[She's probably going to be at least a weekly sight, actually. Misty is Makie's best friend here, and now that she's moved ships, well. She's eternally polite and will always request permission to board first, and she comes with her shamisen in hand for further lessons.]

[As always, Misty greets Makie with exuberant affection as soon as she comes on board. After hugging her friend, she tugs gently on her free hand.]

Makie! I got something to show you!

[O-oh, that's surprising-- but it's Misty, so she lets herself be tugged along.]

You know those kelp tanks Vision built on the Windrose? I made one here!

[She drags Makie towards a small tank in the corner of the cargo bay. It's... pitiful compared to Vision's operation, to be frank, but it's a start!]

[It's still far more than Makie is capable of. She's frankly surprised.]

...that's amazing. How difficult was it to replicate?

Well... the tank itself I got from the Cok'al. They know all about this kind of stuff and [She taps the back of her head, where the implant is] the augment helps me understand a little better too. Not as good as Kitty might, but still something. Mainly it was just figuring out how to transplant the kelp successfully.

You've done an excellent job. [She has no idea who the Cok'al are, but given she refuses to be outside if she doesn't have to be, Makie assumes they're the residents of this bizarre place.] I'm glad you were able to do it.

Have you... been outside much, then?

[Misty's expression falls somewhat.]

Yeah - there's so much sickness, I have to help them however I can.

[She looks concerned-- which is mostly that she's concerned Misty might get sick herself-- but she hadn't heard this.]

Yeah there's some kinda poison in the water. You remember that moon we went to, the one that was all dark and dead?

I do. [Makie frowns.] It's the same here, then. Is it caused by the same...thing?

[She barely understood the issue the first time.]

There's some sort of Darkness down in the Deeps... think it might be the same.

...are you going anywhere near this Darkness?

[When he gets the request for permission, Stefan almost thinks she's kidding. No one's done that before. Heck, he doesn't even think he's asked before he beams himself onto the Huntress . . . ]

Oh, um, sure. [He can't quite hide his surprise. Is she another vampire?] Thanks for asking, but I promise. You don't usually have to ask.

I appreciate that, sir. But I thought at least the first visit I should be courteous. Thank you.

No, I should be thanking you for the courtesy. [He feels like he should bow or something. Just in case she is a vampire, he adds:] Come on in. I'm sure Misty's been expecting you.

Thank you. [Being so deathly pale probably doesn't help her possibly-a-vampire case, but she steps on in delicately, giving him a polite bow of greeting.]

I am Otono-Tachibana Makie. [Sure, she probably gave her name when asking permission, but now she's just going through polite ritual. It's okay, she thaws after a while.] It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain Stefan. How has Misty been?

Likewise, Ms. Makie. [He returns that bow, with far more grace and ease than one might expect. Might as well complete that ritual with her, right?] Misty's been settling in well. Better than I expected, honestly.

[His cheeks flush a little at the thought - he was worried about how she'd co-mingle with his crew, but he's been fretting over absolutely nothing.]

However, that comment is concerning--] Did you expect there to be trouble?

[There's no accusation. Just concern.]

[He can understand that concern, so he respectfully goes for the truth – ]

A little. Not in the sense of fighting or anything, but there's always a worry when you get a new crewmate. How're they going to settle in? What sorts of things do they prefer doing? What can I do to make their time here easier? That sort of thing.

Ah. [That's quite reassuring, actually.] You are a captain who is a strong believer in hospitality also. It's a good combination.

Thank you. [His expression softens,] None of us chose to be here, but we can choose how we treat each other. That's... really all it is.

It's a good way to live. I only wish more people thought the same, though... it seems many on the Fleet are very kind.

Well, we're all stuck in close, tight quarters. Even your most depraved idiot wouldn't try and anger the guy he has to see day in, day out.

In my experience, that sort of antagonism is displayed less by the depraved and more by the very stupid.
