[Kitty's morning on the Tourist did not go as planned. It's another hour or so before she makes this announcement. She doesn't even know what happened to the minutes in between. But she's all business when she looks into the communicator. No hiding behind text.]

Winn Schott is in a coma. [Blunt. Direct. Maybe she should have called a few people individually first like Kara, but she wasn't going to make it through this if she did that.] He always has projects going, so they're going to be late. If something is important let me know and I'll see if it's something I can work on in his place.

I already fed his slug today, but someone on the Tourist should take care of that until lazy wakes up. [The mild insult to cover feelings is so classic Kitty, circa home it may not even fit with what people of the fleet know of her. That Kitty had walls around her walls, but those are gone now.]

He's always checking on ship systems on the Twin Roses since we managed to merge and still not get an engineer out of the deal, so if anyone else can help us out with that in the meantime let me know. I'll also be working on the new dance studio later today if anyone wants to help. [Because this mission is almost complete and she needs another one so she can hold it together. Can't fall apart if she's sanding down floors.]

[She slips the rest of the way inside his room. It was close enough to an invite, right?] What if I say no? What then?

[He really doesn't know if Kitty is the hugging type, so he settles for a brief shoulder squeeze.]

I can check on him. I did the same thing for Kara.

[There's an impulse to phase instead of letting him touch her, but she stops herself. It's hard accepting comfort because it means there's something to comfort her about. And because there's always that fear that if she lets herself feel it, what if it never stops? There's a lot of unresolved pain from the past that she just shoved into a closet and if you open that door more than just the recent problem tumbles out.] Thanks. I would feel better if a doctor looked at him.

Yeah, of course. I can read him some bedtime stories too, if you want.

[The joke falls a little flat, BUT HE'S TRYING.]

[There is a marked lack of laughter.] The goal is to get him to wake up, not stay asleep.

I do voices and sound effects and everything! And I am lucky not to be cursed with a soporific voice!

[But he sobers up, this obviously isn't helping.]

He'll be okay. I'll stop by the Tourist at least twice a day to check on him, alright?

Sure, that sounds good. [Sorry for the negative levels of playful energy here, Ravi. She does appreciate the effort.] I'm sure he'll be fine. It's not the first time this happened to him.

Yeah, he mentioned that. Doesn't make it any easier for you, I'm sure.

...Makes it feel like the odds are less in our favor for him waking up. [Doesn't mean they actually are, but it's how it feels.]

He'll wake up. As far as I understand, there's no reason to think he won't.

Sometimes people disappear after they go into one. [It happened enough times to people she's cared about that it feels like a pattern to her.]

That's not going to happen to Winn. I'm going to have to put up with your soppy ways for a long time yet.

[passingthrough]

You think so? Cuddling in public spaces and nuzzling in the kitchen and saying, "no, you're prettier." [He doesn't like it when she calls him pretty actually.]

Or you could keep that kind of thing out of my work space, thank you.

[But he takes her being able to joke about it as a good sign about her state of mind.]

But then how would we feed each other? [These are the important questions.]

You enjoy being absolutely nauseating on purpose, don't you?

I enjoy being very much in love and proud to be his girlfriend. And if torturing other good people I care about is the price I pay for that, I accept.
