[your pilot seems to be in unusually good spirits today]

[while usually seen flashing mischievous smiles and making witty retorts, when it comes time to grab some food he's usually pretty sulky. one gets tired of liqui-gel protein foodstuff pretty quickly, even when it's doctored up by a cook, and while he can't deny that it tastes good. . . it's just. well, boring!]

[but today he wears a huuuuuge, bright smile as he dispenses himself some chicken and teriyaki flavored protein blocks in the kitchen. he's bobbing his head back and forth in rhythm with some random tune he's humming too, which is. . . even more unusual than the smile at snack time, to be honest. his shoulder is still bandaged from the wound he received from the raider attack, but at least he's no longer wearing the sling]

[if he happens to see someone pass by or enter the kitchen, he'll immediately perk up even more (if. that's possible) and wave]

Oooooi! Did you know this stuff is really good? Like, crazy good? Heh! It's probably the best stuff I've ever tasted!

[wtf is wrong with him today]

a. anywhere~

[ winn has plenty of reasons to visit the blameless, it houses some of his favorite people on the fleet. so you can find him in hank's lab, waiting for him or cisco, hanging out in the cargo hold waiting for one of his friends, or poking into the kitchen - especially if something smells promising... ]

b. closed to hank

[ winn called ahead to make sure hank was free, but he's been pretty skimpy on the details. this is definitely not the kind of thing he wants to talk to on the network.

he knocks on the lab's door briefly mostly to announce himself before letting himself in. in his jacket is the blood sample he's taken from mon-el, marked plainly test against lead to protect his identity. ]

Hi - thanks for squeezing me in.

[ It doesn't take long for Raven to find Winn, and she grins, rushing up to wrap her arms around him from behind. She's... Definitely been influenced by the device, not that she's entirely consciously aware of it. ]

Winn! Hi. [ She smiles, stepping back. ] How are you?

[it seems like good moods are contagious here on the Blameless -

While Hank has always been the type to be quiet and neutral when he's working on something, today's a little different. It starts out with him tapping a nonsense beat on the countertop with his pen, and when afternoon hits it becomes him humming the same tune as he moves around, checking one thing and updating his notes as he goes. You might even catch a few song lyrics, though unless you're familiar with 80s music, well, you may or may not recognize it.

Oddest of all, though, is that the lab door is kept open all day. Usually he closes it when he's using chemicals, but today? Nope, everyone's welcome.

After lunch, he moves to work off some excess energy in the cargo bay on the punching bag - both properly and upside down. Because why not?]

[he already has what equipment he needs ready by the time Winn arrives, the rest of the things he works on during the day packed away or set aside. He glances up when he knocks on the door]

Hi. You say that as if I have a full schedule.

Hey you got a fiance now, I don't know.

[ he shrugs with a smile. sitting next to him, he takes out the vial of blood. ] Okay here's the deal - a friend of mine, who we'll refer to as Y, cuz you guys get dibs on X, can get seriously poisoned from any traces of lead. So I was hoping by analyzing their blood, we can figure out a cure in case it happens...a vaccine would be amazing, but I don't know if that's possible...I can get more, if we need it.

Oh - [ he jumps a little as she caught him off guard, but smiles and turns, and you know what, if she's in a hugging mood he's going to hug right back! ]

Hi Raven - you're in a good mood!

Not a thing has changed. At least, not that I know of. [he just put a ring on her finger.

As Winn explains the situation, though, Hank sits back and crosses his arms, frowning thoughtfully] Well - a vaccine is used for biological threats to the body, like disease. You're essentially introducing the body to a very weakened form of it so that it learns to recognize it as a threat and build the proper defenses. Lead poisoning isn't a disease, though - it's a poisonous metal. So the body's defenses work differently when it's introduced into the system.

[he scratches at his cheek] There are treatments for it, if someone is poisoned - chelation therapy or activated charcoal, depending on the severity of it. I can run some tests - [he nods to the vial] - to see how quickly it builds up and if there are any other effects. I know how it works for humans, but - is "Y" human? Mutant? "Other"?

Wow, Hank, you're such a romantic.

[ you are so lucky you got her, bro. ]

I'm not sure how to treat it, like poisoning or an allergy, or what, I've never seen it happening and it's really out of my field, so I'm totally in your hands here. [ he nods ] Um, other. Alien, so, we're dealing with a different physiology that comes from a different environment. [ no it's not kara ] Hope you're in the mood for a challenge.

[for all the time Kaito had been the Blameless's pilot, he had yet to sneak into the labs to watch Hank work. but today, his happy skipping around the ship takes him right past the open door, and curiosity gets the best of him]

[he pokes his head in and gives Hank a happy little wave]

Hard at work, huh? I think that earns you a high five.

[FINGER GUNS!! someone plz stop him]

[now this is an unfamiliar face on the Blameless. nevertheless, when Kaito spots him waiting near the lab, he gives the visitor a cheerful wave and a wink]

Hey there! What a nice day to visit our ship, huh? And it's pretty great to get visitors, too!

[he's so. . . happy]

Is that a bad thing? [ She raises her eyebrow, leaning back and watching him for a moment. ] I don't have a reason to be upset right now.

[ Raven is, of course, familiar with 80s music. She couldn't escape it, and she huffs a quiet laugh as she hears Hank singing, stepping through the doorway of the lab, moving over to wrap her arms around him from behind, head on top of his shoulder. ]

Good afternoon. You're happy.

What's that supposed to mean?

[he is totally a romantic u shut ur mouth]

Well - you've got a sample, so we can run some tests to see if it should be treated like poisoning or an allergy. [that seems like the place to start, honestly] I'm always in the mood for a challenge - especially one like this.

[it's maybe a step down from cocky but it's about as confident as he'll ever sound]

As for a solution - a vaccine might be out of the question, but there might be a way to build up an immunity another way. We'll have to see what the results say first, but we don't have to rule that out just yet.

[Hank glances up and smiles in greeting, and even returns the little wave once he puts his pen down. Though the comment gets him laughing]

I'm always hard at work. I think this is the first time I've earned a high five because of it.

[he immediately leans into the embrace, turning his head to kiss her temple with a grin. He shrugs with the other shoulder]

'Afternoon. You seem like you're happy too.

[ this is one of the only unfamiliar faces the blameless has to offer winn - and it seems like a pretty happy face, so he's excited to change that. smiling, he offers a cheerful wave in return. ]

Looks like I got great timing, I'll add it to my resume! I'm Winn Schott, I'm friends with, well, Hank, Raven, Cisco, and Kate. [ so basically your entire ship. ]

Of course not, it's got good right there in the title!

[ he loves seeing her happy, and he's always a fan of hugs ] Don't jinx it.

[ just a look at that, hank, you know what it means.

he listens intently, and claps hank's back gratefully. ]

I knew I could count on you! So how do we do this?

Mm. Maybe I woke up on the right side of the bed or something.

[ Or maybe she's just happy that she has her fiance and her brother and her best friend and things are great!! And she's just had a good fight and nothing seems to be going wrong and, oh, also, Hank is giving her kisses, that's nice too. ]

Are you working on something...?

I'm not jinxing anything. [ Her nose wrinkles and she shakes her head. ] I just feel like I have energy to burn.

[no he doesn't know ok nothing has changed!!

He grins, and reaches over to grab the microscope to pull closer]

Well first, we look at the sample itself. I'm familiar with human blood and - well, mutant blood isn't that different - but alien blood is a new one. So we look, note the differences and anything else, and then . . . well, take a sample of the sample.

[. . . he pushes the microscope in front of Winn, then reaches into a drawer for the slides] Ever studied a blood sample before?

You too?

[were he not in such a good mood himself, he'd be suspicious of it all. But how can he be suspicious with her smiling at him like that and close enough to kiss]

Mm, nothing I can't set aside.

It was a - joke. Are you sure you're feeling alright?

[ she's acting kinda weird, he's not sure how to take it. is this a glitch? feels too harmless to be a glitch...oh shit he just jinxed it didn't he. ]

... Yes?

[ Though she does frown a little, stopping to just... Think for a moment. ]

I'm just... Happy.
