[ there's something off about winn when the feed turns on. something different from all his other broadcasts. it may take a second to spot it but once you realize what it is it becomes glaringly obvious: there's not a hint of happiness anywhere on his face. his eyes, his lips, his nose, it looks like every last bit of joy has been drained from his features, so even when his lips do stretch lightly upwards, despite his dry eyes it feels more like watching him sob than seeing him smile. ]

Margaery's gone home. [ he has no way of knowing that. she could have been kidnapped to another world, one where she would have no protective big brother to introduce her to superheroes and feminism, to embroider with her and teach her science. but he chooses to hang onto that thought, to believe that she's gone back to the family he knows she so desperately missed despite never letting her pain show. he clears his throat. ] If any of her friends wanna come by for a toast and some stories, I'll be on the Tourist all day.

[ he has been on the tourist since he realized she disappeared, curled up in his bed, shut down. this is the most he's said since, and it feels almost like an outer body experience. he clears his throat again, and nods at the camera before killing the feed. ]

Longer for you, now. [ he hates being so behind her. even if the updated memories aren't real, he still wants to share them with her, to be on the same place. there are so many things that still confuse him (like what happens with james and her attitude towards mon-el) ]

I guess... technically. Maybe? Maybe the memories are there for you, they're just not unlocked.

...I didn't consider that. [ why didn't he consider that? ] It could be we're both from the same time, but they drip feed us our memories...

[takingkarabusiness]

Right. Because it's not like I've massively changed physically. Maybe they're just like... downloading memories.

Okay, that sounds weird.

[winn]

Well, there aren't gonna be massive physical changes in this short a timespan, but if there were I'm sure they could keep up with them if they wanted the augments don't seem to have any problem with that.

[ what with the age and sex "glitches". ]

But yeah I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's happening, you never disappear from here while you're updating your memory base. The source of he memories is what I'm curious about. It could be what you're saying. [ it's actually less creepy than his other theories. and that is definitely the most talking he's done in one go today. ]

You think so? Like the Matrix?

-- kinda, yeah. They're too perfect. No matter what we do, we can't get a single step closer to them. Think of everyone we have here - we're surrounded by geniuses and superheroes and no one can get ahead. It doesn't feel real, but it totally feels like the kind of situation you can guarantee by programming the world.

[takingkarabusiness]

[ she kind of wishes she didn't open this can of worms ]

Maybe that's why people can disappear...

Maybe they get too close, maybe they've run their course - [ he's still not over considering this is some kind of experiment.

and that just makes him all the more afraid of margaery. what happens when you wake up? ]

I like to think they got too close. [ a beat ] She's so smart; if anyone could do it without making a fuss, it's Margaery.

[winn]

I just hope she really is home.

[ if they're doing something to her....he feels the panic swelling in his chest. ]

[ she squeezes his hand ]

She is. She has to be.

[winn]

[ he just takes a breath, trying to keep the panic and the tears at bay. it's killing him to be this helpless. if kitty goes next...there's nothing he could do about it and if she goes back home she'll die and that is not helping the panic one little bit. ]

Maybe they're one step ahead of you and they took her to National City.

Why would they. Besides, she wants to go home. Her never seeing her family and not being able to provide for her people would make miserable.

I know. But it's just as plausible as anything else. They're not really known for their logic.

[winn]

I'll give you that.
