About six thousand years worth? Give or take.

Vast experience doesn't mean much when you're living with other people.

Suppose it doesn't, but technically I'm not supposed to be living with them. Plus, I'm not really 'people'.

That's not how it works. You become people when you live among them. It changes you.

[He pauses for a moment, before letting out an exhale. An exhale he absolutely doesn't need to exhale at all. ]

Okay, you have me there. They really do get under your skin.

[ Kubo is unimpressed. ]

I'm sure that's all they do.

[onlyanapple]

Eh. Depends on the person, really. And I'm not exactly what you'd call a regular demon- for a demon where I'm from anyway. The rest of them are much less inclined to play nice with humanity.

[shamisens]

[ Kubo sighs. ]

Yeah. I know.

Somehow, I thought you might.

[shamisens]

My mother came from the Heavens. So did the rest of her family.

[onlyanapple]

That would explain why you know about the Heavens, then. Did they chose to come to Earth of their own violation, or were they forced?

[shamisens]

Only one of them did. My mother left because she fell in love with a human.

[onlyanapple]

For real? Well, good on her. Hope it made her happy. You can make a good life, doing that.

[Projecting much, Crowley? ]

Did the rest of your family come down unwillingly, then?

[shamisens]

They didn't really come down to join us.

[ More the extreme opposite. ]

[onlyanapple]

[Oh. Well. ]

I'm taking it they didn't approve of your mother's romantic choice?

[shamisens]

[ If Kubo was a rude, less mature child, he'd snort. ]

They made that very clear.

[onlyanapple]

[Crowley pulls a face, he clearly doesn't approve. ]

Well, that's just bullshit. It's not their place to control who you mother loves, no matter how high and bloody mighty they think they are.

[shamisens]

Does it matter?

[ It's kind of late at this point. ]

[onlyanapple]

Of course it does. I mean- okay, sure, those kinds never really listen, so you might as well be screaming into the wind, but fuck them. They don't get to decide anything. Much less something like love.

I bet they could stomp and scream all they liked, and no matter how it ended- which from your expression I'm guessing isn't good- did they actually manage to stop your mother loving your father? Did they make those feelings go away?

[shamisens]

[ Kubo knows that. He knows he'll carry the story of his parents. It'll live on through him and through the people he meets. It'll never fully end. But it was an end. And it came so swiftly. ]

Just because the feelings didn't go doesn't mean everything else didn't.

[onlyanapple]

...I suppose that's true. They can kill you, make you not exist- but they can't make things go their way. They can't alter other's feelings- their choices. That's more important than anything. Being able to choose for yourself. Because no matter how it all ends, you still got to choose.

[shamisens]

[ Kubo knows that and agrees. The choices are important. Being human is important as well. But he finds himself rebelling all the same, the core of hurt and anger close to his chest. ]

That's easy to say when you haven't ended.
