[Kitty's morning on the Tourist did not go as planned. It's another hour or so before she makes this announcement. She doesn't even know what happened to the minutes in between. But she's all business when she looks into the communicator. No hiding behind text.]

Winn Schott is in a coma. [Blunt. Direct. Maybe she should have called a few people individually first like Kara, but she wasn't going to make it through this if she did that.] He always has projects going, so they're going to be late. If something is important let me know and I'll see if it's something I can work on in his place.

I already fed his slug today, but someone on the Tourist should take care of that until lazy wakes up. [The mild insult to cover feelings is so classic Kitty, circa home it may not even fit with what people of the fleet know of her. That Kitty had walls around her walls, but those are gone now.]

He's always checking on ship systems on the Twin Roses since we managed to merge and still not get an engineer out of the deal, so if anyone else can help us out with that in the meantime let me know. I'll also be working on the new dance studio later today if anyone wants to help. [Because this mission is almost complete and she needs another one so she can hold it together. Can't fall apart if she's sanding down floors.]

He'd appreciate it. I mean, I appreciate it too. The optimism. He's better at that than me though. He's better at a lot of things. Better half.

I can understand that sentiment. Marian is- [a lot of things, really, he doesn't quite feel like he deserves her...or rather, he's stealing her from a version of himself who does]

She's a much better person than she gives herself credit for. I'm much more of the aftermath after a disaster.

That's...perfect. I think I said once I'm what survived after everything. [Not exactly a whole person, but a partial one that fights twice as hard.] You want some company being that?

[That gets the ghost of a smile. Not many people really get it, and tend to assume that rebuilding a person's self should be easy, not realising that sometimes, it's impossible, and they have to live with whatever pieces they have of themselves left to create...something with.

Not a whole person. But a fighty one. ]

I wouldn't mind that at all.

Good to have company. Kurt always calls me a disaster as it is. [Softer expression. He always says it with love.]

It is important to acknowledge it. But I find the real trick is learning to live with it. Normalcy is rather far outside my reach, but getting somewhere near it would be good enough for me.

Well, it probably means nothing coming from me to the point of almost being a bad thing, but you feel pretty near normal to me.

[Oh, Kitty. He offers a small smile, letting out a huff of amusement.]

I will take that as a compliment, though I assume that just means I have got better at living with my demons than actually acquiring anything like a normal life.

I thought being good at living with demons was normal life. I might be in trouble. [Smiling.]

Hah. Perhaps I am aiming a little too high?

Were you going right for the kids, family pets, and picket fence? Or whatever the equivalent is where you're from?

[He has to laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of it all.]

Oh, Maker no. That one is not me at all.

What are you picturing? What's ideal Fenris?

I...am not sure, in all honesty. I spent so much of my life where an 'ideal' was either non-existent or too hard to strive towards, I never really gave it much thought beyond 'existing'.

[She nods.] I used to only want to survive. Now... I want a future with Winn. [So he really needs to wake up.]

...A fine choice, I am sure you will make one another very happy. Happier.

[He can't let go of the hope that Winn will wake up. He'll just cling to it like a drowning man does flotsam. ]

[She hasn't let go of it. She's just afraid to hold too tightly. Afraid of how much it will break her if he doesn't. But maybe that's inevitable with or without hope.]

We're a good team. There were times before I thought I found someone special and things went...badly. But I'm sure he's the real thing.

[Hers is the wisest option, truly. They both know how easy it is for people to leave. To open up old wounds and new in their leaving- that he next one they may not be able to heal from. ]

I am glad for you. That you found that. Both of us deserve that.

We do. But you can't have Winn. Dibs. [She knows he means Marion. Or at least not Winn. She's not sure how serious his relationship is.]

[That gets a laugh out of him. ]

I shall honour your dibs, for they are most serious indeed.

[She manages a smile back.] I am relieved to hear that.

Thanks for this, Fenris. [The talk. Helping her have some lighter moments when things are feeling dark and heavy.] I should probably get to the dance studio.

[He inclines his head, both as an acceptance of her thanks and a farewell. ]
