Captain's Log 09 - Rumor Has It

_{[ Kirk appears on the screen, wearing his customary black t-shirt. He's a simple man at heart, really. If you look behind him, one can see a number of boxes, all seemingly overflowing with similar black shirts. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happened. A sponsor drop.

He's twirling some bits of paper in front of him, a look somewhere between bemused and annoyed on his face. ]}

So I suppose I should thank someone for all the new shirts that just came in. I assume they are to make up for these that I have heard going around. I have to say, some of these are quite inventive, so props to whomever came up with them.

Let's read my favorites, shall we?

One - Kirk likes to twirl in his captain's chair when no one is looking.

Two - Kirk rips his shirts on purpose.

Three - Kirk and Leonard McCoy are in a romantic relationship together.

Four - Kirk is secretly a zombie.

Five - Kirk is actually a virgin.

There is quite a lot to unpack in those, which I assume come from the "viewers". Two of which have me saying - really? Do you know me at all? But I applaud your imaginations, truly.

_{[ He pushes away from his position of leaning on his desk - at which point his black shirt rips right across the chest. He looks down and sighs, giving his head that little shake of the exasperated when something has happened one to many times in a day. He looks up at the camera and points with his little stubs of paper. ]}

Contrary to belief, that was not on purpose. And whoever dropped these - F for quality.

_{[ And he turns off the video to go change. Sorry guys, no show today. ]}

_{[ Over the course of the next week or so, it is highly likely one will run into Kirk on either the Tourist or the Iskaulit in some variable form of undress - bet it with an intact shirt, a ripped shirt, or changing into a new one he carried with him at all times. If you have never seen his tattoos before, now's your chance.

Also, for the Tourist, don't mind the ripped up shirts that are beginning to appear in every trash receptacle, and even forming a modest pile just outside his door in one of the emptied boxes. He really has nowhere else to put them. ]}

[Tyrion is managing, and brilliantly, he might add, when he looks up and sees Kirk walk in. Without a shirt, no less. One corner of his mouth quirks up. Yes, he's seen the video and yes, he knows they are probably being recorded now. So what's one new rumor to toss on the pile?]

You know, we have a strict shirt policy in here. [His gaze is mocking, and his smile wicked.] But for you, we'll make an exception. Nice tattoo.

_{[ He has another one in his pocket somewhere - they're terribly thin,
so folding them up isn't to much of an issue, like a handkerchief. He would
like this next one to last more than five minutes, so for the moment he's
going bare chested. ]}

Oh, is that what it finally took to turn your gaze, Tyrion?

_{[ He grinned back, all to happy to play this game. ]}

Scotch on the rocks, please.

I could believe the chair twirling, in all honesty.

[He's probably in his room, but he's not getting up. ]

Perhaps you shouldn't wear the shirts given to you under dubious pretences.

I'm amazed you haven't set them all on fire. [His voice comes from the ceiling where Kurt is perched, watching Kirk struggle with yet another ripped shirt. And if it weren't apparent that he'd seen the broadcast:] Looking good for a dead man.

There he is, everyone sshhhh.

[ Summer had arranged a betting pool with Fenris and whoever else wanted in, on when Kirk's shirt would rip first. The variables were rather elaborate, based on time, actions taken, states of inebriation. ]

Well if it isn't Captain Arse-stick. You'll have to grab a stool if you want to drink.

[ All the unoccupied seats were up on the tables. ]

I can understand why you'd want to avoid sex if you're a zombie. As long as Dr. McCoy understands I'm sure it will all work out. You should probably stop taunting him with all that shirt tearing though. And feel confident in your chair spinning. Who doesn't like to twirl?

Kindling. Bandages. Rags.

[Just a few alternatives she can find for those shirts. Give her some time, she'll probably come up with some more.]

_{[ He can see the background, he knows where you are. Honestly, he doesn't expect to see you elsewhere. He can think of three other places you MIGHT be, and it's not a time of day for that. ]}

It's quite dignified, actually. And the chair is comfortable.

_{[ He sighed. ]}

I don't have a lot of choice. I can't find my original ones - they all look the same! So I just keep putting them on and hoping for the best.

_{[ Oh, goodness Kurt, you will frighten a person to death like that! He looked up and rolled his eyes at the other, just tearing the fabric off him and dumping it in a box clearly designated for shirts now of no use to him. ]}

Well, I could do that, but then I'd have nothing to wear until we get to the next station.

_{[ He glanced back to Kurt again and smirked. ]}

Or is that your reason behind the suggestion?

_{{ Of course she would. He would expect no less, and frankly he is rather proud to have inspired such a thing. ]}

Aw, that's the sweetest nickname you've had for me yet. I might start to think you're flirting with me.

_{[ He slid into a seat against the bar, shirt for the moment intact. ]}

Whiskey, please.

Zombies deserve love as much as anyone else. Vampires get to have sex, so so do us zombies. Don't be prejudice.

_{[ He shakes his finger at her, playing it up even though if you thought about it, well, it wasn't entirely wrong... ]}

It's quite a liberating thing. Good for victories and fanfares.

Would you like them? I can't swear to their sterilization as far as bandages, but the rest they'll probably do fine.

_{[ Please take them, Furiosa. Please. ]}

Yeah, I'll take a box.

[Honestly she's more likely to use them as rags.]

Quite a few of those could make things rather awkward.

[ It sounds to Kai like he's been given permission to tease Kirk a little. ]

Hah - enlighten me as to which. I'll confirm or soothe your fears accordingly.

_{[ He takes it like a pro, really. One might think he was used to these
kind of shenanigans. ]}

[ Kai is going to tick them off on his fingers as he goes. ]

Zombie. Sounds awkward and I'm not sure I want you eating my brain. Virgin. I'd have to wonder how exactly you're defining that. McCoy. If you're in a romantic relationship with my captain then I should probably be nicer to you.

[ Because it's Kai's niceness that would make that awkward or not. Hah. He's not really worried, because that seems like the kind of thing that would have come up before now.]

_{[ He ticks off his fingers in turn. ]}

One - that's just ignorance talking, not all zombies eat brain. The brain has almost no nutritional value anyways.

Two - Not in the way most think, as you well know.

_{[ He grinned and winked at Kai. ]}

Three - I would think you'd be nicer to me anyways since I'm your captain's captain.

Dignified is not the word I would generally use for it.

I suppose if you were desperate, you could wear the hideous jumpsuit.

You clearly haven't done enough chair twirling in your life, Fenris.

No one is quite that desperate. Or do my shirts tearing offend you so?

_{[ He's smirking at him as he says it, his eyebrows raised up and
something like a smug look settling on his face. ]}

One - Then what makes one a zombie?

[ Two is a matter settled satisfactorily enough. ]

Three - But as my captain's captain I feel an obligation to make sure you don't start getting a big head.

I'll...pass, if it's all the same.

[He rolls his eyes, giving soft 'ugh' in response. ]

No, but there are clogging up all the waste bins.

I've begun putting them in boxes at least. I suppose we could jettison them, if need be. Unless someone has a more creative idea on what to do with torn up shirts.

Maybe we could make them into tiny flags and start some sort of flag sports teams.

... Which suddenly makes me wonder if the individual ships have personal marks. Do they?

[Tyrion laughs, a nice deep one, before he pats the bar space right in front of him.]

Naturally. I'm a man who likes to see what he's buying.

[A scotch is fetched from the counter underneath, with ice added that looks like - well - little apples - and poured in a glass.]

Hey, I don't know the ins and outs of zombie love. No offense intended.

At least they didn't reveal to everyone that you're actually ten cats pretending to be a person. It was awkward when that secret came out.
