They're called waffles. Made from batter and cooked through. I prefer pancakes myself; waffles are a bit more crispy and rigid. [He motions to the collection of breakfast condiments.] They taste wonderful with syrup or whipped cream, perhaps some fruit or jellies. They're also quite delicious with fruits or chocolate cooked inside the batter.

[Jarvis never goes halfway with explanations when it comes to food!!]

They're very close to desserts, to be sure.

But very filling, and a good source of energy for the day. I could always make something more to your preference in the future, though; I'll need all the practice in the world until I can master the ingredients this place offers.

Worry not, after some of the food we have had, this is a feast.

[ especially the fruit! a child of highgarden, she had missed fruit and flowers and the sweet smell of nature. this is the closest thing to honeyed milk and berry cakes she had seen in months.

she grabs a waffle and inspects it ]

No, no, the opposite, actually.

You put things on top of the bread. Many enjoy syrup on top of it — luckily not so terrible as some of the other synthetic things aboard the ship. As long as you have something similar to sugar around, anyway.

[ she starts piling up toppings, mostly fruit, on top of her waffle, curiously tasting syrups and smiling ]

we have fruit cakes in mine - and pie. And honeyed milk served warm.

I'm familiar with fruit cakes -- and honeyed milk is delightful!

Unfortunately, I'm not quite skilled enough with the... materials here, to replicate them properly. But I'm more than happy to find out a way for your enjoyment.
