[At some point after getting Nightingale to stop screaming, a proper party is assembled! They've got everything: tanks, mages, DPS, puzzle-solvers! This whole dungeon crawl should be a cinch, right? It's not like any of them have a tendency to attract bad luck or sudden disaster.

[He doesn't answer; rather, he shoves the chest open the rest of the way and reaches in, withdrawing and turning around to reveal what had shocked him so badly- Elucidator, more solid and real than it had ever been in SAO, sheath and all.]

Asuna, this is...

[How?]

Elucidator?! [She really can't believe it either. Her hand drops from her rapier's hilt and she closes the distance in a couple strides. Asuna reaches out to feel for herself...

It's real as her avatar is. Eyes wide, she looks up to meet his.]

I-I mean... my avatar is one thing, but this...

Yeah... seriously, I didn't see this coming at all.

[Really, he should have, considering everything else - but the Nerve Gear had been a true, tangible thing that existed in reality. Elucidator... was it just some kind of model? A replica? It looked so exact, though...

Unable to resist, he steps back to make some room and draws it from its sheath, holding the blade up to get a better look. It's not just the hilt. The gleam of the blade, the colour, hell, even the weight. The only thing that's different about it is the clarity with which to identify it- no matter how advanced SAO's graphics, the pixel count and rendering from back then just couldn't compare with the photo-sharp detail reality offered. Elucidator looks better than it ever did before.

He gives it an experimental swing, and- god, it feels a little bit like home, and as shameful a thought as that is, he can't help the tremendous smile that crosses his lips.]

It's real. It's the real thing, Asuna. This is Elucidator!

[His elation is contagious, and a big smile slowly makes its way on to her face as she sees him going through the motions. Knowing him as she does, Asuna's certain about what's going through his mind-- specs and stats and graphics. She's no stranger to comparing virtual reality and the real world, especially considering how and where they first met. Understanding that she gained through their adventures and their relationship developed into a fascination of her own, so this is as interesting to her as it is to him.

Plus, it's about time he's been dealt a good hand, her aside. And it works for the both of them. There's little that makes her happier than seeing him happy.]

I'm so glad, I really am. [Asuna stays put in case he wants to swing it around a little more.]

[He does indulge a little with another swing or two, but his excitement - contagious and near-overwhelming as it is - isn't so great that he's forgotten her. Satisfied with the legitimacy of the weapon, he sheathes it and tucks it against his arm, using the other to prod her gently towards the chest, eyes alight.]

Come on, you have to check it, now!

[He's definitely more excited about it than he was before.]

Ah, all right. [She takes the prod like a champ, going over and standing in front of the chest to... stare at it. A moment later, she looks back to Kirito, a little sheepish.]

I didn't realize I'd be nervous now.

Ahh, yeah... pressure's on, huh.

[After pulling out Elucidator and seeing the others so excited about what they got, he can't blame her for fretting a bit. He waits quietly, wishing there was something he could-

-oh! There is, actually. He steps closer, reaching out to slip his hand around hers, giving it an encouraging squeeze.]

Buff.

Something must have given him good luck today, and what's his is hers.]

[They haven't done that in so long, it catches her by surprise, snapping her out of her hesitation with a giggle. Her warm smile comes back, and she replies by leaning over and kissing him on the cheek. It really is the small, meaningful things that matter sometimes.

Slowly releasing his hand, she reaches over and opens the chest. It takes two short steps to get to its edge to look inside. When she does, Kirito can hear a soft gasp of wonder, the source of which is revealed soon enough when she carefully draws out a very familiar lightly colored rapier in a red sheath.

Asuna turns back to him, eyes wide as ever as she draws her blade. She performs a slow, careful thrust to get the feel of it again. Once more, and it's like it never left her. All the while, she's looking at him. A hesitant smile coupled with a new, hazy vision from the forming tears, she lets out a shaky laugh.]

Lambent Light...

[He leans in at once, just barely out of range of her technique, eyes wide and just as excited as before as he watches. Lambent Light! It's like it's fate. For her to show up so they, chosen partners, could be together again at last, and now, for them to get back their other partners, the ones that'd kept them alive and fighting for so long... it really is amazing. He takes in the sight of her- of Asuna, moving fluidly as if she'd had it with her all along, hair flowing in the water, the same disbelief in her eyes that he'd felt moments ago. He can't blame her. The last time he'd seen that rapier was when he'd used it to deal the final blow to Healthcliff; it'd been the tool they had used to set themselves and six thousand other people free after so long, but it had been lost along with everything else in that world. That wave of nostalgia hits him a second time, and he revels in it.

As soon as Asuna has her sword in a safe enough position to approach, he closes the distance between them and wraps her up in a hug, arms around her waist to lift her up and spin her around.]

You got it, too! 'Grats!

[He's grinning and acting like an idiot, but see if he gives a shit. He's just so stupid-happy for her right now.]

[She's off her game, as he catches her by surprise again with the lift and twirl. A laugh escapes her, and she brings her arms around his neck, still holding her sword behind him. Clinging to him, Asuna presses her face into his hair with another laugh, giddiness enveloping them both, a reminder of special times between them.]

I did, all thanks to you! [He gets a kiss to the top of his head.]

[Her laughter is contagious, and it only takes him a moment to share it, spinning her a couple more times before setting her back down on solid ground, leaning in to give her a proper kiss on the lips. Apparently he's forgotten, for the moment, that they're not alone.]

I wouldn't have gotten here without you, though.

Jeez... [It's her embarrassed scolding, as he should be well aware. Once her feet are on the floor again, her arms remain around his neck, and she places her forehead against his, speaking quietly so only he can hear her.]

That goes both ways, Kirito-kun. [Asuna's looking at him in a way that so very much resembles the way she did back in their log cabin in the woods during their first stay thee.]

Let's finish up and get out of here, okay?

[Haaaaahhh... yeah, he knows that look. Even if it's enough to know that she's happy about all of this, he's still excited.]

Yeah... sounds good.

[A beat, and then-]

And if we run into any monsters on the way out, we can give them a test drive!

[Asuna pulls her head back and nods emphatically.]

We can see who gets more. Winner decides where we eat tonight.

[The familiar glint of a challenge is present in her eyes when she leans in to give him another quick kiss.]

[I'm sorry did you mention food? A confident smirk crosses his lips, only briefly interrupted by a flush in his cheeks when she kisses him.]

You're on! I need to catch up after last time.

[Her incredible speed and habit of getting critical attacks means she's often better or on par with him at these challenges, but hell if he'll shy away from it.]

I'd love to see you try.

[There may or may not be more meaning in that statement than intended. Who even knows anymore. They sure don't!

Asuna finally lets her arms drop from his shoulders, smiling.]

We can race, too, if you want.

[What's a little friendly competition between lovers? He grins, shifting back a step to fiddle with his equipment, trying to figure out a way to attach a third sword to his two-sword backsheath. It's not like he can carry Elucidator back in his teeth, and throwing it in his inventory would be a damn shame.]

So: add up our wins at the exit, and then race back to the ships?

That sounds good.

[Asuna giggles as she watches him try to figure things out in terms of swords. Taking pity on his, she reaches out and temporarily takes Elucidator from his grasp.]

Why not put the others in your inventory? I plan to do that with mine in a moment.

....Oh geez, I didn't even think of that. You know, when I first showed up here I couldn't even access a menu...

[He'll just go ahead and do that, though. Farewell, cute twin blades, you're on standby for a while. Once that's done he happily equips Elucidator.]
