That's- That's over ten years! You guys go to school for ten years? [oh my god he wants to go back in time and grow up where you live]

Uh yeah. When you put it that way, it does sound like a long time...

[monolike]

What do you even learn? Do you learn special things or- is it like an apprenticeship?

[notzubats]

Reading, Math, History, Pokemon studies ... learned a lot about boating and fishing too, I guess.

[monolike]

[Finishes putting those tape rolls on.] Wow, that's so cool... [Sighs enviously.] History class. I would've loved to take it.

[notzubats]

Really?

[That surprises him]

But you're really smart. Didn't you go to school?

[monolike]

Nope! In my village me and Mikleo were the only kids! So there was no point in having a school. Our Gramps taught us stuff like math and reading and writing, but everything else we know we got from books or by practicing.

Do you need help back up?

[notzubats]

Wow, only two kids? And I thought my village was small.

[At least he had like...8 kids his age there!!]

Nah, I'm a good jumper! [To prove his point, he jumps up onto a thruster that's hanging above them] See?

[Well then Sorey will follow him, Windstepping up there so he doesn't have to yell up the side of the ship like some idiot.] You said you grew up on the beach, right? So your village is right by the sea?

[notzubats]

[He's seen Dezel do windstepping a bunch of times, but Sorey doing it is still impressive.] Hey nice!

[But since Sorey can clearly follow, he'll continue his ascent onto the ship, jumping onto various parts to serve as footholds.]

Yep! It's on an island!

[monolike]

Ah, that's right! Coconuts! [he still wants one of those, y'know]

[notzubats]

[He laughs] Yeah, that's right! Lots of coconuts.

[monolike]

Sora how big is your island, geographically? I always thought they were relatively small but if you can fit a whole village on yours, it must be considerable, right?

[notzubats]

A whole small village, sure.

It wasn't that big. You could get across it in about an hour or two. There were a couple smaller islands near it, but those were tiny.

[monolike]

That is pretty small. Did you have everything you needed on the island? I guess you did, if you had a village. [It must've had a spring or something for fresh water, but that's so weird to think about. Not having water on an island.]

[notzubats]

Yeah, we did! [He jumps and pulls himself up onto the top of the ship. Then he holds out a hand for Sorey to grab] Had to. There's...really not any trade or traveling like these worlds have.

[monolike]

There's no trade? [wha t the fuck

Sorey grabs onto Sora's hand and pushes himself up with wind as well. Whew, they're pretty high up. Neat!] No boats or anything? You're just on that island the whole time?

[notzubats]

Well there were fishing boats! But nothing that could really get past the shallow waters around the island, no.

[He offers a shrug] It used to be different. But there was like some huge disaster like...500 years ago or so. Any towns left ended up cut off from each other after that.

[monolike]

[Whoa. That sounds like the Age of Chaos swallowing up the vast majority of their recorded history.] I guess that makes sense...especially if you're a little island in the middle of the sea. If nobody from the mainland even knows you're out there...

I'm sorry. That sounds a little lonely.

[notzubats]

...Yeah.

[Lonely's a good way to put it.]

Actually, when I was 14? Something happened and I ended up on the mainland - in this big city. And they'd been so isolated that they didn't think anyone was outside their town. Anyone I told about my village thought I was crazy, or hit my head too hard.

Eventually I just...stopped talking about it.

[monolike]

Sora... [Dude, what the heck.] You were stranded there? Away from your family and everything?

[notzubats]

Yeah.

For about a year. Then I came here.

[monolike]

I'm so sorry. [Rests a hand on his back.] I couldn't even tell. You're always so cheerful...

[notzubats]

Yeah, well...you know, I always try to be positive.

[You know, since anything else tends to blow stuff up]

You're allowed to be upset, too. It's just as much a part of your heart as anything else.
