[The fleet, more or less patched up after their battle, has once again left civilization behind for empty space. Maybe it's a good time to distract yourself and get away from the endless repairs and nothingness, though there might still be cleaning up that needs to be done here too.

Whether you're grabbing a broom or grabbing a drink, this is a fleetwide mingle for the Iskaulit.]

I know. Happened to me, before I came here.

[And he wants to believe it so badly, wants to picture for Wrath a future in a beautiful world where the air was clean and she was surrounded by friends.] It would be a fitting end for a good woman.

She hasn't ended.

[ His tone comes up sharper than he expected and he exhales in surprise. ]

I know. [Kurt's voice is soft, nearly a whisper. It helps, but does not completely, disguise the strain in his next words.]

But I will never see her again.

[ Ah. Therein lies the rub. It's one Charles is quite familiar, a discussion he plays on his head. ]

But you have met her. Terrible things may lie in between, but there is that singular truth.

[Kurt's mouth twists, and for a moment his expression wavers between deep gratitude and equal fury.

He compromises by taking a drink, the flash of silvery metal absent from his left hand.] I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

There are many ways, none of them wrong. But regret is one feeling I'll pass on. I've done enough of that in my lifetime to want a repeat of it.

I don't regret knowing her. Not sure I even regret how things were. [How could he? She made him happier than he ever thought he'd be again.]

But you regret losing her. That's when the lines become dangerous. Take it from someone who has fallen off the wagon.

[ He holds his glass up ironically. ]

Oh, trust me I'm aware. You should have seen me after..after everything went to shit.

[He doesn't say a word about Charles having a drink now, just raises his own in a mock toast.] Don't care right now, but I'm certain Kitty will come along and kick my ass if that goes on for too long.

I can imagine.

[ And even then, he doesn't have to. Charles has seen some of Kitty's memories, though nothing explicit and particularly personal. Not to mention having first hand experience with Apocalypse has given plenty of context. ]

Mhm. I don't miss those hangovers.

[Or having to run from Wolverine and his squad after having emptied a hotel mini bar the night before.] I'm sure you don't either.

Not particularly. Though I've always had a high tolerance.

[ He can't remember the last time he ever had a hangover, though he often wondered if his telepath and fine control of his mind helps him in that regard. ]

Mine is alright, for a mutant without a healing factor. Although, I suppose I could avoid the hangovers more often here. There's always water to be had.

[He says this like it's the first time it's occurred to him, and it is. So often in his life clean drinking water has involved a long process, or been unavaible entirely.]

Well, drinking is never a good thing to do alone. Even with all the things necessary to avoid hangovers.

[ And Charles avoids it because it's a slippery slope for him. ]

Is that an invitation or a warning?

Both, I suppose. I'm technically not allowed to drink alone.

[ Hank would be pissed. ]

[Kurt nods and, pulling out a chair with his tail, moves to perch on the edge.]

When should I cut you off?

[ Charles raises an eyebrow, amused. ]

Four shots and I should stop.

[ecclesiophobic]

Better tolerance than Jean. Four shots it is.

And I'll have you know this is exceedingly comfortable for me. [Referring, of course, to his unique approach to using chairs.]

[ His brow crinkles. That's far too much information as far as Jean is concerned. ]

I can believe that.

[Oops. Amusing, but not intended.]

That's right, you've met Wagner by now. Has he started skittering across the ceiling yet?

Not yet. He's still warming up to the school.

[ Considering where Kurt used to be, it's a large bridge to cross but he'll manage because the X-Men will look out for him. ]

It took me a while as well. I wasn't used to being around so many people.

[axiomed]

Mm. It usually takes most of them some time to settle. But he's an X-Men.

[ And that commitment means he'll be fine. ]

[Kurt smiles softly, oddly proud.]
