Captain's Log 08 - A Tristise on Adventuring

Since there seem to be a lot of us exploring these temples and every single one of them comes with at least some level of trap/puzzle, I thought it might be a good idea to share some of the ones I've come across. While no puzzle is exactly the same as any other puzzle in any temple I've come across, some of the basic ideas behind them are similar - which is half the battle with these things, it seems.

At any rate, I hope this proves helpful to everyone and will help keep everyone out of tight situations. If you have any questions contact me, and if you want to make additions from your own experiences and upload please do so.

_{[ The file itself is a rather detailed text log of every trap he can accurately remember coming across in the numerous temples he has been in. What, he's been busy, okay? It includes everything from the giant eel guarding a key he came across with Isabella, to sliding walls, sliding statues, puzzle pieces, making objects light up in certain orders. <sub>[ Kirk has gone to explore another temple he's come across, and much to his chagrin the second puzzle has begun to stymie him. He floated in the center of the room, arms crossed as he glared at the door in front of him, which had several glowing shapes, of which only four of five were lit. He was missing something, some critical switch or piece and he just couldn't figure out where he was erring.

But he was making the critical mistake when it came to puzzles in a water temple. There was always something out to get out, in one way or another. In this case, it was a bit of the ceiling, coming loose after years of neglect. Accident, this time, rather malicious intent. But it's coming down anyways, and Kirk doesn't see it. ]

[ ooc: Feel free to rescue him, or to start in another chamber of the temple. The above was just an option for starting ]</sub>

_{[ He doesn't let go, out of an instinct to protect perhaps, or because his brain was still catching up after getting knocked back so hard. Main systems back online, still working on the secondary. ]}

I dare say that's an understatement.

_{[ He gave Fenris a pat on the back. ]}

Thanks for the save. You're okay?

[Fenris doesn't seem overly bothered by that. He lets out a slow breath. ]

I am fine. Are you?

_{[ He nodded, slumping back and finally catching his breath as he considered the room they were in. ]}

Yeah, I'm fine. Bruised, but that's a fine trade for avoiding a maiming.

_{[ He sucked his lip as his eyebrows puckered. ]}

I hope that didn't mess up the puzzle and we can still solve it.

[Fenris takes a moment, before moving to get up, turning his head to look at the puzzle. ]

...I think it survived.

_{[ Kirk let him go and pushed up, swimming towards the collapsed part of the ceiling, wanting to get a better overhead view of the space, see what it was he was missing to make the final pieces click. ]}

Do you see any new pieces? That collapse might have dislodged some.

[Fenris swims around the perimeter- clearly more interested in making sure everything was stable first. He'd rather they not nearly die again.]

I am unsure. Hopefully it didn't make the thing unsolvable.

I hope not. We worked hard just to get where we are.

_{[ He frowns, scanning the area again and makes a sound, noticing an odd shadow on the wall accompanied by a crack. He swims over, considering it, pushing on brick that looks to be slightly raised from the rest of the wall and gave a cry of victory as a small portion of the wall slid down, revealing the last jewel. ]}

Got it!

_{[ He pushed off to place the jewel in the slot and let out another laugh of delight as the wall glowed and slowly rolled out of the way to reveal a long hall that angled slightly upwards. ]}

Ready to go, Fenris?

[Fenris is happy to leave the solving parts to Kirk. He knows that's not where his strengths lie, he's here to be the muscle, and he's quite content with that.

He swims over, a smile on his face.]

Impressive. And yes, I am ready.

_{[ Kirk beamed back. ]}

Perfect. We have a ways to go, but this seemed like one of the smaller temples at least. I don't think there should be more than four or so rooms.

_{[ He laughed a bit as they went down the now open corridor. ]}

It does mean that the difficulty of these goes up quite a bit quicker though.

I'll leave you to those. I'm here for the heavy lifting and apparently occasionally stopping you from being crushed by falling debris.

[He seems amused at least.]

That is quite helpful, yes.

_{[ He twisted in the water playfully to look at Fenris almost upside down, fluffy hair floating around him. ]}

I have to admit I like watching you do the heavy lifting too, so it's an added bonus.

[The elf lets out a rumbling laugh at that. ]

Well, so long as I get well compensated for it, I suppose I can live with the ogling.

Oh, don't worry, I'll make sure you a very well rewarded for your efforts.

_{[ The words are purred and he winked for good effect before twisting back around and pushing on to the next room... which appeared to have one door and a large square cut into the floor with many other squares inside of it. From the looks of them they had colors and lines that when aligned would make a picture. ]}

Oh, a slider puzzle. Just a damn big one.

So long as you remember that.

[His tone is somewhat teasing, at least.

He looks down at the puzzle, frowning. ]

Like a children's game. I saw them in Exsilium. Nothing this size, though.

I'm going to need your help in sliding them. I'll keep high to watch the imagery, and you push where I tell you. Is that okay?

_{[ He pushed off and went to float high as he said he would, trying to see what sort of image it would make, moving the slats in his head. ]}

That works for me. Heavy lifting, and all.

[At least he sounds amused as he swims to the puzzle, waiting patiently. ]

_{[ Kirk called out instructions, waiting patiently for Fenris to move each piece, sometimes adjusting his orders as he went. The image was more complex than he had thought, and the lines weren't matching quite how he thought they should, but different cultures and all. Eventually, though, he had Fenris slide the last one home and grinned as a blue ring lit up around the puzzle and then flowed towards the door, setting a gem in the center alight. Slowly the doors slid open, Kirk pushing down to clap Fenris on the shoulder. ]}

Good job. Let's hope this is the last one then, eh?

[Fenris exhales softly, glad for the workout, in all honesty. Before nodding, heading towards the tunnel. ]

We can but hope. It would be awful to be trapped in here forever.

Oh, we can just head back the way we come. The doors don't close behind - not usually. We just can't advance. Which means an ancient temple beat us, and I can't have that sort of reputation clinging to me.

[wolfuncaged]

Well. I would hate to have to do anything to so solidly damage your reputation. So we had best continue.

Your concern is quite touching.

_{[ He laughed and made his way into what he hoped was the final room. He blinked when he saw it, because this was one he had not been expecting. There were a series of tall walls ahead of them, from both the ceiling and the floor. And from the disturbances in the water, he was going to guess that there were water currents somehow being circulated. So.... a maze? A maze, with currents pushing you a certain way. Another logic puzzle, but more physical this time. He sucked his lip. ]}

Right, this one isn't going to be as easy as I thought.

[wolfuncaged]

[Fenris frowns at the puzzle before them. ]

...We had best be careful. We do not know how strong those currents are.

_{[ Kirk looked around and back down the path they came through. ]}

Let's fine some pebbles or something. We can throw them into the currents and figure out which way they flow and how quickly.

[wolfuncaged]

That would be wiser than us throwing ourselves down there and potentially breaking our necks.

[He's all for avoiding breaking their necks. ]

_{[ So is Kirk. He's not sure the extend of the miracle his blood can pull off now but he would rather not test it. He looked around them and went to the floor, picking at stones until he had a few rocks in his hands. He handed a few to Fenris to hold and tossed the first one out into the current. ]}

Well, it looks like it's not strong enough to outright crush us, but if we're not careful we'll get bruised.
