Maybe. Kinda wish they would. He can't really... suffer, the way we can, so he wouldn't be put through a whole lot here, I don't think. He'd definitely make me feel better.

My dad. I'd really like to see my dad.

[ Excuse her while she steels herself a little bit to talk about this. Unlike with Asuma, his death was more recent, and it still stings a little, even now. ]

At home, we were in the middle of a war. A really big one. The last thing I can remember is him telling me that he was proud of me, and saying goodbye.

[ She looks up with a small, sad smile ]

There were a lot of things I didn't have the time to say.

[he's just... kind of staring, now, having just pulled the tool away from the lighter. he knows that tone of voice, and how hard that last bit is. he'd never call himself an expert, but if he had known that tadashi's last moments were that, he would have said a lot more than "thanks for not giving up on me".

[that's why he's gotten into the habit of openly telling him he loves him, now.

[hiro doesn't really know what he can say in response, but he flicks the lighter on and it works, so he uses it as an excuse to go sit right next to her and hold the lighter up between them for her to take with that "i get it" smile.]

[ She takes it, with an appreciative look. She knows he gets it, and that's why she decided to talk about it at all. ]

[ She flicks it on and off out of habit, before nudging him back -- this time, with a bigger smile. She's okay, promise! ]

Or, my teammates. I think you would get along with them.

What are they like?

They're both friends of mine since -- well, forever. Our families have been tied together for generations, actually. [ She reaches up to point to the earring in her ear ] Traditionally, once the three of us come of age, we wear our parent's earrings to show that we're now the official heirs of our clans.

[ Anyways. ]

Shikamaru is incredibly smart, not unlike you. [ She nudges him again with a half-grin ] He's our tactician, I guess you could say. But good luck getting him to do anything once he's off the clock. I swear, he could probably nap for 24 hours straight if nobody nagged him to get up.

And -- Chouji is the sweetest, kindest person you'll ever meet. I don't think there's a single person in the village he's met who didn't like him. Oh, and he loves food, he's always eating something. I don't know how many times I've caught him asleep with some half-eaten chips in his mouth, or something.

[that mental image gets him laughing, just a little bit.]

They sound like the perfect pair to offset you.

That's the idea. Teams get picked to be the perfect balance. And our specialties end up working well together, so our combo moves are deadly.

What kind of people do you think I'd have ended up with?

[ Hmm ... she has to think about it for a moment ]

It's hard to say. We already knew by the time we went to school what we would be good at, since a lot of my more powerful skills are -- well, famous, in a way, thanks to my family's use of them. So my teachers already had a good idea of what I'd bring to the team ...

I can see you being a battle plan kind of guy, though. So they'd probably put you with someone whose specialty is brute force, like Chouji, and someone whose specialty is defense and reconnaissance, like me.

... Huh.

[He's thinking over his team back home, and yeah, that's... pretty much it.]

I wonder what it would have been like to grow up in your world...

Probably not very fun. Our village has been destroyed or invaded about four times in the seventeen years I was there.

... Thaaaat's a lot of danger. No wonder you're so strong.

[ There have been a lot of times where she probably would have been killed, had it not been for someone else ]

Like I said, -- I'm not really on the offensive, most of the time. I learned those skills later, but -- they're not what I'm best at. For the most part I've been out of the line of fire thanks to how my family's powers work.

How do those work, anyway?
