[Kitty's morning on the Tourist did not go as planned. It's another hour or so before she makes this announcement. She doesn't even know what happened to the minutes in between. But she's all business when she looks into the communicator. No hiding behind text.]

Winn Schott is in a coma. [Blunt. Direct. Maybe she should have called a few people individually first like Kara, but she wasn't going to make it through this if she did that.] He always has projects going, so they're going to be late. If something is important let me know and I'll see if it's something I can work on in his place.

I already fed his slug today, but someone on the Tourist should take care of that until lazy wakes up. [The mild insult to cover feelings is so classic Kitty, circa home it may not even fit with what people of the fleet know of her. That Kitty had walls around her walls, but those are gone now.]

He's always checking on ship systems on the Twin Roses since we managed to merge and still not get an engineer out of the deal, so if anyone else can help us out with that in the meantime let me know. I'll also be working on the new dance studio later today if anyone wants to help. [Because this mission is almost complete and she needs another one so she can hold it together. Can't fall apart if she's sanding down floors.]

I think even then it would be confusing. [ She shakes her head, frowning. ] We don't have anything but mutants where I'm from. Mutants that are just mutants, mutants that can make other mutants stronger, humans... [ Raven glances back over at Kitty. ] It's interesting, getting to see other people with powers around on the fleet.

There wasn't much of that back home either. Outside of aliens. [I got used to it in the prison though. Even humans who were just...very good at what they do.

I didn't meet any mutant other than Charles until I was almost twenty. After that it was like they were everywhere. [ She does listen, though, and consider. ] I wonder if it was the same for Charles, Hank and Erik.

It must have been harder in your case. I didn't even know I was a mutant until puberity.

I don't remember not knowing. I just know I was on my own until Charles took me in.

I'm glad you found each other. The X-Men were the first mutants I met.

...Other than the ones trying to abduct me.

We might end up finding you. [ Raven grins, finishing off her glass. ] Bring you back to the mansion.

That's a funny thought, isn't it? [She smiles softly.] She's going to be difficult.

I think we have experience with difficult. [ Raven just. Motions to herself. ]

[She smiles.] Well, other me probably won't be Darkholme levels of difficult. [Teasing. Which feels pretty nice considering how upset she was earlier about Winn. And it's not like being worried and upset about him is over, but it doesn't feel like it will be impossible to wait out.]

[ Raven just snorts, making herself a little more comfortable. ]

No one is Darkholme levels of difficult, other than Erik.

[She even laughs at that. Pretty impressive, Raven.] I'll give you that one. He can definitely be difficult. [She's getting along with him again though. Letting the particularly dark and awful past rest in the past.]

[ She's on a roll. ]

He's a pain in the ass, but he's family.

[Nodding.] Yeah. It's hard to give up any of my mutant family. [Even the ones that temporarily served Apocalypse or the ones who aren't really mutants here.]

It just means I have to deal with him. [ She grins, shaking her head. ]

At least he bakes?

That's one reason to keep him around...

Freshly baked bread is really all the reason anyone needs.

...We're getting along again. [Not that it isn't at least a little awkward.]

[ Raven lifts an eyebrow. ]

Is that a bad thing? We've got better things to do here than fight with one another.

I think it's a good thing even if part of me thinks it should be unforgivable.

...I don't actually want to lose any more people. Even to their own actions I guess. And it's not like he stayed with him.

No, he didn't. He came back. [ Raven frowns, turning her head away. ] I understand why he did what he chose, and why he walked that path. I don't know what the Erik you knew was like, but mine... [ Her expression goes a little tight, her fingers clenched. ] He didn't deserve anything they did to him. Not even a little.

He was our leader. He was important to us. [He and Logan were her male role models after she lost her parents. Not that she'd ever call either of them Dad, but there was something parental there whether she admits it or not.]

I never wanted anything bad to happen to him. Any version of him. Bad is kind of the norm at home though.

Bad is normal for all of us. I know some of it was my fault, at least, and I can accept that, but... It doesn't mean it's okay. It doesn't mean I have to like it. [ Raven scoffs. ] All I've done for twenty years is try and make the world better for mutants. To try and fight all that... Bad.

It's kind of funny, isn't it? Your X-Men fighting for mutants. Mine fighting for humans.

But I guess it all comes down to fighting for people and against the bad. Still, I wouldn't mind meeting a mutant from a world where everything is going pretty good one of these days.
