Who: Tadashi Hamada and everyone!
Broadcast: Fleet-wide.
Action: On Marsiva.
When: 3/10-3/14
[ it's probably unfortunate that the network is left open and broadcasting, because tadashi awakes with a jolt and a gasp and sits up fast in his bunk on the marsiva. he isn't sure where he is, but he knows this wasn't where he was, and it's clear there's some mental scrambling going on as he desperately tries to slot in place the very few pieces of the puzzle he has. ]
Professor Callaghan?
[ had something happened? was this the hospital? ]
Hiro? Guys - what's going on?
[ ACTION: ]
[ and until the shuffle, tadashi will be found... pretty much investigating everything he can about the marsiva. he might not have an engineer augment, but he still finds it all pretty ridiculously fascinating. if he's not too absorbed into whatever he's doing, he's equally likely to flag any friendly-looking faces down.
might as well get to know his fellow... space... travelers, right? (wow, that was gonna take some getting used to.) ]

[ tadashi manages to make his tone sound borderline incredulous. hopefully the slight smile he's managing will be more than enough to indicate that he isn't at all serious right now. ]
Back way, way up. Are you sure he's not a robot? I might need to make sure he hasn't been replaced with a drone.
video
Oh, she can see the resemblance between these two already. ]
Well, I will admit that I am not very familiar with robots. The closest we have where I'm from are golems, and they are created under vastly different circumstances, from what I've gathered.
video
[ welp - good job, steffa. consider tadashi immediately curious. ]
That's - uh. [ a total dungeons and dragons thing, right? not that he plays, okay, but he's familiar... shut up. ] How are they made?
video
It was a mystery, even to the Dwarves, for a long time. We... rediscovered it, briefly, a year or so ago.
[ she grimaces ] It was not a kind process. The soul of a living being was trapped within the golem, which is what gave it life.
I have to say, I believe I prefer robots.
video
tadashi winces a little, though, as if he feels bad to have brought that up in the first place. ]
Yeah. Think I prefer robots, too. Sorry to pry.
video
It was something we learned about centuries after it had stopped, and we destroyed the device made to create them. It's not prying, just... not very fun to think about.
[ Still, let's change the subject ]
So, Hiro told me you're in college, which from what I can tell is advanced scholarly and academic studies outside what's required, right? What were you studying?
[ She might not understand most of it, but she's insanely curious about it. A whole WORLD of things people study that she's never even heard of! ]
video
Did he tell you that he's in college, too? He completely wowed everyone at the expo - he got accepted into the same program that I'm in.
[ tadashi? are you gonna finish answering her question? ]
-- oh, right. Which is robotics engineering. He and I both have a knack [ or slight obsession ] with 'em. It's - I think they're the next big step in making the world a better place. [ was that dorky? that felt dorky. he clears his throat and reins it in slightly. ] It's a really exciting field to be in right now, that's all.
video
He did, actually. I can tell you're very proud of him.
[ But now he's actually got her attention - she's going into study mode, which means... she might get obnoxious. ]
I think that's a wonderful goal to work towards. I tried to do that in my own way, but it was more dealing with threats to people's homes and lives directly than improving the situation as a whole. What are you working on now?
[ okay, it's a slightly depressing question, given that she knows... well, she knows, but she's not actually thinking about that at the moment. ]
video
[ it might be a little easier to believe any of that if tadashi weren't just nearly glowing with pride. hiro had come a long way in a short time, had transitioned from building bots for illegal backalley fights to creating microbots -- something that could quite literally change the world. he had worked hard, and deserved every iota of recognition that he got.
the smile that persists on his face is not one he is making a conscious effort to maintain. ]
Right now? Uh - jeez, I wish I had it here with me, he'd be really handy. His name's Baymax. He's a healthcare bot, it's - [ ahhh how to explain this ] - he can make diagnoses and do basic first aid, his scanners make getting and monitoring vitals quick and simple, and - you know, there are a lot of understaffed hospitals, or people who can't afford to see a real doctor, or places that just don't have the resources, and with enough bots like these - he could help a lot of people, you know?
[ this was tadashi, trying not to get too excited, trying not to completely and utterly geek out with terms over the head of someone utterly unfamiliar with his world. he's doing his best, ok. :') tbh even at home he doesn't spend a lot of time with people out of the lab, and this kind of stuff is just sort of innate there. ]
video
Oh, I wish we could have something like that back home - there are so many people who can't get to anyone who knows more than a few herbal remedies, let alone a proper healer. I can't even do much in the way of useful healing spells, to be honest.
That sounds amazing. How does it know what's wrong with people if it's a machine?
[ Don't worry about going over her head too much, she'll make note of the things she doesn't follow and ask Hiro about it. ]
video
[ o k a y tadashi let's put the reins on those inspirational speeches. he shakes his head, as if clearing cobwebs. ]
He can do a full-body scan like that- [ and here he snaps his fingers ] -and pull up, jeez, just about everything you could want to know. It's got the potential to do a lot of really great things. [ someone is proud of his baby :') ]
video
It is better than nothing, definitely.
I'm sure he will. You're so passionate about it, I can't imagine anything less.
video
Well, if you're gonna devote your life to something... better make sure it's something you care about, right?
[ he means robotics in general, not necessarily the healthcare-bot, but. ]
video
[ Well, with the blight over and Thedas Maker only knows where in relation to here, maybe she can start working on the things she actually wanted to be able to do. Because being a Warden? Wasn't really on that list. ]
I look forward to meeting you properly once you're on a ship, you remind me a lot of Hiro.
video
[ grinning slightly, just enough to say that he knows what she meant, he's just making a joke. ]
