[Kitty's morning on the Tourist did not go as planned. It's another hour or so before she makes this announcement. She doesn't even know what happened to the minutes in between. But she's all business when she looks into the communicator. No hiding behind text.]

Winn Schott is in a coma. [Blunt. Direct. Maybe she should have called a few people individually first like Kara, but she wasn't going to make it through this if she did that.] He always has projects going, so they're going to be late. If something is important let me know and I'll see if it's something I can work on in his place.

I already fed his slug today, but someone on the Tourist should take care of that until lazy wakes up. [The mild insult to cover feelings is so classic Kitty, circa home it may not even fit with what people of the fleet know of her. That Kitty had walls around her walls, but those are gone now.]

He's always checking on ship systems on the Twin Roses since we managed to merge and still not get an engineer out of the deal, so if anyone else can help us out with that in the meantime let me know. I'll also be working on the new dance studio later today if anyone wants to help. [Because this mission is almost complete and she needs another one so she can hold it together. Can't fall apart if she's sanding down floors.]

[There's still an untouched breakfast sitting there complete with smiley face waffle. She bows her head when Kara enters the room feeling entirely unprepared for it even though she knew what she was getting herself into with the call.]

He's non responsive, but in good condition. [She did take some care to shift him back to the center of the bed and smoothed out the sheets around him. He was already wearing pajamas so that worked.]

Thanks, Kirk. And no need for anything right away. He checked on us more than necessary. [Protective of his girlfriend's ship especially after that merge and certainly there a lot.] Castle and I can handle minor stuff. Pilots and maintenance have some overlapping skills with engineering to a point.

And having one person on slug duty seems safest. [So that it isn't everyone feeding him several times a day or everyone assuming someone else did it. She would have done it herself except...she feels so close to breaking down when she sees him like that. She's not sure how much she can visit without falling apart.]

[Robb isn't the most self-reflective guy in the world but he recognizes the way she talks. He would do exactly the same if any of this would happen to someone close to him. He would focus on everything around them instead of the pain being without them.]

[She is so incredibly productive while things are hard because of it! Of course it also means she isn't really dealing with the things she needs to deal with and it only makes that build up into something bigger and worse than it needs to be. At least that's how it's worked in the past. The jury is still out on how successful she'll be at not dealing with her feelings this time especially with so many friends here.]

Kirk volunteered for both, [and since he is a good engineer and is located on the Tourist she'll go with that.] but thanks, Robb. The offers are appreciated.

[No. She's not. And suddenly she wishes she had hid behind text or not made the call at all, because it feels like the simple act of asking is breaking down that false wall she wanted to put between her and feeling this.]

People fall into these all the time. [And sometimes they wake up changed and sometimes they never wake up and one day their name is just off the roster.] There's no reason not to be okay.

I will. There might be a minute or two of keeping him to myself first though. [Maybe a little longer than a minute or two. And to the last part she bows her head because everyone else is winning here. Her facade of staying together basically collapsed at the first "how are you?"]

[It means a lot to her that people care—that they are checking in for her sake too. But it's also hard because she wants to be tough. She wants to power through without feeling the feelings and that's harder to do when people are asking about her or offering support. It's also...probably the best thing for her because the ways she coped in the past were because of extreme conditions that no longer exist in her life. They weren't healthy even if they were necessary at the time. Anders goes at it in more of a round about way so she does too.] What's your kitten's name?

[At some point, Ravi thinks he might hear Kitty in the room next door and knocks on the wall, loud enough so that he knows she'll hear it for sure. He decides to wait and see if she responds rather than barge in on her, uninvited.]

[Kitty spent the day trying to exhaust herself with work on the dance studio and she was largely successful, but she was still sitting in her room alone with her thoughts, unable to sleep without him beside her. But sleeping with an unconscious man is too sad and morbid even for her. She tries to focus on one of the engineering books she got from the ring world to distract herself from herself when she hears the knock.

There's no reply for a moment before she phases just her head through their adjoining wall.] Was that for me?

[Makie isn't really good at giving comfort. Not... on this level, at any rate. She fidgets over her answer for a while-- she has no real idea how to help, but she wants to.

[It's really no surprise to her that Makie would be the one to stay on mission with her even if it isn't her mission. She appreciates it as much as she does the people asking about her directly. It comes from the same place and it's more in her comfort zone for replying.] Reworking the floors to get them even and smooth and putting up some mirrors and bars along the walls. Are you interested?

I noticed this morning when I tried to surprise him with his Fleet anniversary breakfast. You know it's serious if you don't wake up for a waffle, right? [The jokes fall very flat. Too somber.]

Jeyne. Hey. [She tries a smile for the girl, and it twists into something too sad for that and she ducks her head.] I didn't mean to make a big deal out of it. I just know a lot of people count on Winn. [Like she does.]

[They didn't have comas back in Camp, but they had people go inexplicably missing for stretches of time, and it's probably about the same level of nerve-wracking. Felix doesn't ask how she's doing, but the look on his face is faintly concerned anyway.]

I can't do much about engineering, but I can lend a hand in the studio if you still need it.
