of the time, yes. Even if they have different terms for it, they usually know by the time I meet them.

But sometimes, on a rare occasion... [His shoulders slump and he shakes his head] Those are never easy conversations.

What happens if you have to destroy the Dark Matter? You can do it without killing the host, right?

[There's a long pause from Allen. Oh, he'd love to say "yeah, that's right". To give the idea that he had that sort of power, to be able to purify people without risk of destroying them. It wasn't entirely wrong, between Sorey and Anders he's had two cases now where it worked out without anyone dying. But....

"We're destroyers, not saviors."

He remembered those words after his first official mission. And...Kanda had been right about that. Even if he did manage to save Sorey and Anders ... there had been far more that he hadn't been able to save. ]

Only...very rarely.

[It wouldn't be right to pretend those few successes wiped away all his failures.]

The truth is, I'm the only Exorcist with any chance of doing it without destroying the host and even then...

[He swallows]

You were the first. You were the first time it worked.

[That is...intensely depressing. And seeing how that weight rests on Allen's shoulders reflected right on his face is likewise, depressing. Zaveid had insisted on it too, that sometimes death is the only options, and even through everything that's happened recently Sorey still can't quite grasp the concept.

It's just hard to keep that up in the face of every veteran he comes across telling him otherwise.]

...thank you, then. For trying it even if you weren't sure. [It couldn't have been easy, but as Allen said before, it's his job. He'd have done it no matter what.]

[He offers a one shoulder shrug] I had to try. I made a promise.

[Allen wasn't the type that broke a promise he made, even if the chances of succeeding were incredibly low.

But he can tell yeah, he's definitely depressing Sorey.]

Look, it sounds bad but it's not all dreary. Even if you can't fully get rid of it, there's still ways to seal it or keep it in check. I even met one boy who found a way to become immune to his darkness's corruption properties.

[A promise to himself, maybe? Makes sense, like taking on an oath.

Still, though, immune? Oh, to be immune to malevolence. There goes the game plot.]

That sounds really useful. Did your Order try to recreate it?

I'm...not sure you want to hear the answer to that question, Sorey. I was talking about someone I met in the fleet anyway.

...okay, um. Well, is the boy you met in the Fleet still here?

[No trust him Sorey, you're much too pure for that story. Much too pure.]

No...He left some time ago, I'm afraid. I had hoped to learn more about his method, but I didn't get a chance.

It's still nice knowing it's possible, though.
